Life in the early 1900’s wasn’t easy. Competition for jobs was at an all time high, especially in New York City. Immigrants were flooding in and needed to find work fast, even if that meant in the hot, overcrowded conditions of garment factories. Conditions were horrid and disaster was inevitable, and disaster did strike in March, 1911. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York set on fire, killing 146 workers. In 2003, possibly one of the worst wildfires in California’s history occurred. This fire, referred to as the Cedar Fire, spread across 273,246 acres.

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. This factory produced shirtwaists, which are high-necked cotton blouses that working woman wore in 1911.These shirts resembled men’s shirts. The factory was located on the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place, Manhattan in the Asch building. There were ten floors in the Asch building but the factory was only on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors.

As time goes by, everything is evolving: from machines to people. However, evolution does not simply occur, it is caused. On March 25, 1911, the triangle shirtwaist factory (brown building) burned down, taking 146 innocent people's lives with it (Fire, par. 3). These lives could have been saved by the two owners of the Brown Building, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. If they had just taken a few basic precautions, such as supplying a sufficient amount of water to different parts of the building, these people may have been spared (Sweatshops and Strikes, par. 2). On august 29th at 2:30 in the morning a fire broke out by highway 190, east of Springville. The cause of the Pier fire is human caused but is still under investigation; New research shows that humans are the cause of 84% of all wildfires. As of september 18 it has burnt 36,556 acres and is at 95% containment, the estimated containment date is september 20th 12:00 am. And at 10:00am september 18th Tulare County officials lifted all evacuation orders for the Pier Fire, and Highway 190 is now open to traffic. The communities that had mandatory evacuation where Sequoia Crest, Mountain Aire, Rogers Camp, Pierpoint Springs, Cedar Slope, Camp Nelson, Doyle Springs, Alpine Village and Wishon. But the civilians coming back to their homes still have to be aware of the danger still prevalent, such as falling trees and smoke inhalation.

A fire can happen anywhere at any time, if the conditions are right. These conditions could be, the condition of the building is in, the weather, how many people are in the structure, or what is going on inside that structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with evolution of heat and light (flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at every fire so that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. The pyrotechnics that the band “Great White” used is what ignited the foam which then moved to the wood paneling. This fire took the lives of 100 people. Building a structure safely is the first step in preventing fires. Suppression and detection systems are the next. The Night Club did not have either one.

The city of London was a place of prosperity, a city that connected many people to others from around the world was a little more dangerous than people were lead on to believe. On 1666 a bakery caught fire during the night and fire spread quickly throughout the city of London. Lasting multiple days the it was one of the most destruction fires in the history of the world. The fire of London destroyed countless acers of land, but upon the destruction it allowed for reconstruction of the city, showed how it affected the world and who was being blamed for the fire. A fire in an apartment building left forty-eight people homeless and five residents injured due to smoke inhalation early this morning, in five-fifty east eighty-Sixth Street in Manhattan. In the event of fire I have so many things that are important that I would like that it is hard for me to to pick three. In my room i have lots of irreplaceable. I have all my clothes all my shoes my snowboards my skateboards and my longboards. It hard for me to pick three thing to save. IF i had to save three thing I would save my skateboard, my snowboard, and my little brother.
