Europe, a wonderful continent was changed by three things, those three things had some good and some bad affects. Those three things where; humanism, the printing press, and the renaissance art. It changed Europe significantly. Several key events helped bring an end to feudalism and the Middle Ages but these were the main three.
First humanism occurred. Humanism; the study of classical texts and ideas led to a movement. This happened in the 1200’s, because people once again wanted to gain knowledge, also due to the fact that war and political instability had disrupted society. Humanism stressed many subjects but mostly classical subjects as history and literature. The whole purpose of humanism was to create well-rounded individuals and to encourage people to achieve all they could in life. The effect of the stressing of the importance of the individuals caused medieval thinking. Medieval thinking placed kings and churches above everything else, they also stressed the importance of leading a Christian life but challenged people to think for themselves. During the late 1400’s a German named Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press. The printing press was a fast working machine that pressed paper against a full tray of ink that was movable to type. The ending results was an exact replica of the page. The printing press made a huge impact on European society for many reasons. They use to hand write copies of books and that took a couple of months to do, now they can produce as many books as they like. Now because they have so many books it encouraged many people to learn how to read, and it also helped spread Renaissance faster. Overall it encouraged many authors to write in the vernacular (their native language.)
