Teen idols became a popular fad during the rock n roll era. There were many rock stars that caught the attention of adolescents, but Elvis Presley had their hearts. At this time, which was in the 1950s, he set the standard for teen idols. According to an article on Biography.com, his fans were drawn to his unusual music style, provocative gyrating hips and good looks (“Elvis Presley”). They were merely focused on the performing aspect of his life. During his career, he went to the army for about two years (“Elvis Presley”). Rather than looking at it as a patriotic act that he was accomplishing for the nation, he looked at it as an interference (“Elvis Presley”). He only used his fame to become larger than life. Elvis’ main focus was to become a world superstar. All of Presley’s achievements were based on his music and acting career. To this day, people cannot relate to him unless they are a movie star, singer or a well-known person. They did not focus on what Presley did as a person, but what he did as a performer. However, once his fans started to look in on his personal life, it was already in a downward spiral. After Presley and his wife divorced, he got addicted to drugs and developed a weight problem. Despite his personal obstacles, he still chose to continue performing (“Elvis Presley”). Eventually, he passed away due to a drug overdose. However, on his most recent break, instead of relaxing, he attended the “Believe in Magic Ball” to not only support his best friend, who was the host, but to show his support for the charity as well. This charity event was for terminally ill children to experience a Cinderella Ball for the day, so that they could have fun and not focus on their illnesses (Phi). During the event, Liam took the time to interact with all of the princesses and princes. He bought a couple of items from the silent auction that gave all the proceeds to the charity. At the end of the night, Liam walked out of the ball with his face painted as a tiger because his best mate paid ten thousand pounds for him to do it, so that it could go towards the charity (Phi). He also teamed up with Prizeo earlier this year to celebrate Trekstock’s fifth birthday and asked the fans to donate as well (Rutted). To encourage the fans to donate, he decided to randomly choose one person who donated and fly them to the band’s London show (Rutted). The more he speaks about the charities he supports on social media, the more the fans get involved.
