The problem concerning the current education achievement gap is the disparity between rich and poor because the rich have more money and time to spend money on their children education while low income parents might not have the money to spend on their children education. Evidence from the text states that “wealthy parents invest more time and money than ever before in their children (in weekend sports, ballet, music lsso s, math tutors, and in overall involvement in their children’s schools), while lower- income families, which are now more likely than ever to be headed by a single parent, are increasingly stretched for time and resources” the most logical conclusion we can draw from this evidence is that parents with a lower income dont have the same opportunity as parents with a high income to put their children in different clubs, sports and overall involvement in their children school. For instance Benedict Carey states “a bad experience early in school can have lasting effects, and that if we can do something in that crucial window, it could alter the student’s trajectory slightly and change the arc of thur experience over time”. This shows that early childhood intervention is essential to the future success of a child. This means that although it is not usually seen as the school’s responsibility to support with emotional needs, they need to do so if they want the student to have a fair chance throughout their education. Schools should give time to devote to activities that build self-esteem and confidence because that is the only way that a student’s potential can be maximized. Students who feel better about themselves, tend to have a more positive attitude about school.
