Elise Lai (b.1987) is an artist based in Hong Kong. Her works are about the mode of living, using and embracing the given and the prevailing elements of the surroundings in everyday life in the forms of painting, photography, video and mixed media. In a general sense, they are a kind of distant intimacy in the everyday banal routine of the perceived environment, personal habits and mundane chores. She is interested in the residues of everyday life, always wondering what is left behind after these experiences have taken place — the emotional and physical changes to the perceived environment, the feelings which remain, the material effects like the lingering smells etc., and see what these residues can be, what they can suggest and evoke. She
Many artists explore their personal journeys within their artworks, as a way of understanding their emotions and the world around them, as well as discovering their identity. Sarah Fordham’s art is inspired by her experiences including her travels around the world, and also as a way to make sense of her thoughts, ideas and emotions. These elements are displayed in bright colours, incorporating symbols and patterns in her work. Her two artworks being analysed are called “The Big Call” and “Pokeepskie”.
Preston’ s artwork is very relatable because she takes inspiration from the natural environment and we are able to see parts of her work in our day to day lives. Preston’s works provoke feelings of home and calmness, because of how close they are to reality and to make objects look real she uses, light and shade, colour and dimension, texture and softness to create a complete, complex
Charles Darwin, the naturalist, once wrote, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.” In other words, the most adaptable species prevails. In “Ru” Kim Thuy depicts this idea through Nguyen An Tinh, the main character. Nguyen An Tinh survived because she was the most responsive to the changes in her life. Although she was never near death, she suffered immensely. Fear negates jubilance, but improves chances of survival; endorsement from family alleviates sorrow with pleasure; adaption is not facile, nor is easy. Fear is the inevitable result of suffering leading one to desolation which lacks happiness.
Even though Elie Wiesel and Dina Linik had many differences they still have some interesting similarities . One of the few characteristics they shared was strong willed . They both were going through really tough moments and still continued on no matter what reither it was for themselves or not . They both also witnessed and encountered with other jews through a difficult tight transportation method which was really difficult and uncomfortable to be in for countless of hours . Also , they both were paid in ratios of bread by working hard and doing what others say . Lastly another similar encounter that Elie and Dina experienced together was that they were both in a situation where the area they were in was getting bombed .
Maya Lin is a driven and innovative artist of our time. Many of her works have been seen as controversial and received harsh criticism. She manages to trudge on. Her works express both an artistic and mathematical feel, somehow finding a beautiful marriage between. Her obsession with art and knowledge can be greatly attributed to her parents, as she was very successful at an early age. Her art career is one of many triumphs and breaking boundaries in the art world. Lin has a great love for nature, and many of her pieces help to express the significance of this, and she loves to enthrall the audience.
“I don’t know how I survived; I was weak, rather shy; I did nothing to save myself. A miracle? Certainly not. … It was nothing more than chance”(Weisel vii-viii). Many people believe that Elie Wiesel survived the Holocaust in order to write his memoir on his experiences being a Jewish boy in Auschwitz, but he believes that he just got lucky. Elie Wiesel went to Auschwitz when he was fifteen years old. In his memoir he writes about his experiences during Holocaust, which are not too pleasant. Roberto Benigni grew up in Italy with his father who worked in a camp during the Holocaust. Roberto retells the stories of the Holocaust in his movie Life is Beautiful where he acts, directs and produces. In the movie he, his child Giosue, and his wife
Hey You!Yes you...you know...the one reading this o.O?Today(What?Your'e not gonna read it today cause your reading it now),you'll be reading a book report about the memoir/auto-biography/non-fiction,Red Scarf Girl.No it's ok,yeah I know, book reports are boring, and the title and genre of this book makes it even sound more boring, but WAIT,before you throw this in the fire, remember the phrase:
The primary focus of this section is to explain the “act of painting.” Flack begins her book with notes on the creative process and what it means to be an artist. Everything from the perception of color to confronting a blank canvas is addressed in this section. Audrey Flack briefly touches on the spiritual
Struggles and difficult situations happen to people every day. Many people wonder how a loving God allows bad things to happen to his children, especially when they are his loyal followers. Numerous books have been written to help people suffering, but none more powerful than the novel Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. In this novel, Alcorn chronicles the life and hardships of Li Quan, a Chinese Christian, and the persecution he faces because he chooses to be a follower of Christ. Even though this is a fictional story it is based off actual incidents that happen in China today.
You want to stay faithful, optimistic, sympathetic but imagine if all that changed? Imagine if you stopped believing something you were conditioned to believe from the start. What if you stopped caring? Elie, a Jewish fifteen year old, stopped believing and stopped caring after being sent to the cruel, horrid camps. He does this because he thinks there is no hope for him to escape; no hope for freedom.

Marie Lu’s novel titled Legend is a sci-fi novel based in future North America after it has split into two nations, but is centered in Los Angeles. The book was published by the Penguin Group in New York in 2011. I was initially sceptical over the book about the two different viewpoints but the book’s story line and characters quickly won me over.
Tao Te Ching of Lao-Tzu is a book with many chapters in it showing the two different sides to basically everything. To break it down, Tao means “path” or “way”, Te means “to get”, and Ching means “great book”. So the Tao was the force that controlled the universe and appreciated the way, to find balance between opposites. The book, Tao Te Ching has been said to been written by a Laozi—an old master—and has been said that the true author (or authors’) name has been lost. In the chapters between the book it tells how to live a life of integrity and of greatness per say. It also has contradictions or paradoxes which allows us to see the both perspectives of each side. It shows us that there are always two sides to everything. Tao Te Ching
A measure of financial performance calculated as operating cash flow minus capital expenditures. Free cash flow (FCF) represents the cash that a company is able to generate after laying out the money required to maintain or expand its asset base. Free cash flow is important because it allows a company to pursue opportunities that enhance shareholder value. Without cash, it's tough to develop new products, make acquisitions, pay dividends and reduce debt.
The world as it is today places emphasis on accomplishment above all; to be happy is to be busy. In this pursuit of happiness one can easily miss the joy that is present in every moments, moments that pass them by incognito. This statement is reflected in the art of Wolfgang Laib, whose ability to isolate materials that comprise his art allows him to “reduce them to their purest essence”. The human psyche as it is requires context, meaning. When the average person comes across a sheet of pollen, their mind races from pollen to bees, from bees to hive. Laib’s piece Pollen from Hazelnut commands the viewers to simply view the pollen as it, void of context. When one looks at it, they are not made to see “a direct allusion to landscape”, but
