2. The background and foundation of the study is based off of several research studies on classroom environments in Kindergarten Classroom. The approach was adopted by NICHD SECC in kindergarten and preschool programs. The research discovered the high correlation between teacher interactions, classroom environment, and student achievement. The research was the basis for this particular research. 3. The purpose of the study is providing information that could be useful for training initiatives and the federal and state policy to improve classroom quality. 4. In the study, 827 first-grade classrooms in 747 schools. The classrooms were chosen from 32 states. 5. The procedures to collect data were through observation. Researchers observed …show more content…
The procedures to analyze data: Codes were attached to the time sampling to show measures of the setting and activities. The activities were broken down into specific groups including structured individual activity, other classroom learning, unstructured classroom activity, and activities by subject area. All of the data was put into a table to represent the activity/subjects and the number of intervals/percentage of intervals. 7. The conclusion of the research: The study found a lot of variations in the observation due to the various teaching styles and the various styles in instructional features. Most of observations include teacher-led instruction and a lack of feedback to the students. Even though there was a lot of interaction between student and teachers being engaged in instruction, the kind of interactions may not be enough to produce higher achievement. The data did show the smaller class sizes had high academic achievement. The result could be due to the interactions between teacher and students. 8. Implications for practice: In my classroom, I have a cap of 8 students. I need to make sure my interactions with the students are meaningful and provide feedback for the student to improve academically. If students are provided the proper feedback and interaction, then the students will be more likely to have higher
Research has provided many strategies for effective classroom instruction and lesson organization. Throughout my lesson, I used direct/ explicit instruction model that I have learned from different education courses and readings to serve as a model for my instruction. Rosenshine
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students, approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
I observed a sixth grade classroom (eleven to twelve years of age) at a middle school in Ringgold, Georgia. The classroom seemed to be fairly even in regards to how many children of each sex were in the classroom. The majority of the students were white with a few african american and hispanic children among the mix. The sixth grade classes did not have enough employees to only teach one subject therefore, the teacher that I observed taught language arts and mathematics. The first thing you notice when you walk into the classroom is the mathematical shapes all along the upper wall like a wallpaper border. These shapes were projects from her students in the years before. The next thing that you’ll notice is the way the desks were set up. They were set up in three separate groups. One group of around twelve desks faced the
Another major issue that is addressed in the article is with the teachers and their teaching styles. The method in which most teachers teach their
I am currently teaching second grade in an urban charter school in Cleveland, Ohio. My classroom has twenty-three students, twelve boys and eleven girls. There is one student in my classroom who receives special education services and four students receiving Title 1 interventions. My students are extremely social which leads to the use of small group and partner learning. The socialization has lead to some struggles with behavior and student independence this year.
Overall, the theories, methods and strategies learned throughout this program have allowed me to be a better teacher in the sense that I don’t look at the whole picture anymore. I pick apart each piece of puzzle to see how I can better each student as an individual. This will let my students to become investors in their education, as well as allow me to become a better teacher.
Education theory can either be descriptive like the sciences or normative like in philosophy. Education theory postulates what education processes are supposed to consist of; it sets the standards, norms, and goals in carrying out an education process. The scientific education theory gives a set of hypotheses, which have to be experimented and verified. The two approaches have produced two broad categories of education theories, which are the functionalist’s theory of education
The data will be collected during baseline phases (A1 and A2) and the intervention phases (B and C). The PI or the research team member will record (video and audio) the participants for fifteen minutes during a classroom group instruction/ activity. These videos will be analyzed and the data will be recorded using the data collection form (Appendix D). Precautions would be taken to keep participants blind to the purpose of the recording sessions. The recording will be conducted using the PI’s video recording devices. A recording station with a camera tripod will be set up in each classroom to minimize disruptions during classroom activities.
The primary purpose of this instrument is to collect data on school-wide teacher instruction. The hope is that this data will be analyzed in multiple forms: weekly to drive the instructional conversation, monthly, to recognize an immediate need for professional development at the district level, and ultimately, to analyze the data to identify differentiated professional development needs for next school year. Training will
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 1/6/2016. I arrived at the operation which is located at 3422 Richmond Rd, Texarkana about 12:57 pm. I was greeted by Comekia Island, the person in charge while director was at lunch. I handed her business card and then explained the purpose of my inspection and reviewed the subchapters I would be observing. Roshonda Epps the director arrived approximately a hour later. When Epps arrived I handed her business card and then explained the purpose of my inspection and reviewed the subchapters I would be observing.
Others students that might be included in my classroom apart from the one mention in the chapter are students with ADD or ADHD. The supports that I will provide for these students to ensure academic success will be to seat them away from distraction and noise, to be able to focus more on the lesson being taught. One kind of behavioral intervention that can be used for students is the time interval, allowing the students to stop when they hear the timer ring and for the students to keep a checklist and mark yes or no if they are engaged in the learning. Lessons should be stated in ways that give specific instruction of the expectation of the students. By keeping the lesson connected to the previous lessons, if the students are able to have
Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher.
The quantitative method for this study is being used because of the statistical, arithmetical, or a numerical study of facts gathered through surveys, and questionnaires (Babbie, 2010). The quantitative will allow to measure before and after. This quantitative research is significant because it will statistically show the number of teachers that improve with a before and after test design. The methodology will be a Quantitative Quasi-Experimental Pre-Post Test Design.
Classroom observation is a main approach of teaching research. Scholars or researchers use video to record the real whole class and observe the teachers and students’ actions, words and the efficiency in the class. Though the observation, they analyze what approach is more suitable. This paper will select video 5 and video 3 as the material to do the classroom observation. Different aspects such as teachers’ responds, questions, instructions notes and students’ behavior will be addressed to analyze the efficacy of this class.
The following data was gathered while fulfilling duties as a principal intern at Theresa Bunker Elementary School. The data was observed during five to seven minutes of classroom observation as part of a walk-through in the spring of the current school year. My cooperating supervisor for my internship was able to go on these walk-throughs with me in order to have a productive reflection meeting afterwards. This elementary school has two of each grade level from Kindergarten to sixth grade. Since it was more feasible in this small school setting, I actually was able to do a walkthrough in eight classes. Here I will report my observations from five of those walk-throughs. As I went in to each room I was looking for four
