ELMIRA HEIGHTS (WENY) - Fire crews were on scene for nearly 24 hours spraying water at a warehouse on Prescott Avenue. The fire at 250 Presscott Avenue broke out Sunday night around 8 P.M. and needed at least ten different departments to battle the flames.

Officer Stephen Cook of the Elmira Heights Police Department tells WENY News the teens became persons of interest around around midnight. Around 3 A.M. the teens were arrested and brought before a judge. Authorities haven't released how the teens allegedly caused the fire. Police says the teenagers will be charged as adults but their names wont be released because they're eligible as youthful offenders.

"The Elmira Knitting Mill made undershirts and underwear during World War II. They made a lot military undershirts and underwear and actually received a commendation from the United States Marine Corps," explains Dworkin.
According to Tom Witzel, the owner of Hesselsons, who currently owns the building, says after the knitting mill went out of business in the 1960's it was home to Burruss Storage company. "Prior to Hesselsons's owning it, it had been a moving and storage company that went out of business in '92 so it sat vacant for a few years. Every year different towns and municipalities would place it up for auction so Tom Hesselson actually bought it," says Witzel.
For the past twenty years Hesselsons has been using the warehouse to store inventory. Fortunately, just a few weeks ago Hesselsons moved a majority of its stuff into a new warehouse closer to their business. "So a lot of the stuff had been moved out which is obviously good for us. If this had happened a month ago, who knows what would have happened. We had still had some hot tub and pool stuff over there, a lot of shelving and racking and hot tub parts over there and some generators," says
Life in the early 1900’s wasn’t easy. Competition for jobs was at an all time high, especially in New York City. Immigrants were flooding in and needed to find work fast, even if that meant in the hot, overcrowded conditions of garment factories. Conditions were horrid and disaster was inevitable, and disaster did strike in March, 1911. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York set on fire, killing 146 workers. This is an important event in US history because it helped accomplish the tasks unions and strikes had tried to accomplish years earlier, It improved working conditions in factories nationwide and set new safety laws and regulations so that nothing as catastrophic would happen again. The workplace struggles became public after
In 2003, possibly one of the worst wildfires in California’s history occurred. This fire, referred to as the Cedar Fire, spread across 273,246 acres.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. This factory produced shirtwaists, which are high-necked cotton blouses that working woman wore in 1911.These shirts resembled men’s shirts. The factory was located on the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place, Manhattan in the Asch building. There were ten floors in the Asch building but the factory was only on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors.
As time goes by, everything is evolving: from machines to people. However, evolution does not simply occur, it is caused. On March 25, 1911, the triangle shirtwaist factory (brown building) burned down, taking 146 innocent people's lives with it (Fire, par. 3). These lives could have been saved by the two owners of the Brown Building, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. If they had just taken a few basic precautions, such as supplying a sufficient amount of water to different parts of the building, these people may have been spared (Sweatshops and Strikes, par. 2). The deaths of these innocent workers provoked an uprising towards the factories. The Triangle

On august 29th at 2:30 in the morning a fire broke out by highway 190, east of Springville. The cause of the Pier fire is human caused but is still under investigation; New research shows that humans are the cause of 84% of all wildfires. As of september 18 it has burnt 36,556 acres and is at 95% containment, the estimated containment date is september 20th 12:00 am. And at 10:00am september 18th Tulare County officials lifted all evacuation orders for the Pier Fire, and Highway 190 is now open to traffic. The communities that had mandatory evacuation where Sequoia Crest, Mountain Aire, Rogers Camp, Pierpoint Springs, Cedar Slope, Camp Nelson, Doyle Springs, Alpine Village and Wishon. But the civilians coming back to their homes still have to be aware of the danger still prevalent, such as falling trees and smoke inhalation.
A fire can happen anywhere at any time, if the conditions are right. These conditions could be, the condition of the building is in, the weather, how many people are in the structure, or what is going on inside that structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with evolution of heat and light (flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at every fire so that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. The night club is called The Station, and this club was located in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and was holding a concert where the Great White performed. With all fires investigations occur looking at the fire

in order to avoid shortages for which they were blamed. As part of her plan to minimize inventory, Francesca created the traffic manager position. This individual is responsible for planning the distribution routes so that the Company’s products are distributed to the warehouses efficiently and product shortages are minimized. Now, each of the 14 warehouse managers report directly to Francesca and she works closely with all of them on inventory control.
Fatal fires usually began before the actual fire ever starts. On February 20, 2003 The Station Night Club had a tragic fire. In this case, it started when the co-manager of the Station Night Club purchased cheap sound proof foam which was not fire retardant. The fire retardant, sound proof foam would have been very expensive to purchase and install. The Night Club main frame was primarily wood which fed most of the fire. The pyrotechnics that the band “Great White” used is what ignited the foam which then moved to the wood paneling. This fire took the lives of 100 people. Building a structure safely is the first step in preventing fires. Suppression and detection systems are the next. The Night Club did not have either one.
