Electronic voting machines can be seen as an improvement to many Americans, such as those with disabilities and citizens with a first language other than English. However there are downsides to the new approach that outweigh the benefits of the new voting system coming in to place.
In the passage, 'Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea', there are numerous reasons stated advocating against the use of EVMs. In paragraph one it is said, "According to at least one study, poll workers are often poorly trained on how to use EVMs. Sometimes the workers don't even know how to turn the machines on!" In 'Everyone Should Be Able to Vote' it mentions that one of the main draws to using EVMs is that the disabled and those who need a ballot in a language other than English would find it easier to use. The inexperience of poll workers would simply cause more confusion to the voters with special requests. EVMs would also cause problems for citizens who have limited knowledge on how to use computers. It is cited in paragraph 3 of "Electronic voting Is a Bad Idea', "In a 2004 national survey, researchers from the California Insititute

Stated in 'Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea', "Ohio spent $115 million on EVM upgrades in 2014. Cash-strapped states can't afford this upkeep, so they end up with aging machines that don't work correctly." Machines that are not functioning properly can lead to errors such as the one that took place in Virginia in 2014 where dozens of voters reported that the machines had incorrectly recorded their votes. As well as technical errors, there is the possibility for malicious activity. Again from 'Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea', the author explains, "Like all computers, EVMs can be hacked." It doesn't require a genius to tamper with the machines. In 2007, "It was found that malicious software can transfer EVM votes for one candidate to another without the voter noticing." That is an alarming thing to think
Voting has not always been as easy as it is today. It is interesting to examine how far America has progressed in its process of allowing different types of people to be able to vote. Voting was once aimed at a particular group of people, which were white males that owned their own property. Today, most people over the age of eighteen can vote, except for the mentally incompetent or people who have been convicted of major felonies in some states. The decline of voter participation has always been a debate in the public arena. According to McDonald and Popkin, it is “the most important, most familiar, most analyzed, and most conjectured trend in recent American political history (2001, 963)” The question is, how important is voter

As technology has evolved there have become more ways to cast a vote than ever before. Most people are familiar with the traditional way of
According to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the system isolates election problems like illegally extending voting hours or irregular voter turnouts. But to act as if we cant reform the voting poll place policies to prevent lines from outide poll places and from illegally extending voting hours is just lazy and unresponsive to issue that have repeatedly had a negative impact on the United States for some time now. The Electoral college also keeps us from avoiding a recount, a recount can easily increse the odds of fraud. With the ammount of voters in the United States a recount would be a utter mess. It also provides a canidate focus in the election which makes campaign organization a much more achievable thing rather then a way to for canidates to strategize how they go about going out on the campaign trail. Dates and amounts of time spent in certain states are typically planned and are in place for months prior to when most canidates declare they are even running. The last issue, would of course be giving smaller states a voice. Without the electoral college these states would be completely forgot about. All of these issues hold true in that they preserve the fairness of the election process, but what they don't do is provide a comparacent on if the solotions of the process outweigh
In the Unite States of America i belive that it would not be asmart idea to use electronic voting machines beacause it would be unfair they would not be counting all the votes correctly. Also they can rig the election like the problems they had in ohio as they wasted that amout of money. It would not be a good idea to use electronic voting machines because the machines may also not count the votes correctly or place the vote uner another canidate. Also there has been alot of errors with the electronic voting machines, like they've also been hacked plenty of times witch causes the election to get ruined. There is also two sides to everything like the electonic voting machines also did alot of good work and made it easier to vote for the people
Technology has helped us in a lot of ways including when we vote. This is not without glitches though. In the 2000 presidential election, the voting machines were bought even
For several decades, the American people are skeptical if their votes count due to various voting method. The election process is divided with dissatisfaction and inaccuracy in governmental elections. Set from the voters addressing how they vote, it still means a lot to them because it is what gets the people voice heard. There are voters that are uncertain of trusting the candidates that will make their laws and regulations, however many voters are still incline they have the power to vote them out from office. But when different types of voting equipment’s have their own problems it becomes prevalent to voters. There are ways of voting that would sometimes fail and the discovery of fraud in the voting process can make people question the American election. The rights and privilege to vote is what many Americans believe is the most essential part of being a democracy nation and an American. By keeping the American citizen trust the voting operation system must work properly and establish that the people’s votes are counted for. The American election administration is facing the new generation of technology that is designed for the usage of voting. The management of hardware and software can be a great challenge for many upcoming election throughout the years ahead. Today, there are several methods of voting equipment’s that are used for the election system. They’re
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
Many people argue over whether or not people should use EVMs or paper ballots. This is a very serious argument. The reason being that this is how we make important decsisions as a community that directly influences the goverment and controls most of our daily lives. People argue over the safety of voting and how it can be swayed, however this is why EVMs should be used more.
I believe that Electronnic Voting Machines would be extremely useful to todays society of people, especially in the United States. As the top article has stated, there is 33.7 million people of vating age with disabilities who are unable to get to the voting stands without major difficulty, that's 20 percent less likely to vote, which causes a major difference in the actual amount of people who believe in one topic over another. There is also the concept of having a machine that can change languages per user, so if we were to have a card that had our information on it and our first language than we could also help with the minority that don't know how to speak in English. Though there are plenty of arguments about EVMs being able to get hacked
Studies show,in 2003 voters used the EVMs to vote. 97% of voters had no problem using this new method of voting, three years later, Utah used the machines and almost had the same results. The EVMs are easier for people with specific disabilities, the machines have audio and voice systems just incase someone
EMV'S would be very useful for handicaped people, or people that prefer to use electronicle devices to vote. Therefor by using bolth it will more than likely keep everyone happy aswell as increasing the vote percentage. This way would also make it easier to fix uncorrect votes for there will be less people in that section to have to worry about making things much simpler. Then you also have the factor of people who dont normally use electronicle devices (mostly older generations) that will refuse the service of them ultimately
As a reader of this passage i believe that Electronic voting machine should be used. The reason why i believe that electronic voting machines should be used is because they help with peolple being able to vote easily just within different ages ,physical ability and disabilities as well. In the pasage i read it also says that without EVMs many voters who arent able to to read or understand English well have to ask for help. Which makes privacy very impossible . IS it trouble to use ? If you ask me in the passage it says 97% say its no trouble to use.Meaning only 3% thinks it is but 97% is still a high portain to think its easy to use.I personally think its a good thing to use with the facts an evidence they gave me this passage that i had looked

Electronic voting in polling stations is in place of the world’s largest E-Democracies, and I-voting is used in some, initially small and E-Historically conflict-free, countries. Many countries were currently considering Introducing E-Voting systems with the goal of improving various aspects of the Electoral process. E-voting is often seen as a tool for advance democracy, building faith in electoral management, adding credibility to election results and increasing the exhaustive efficiency of the electoral process. The technology is evolving fast and election managers, observers, IO (international organizations), vendors and standardization bodies are consecutively updating their methodologies and approaches. The main reason why E-Voting have gained such success in these country is just because of convenience in this voting system as comparison to other traditional voting system. To increasing participation of more and more people in the polls we required Hi-Tech. voting techniques which will enhance and strength this democracy process. E-Voting technology can speed the counting of ballots & can extend improved the advantage for incapacitate(disable) voters The one most important benefit using E-voting is that it will increase overall turnout because the voters can vote from any place either he/she is in the state or out of the state. ‘Kenya’ is a country who has already implemented the E-voting system and gained very much
