Emily-Anne Rigal is a Teen Activist who stands up to bullying. When she was just 16 years old, she launched a YouTube channel called WeStopHate from her bedroom in Williamsburg, Virginia. She teaches everyone what bullying is and shares her story so others don’t go through the same thing. She has a non-profit organization and wrote a book to show everyone what to do to defeat the epidemic of bullying all throughout the world
Bullying is a very bad thing. Only 1 in 10 people will tell someone if they are being bullied. If someone is bullied, an adult should be notified immediately. Sadly, 2 out of 3 teens are physically harassed each year. Moreover, every time that someone gets bullied, they have a better chance of having problems at school.

She was bullied all of elementary school because the “Popular” kids thought she was uncool. She was bullied so badly that she was forced to switched schools to a private all girls middle school. When Emily-Anne switched schools, rumors ended up damaging her self-worth, and that turned her into a bully herself during her middle school years. Her friends gave her encouragement, and they were good role models, and she stopped being a bully. She started her no bullying company when she was 16 and became the founder and director of WeStopHate. Now, she is supported by Lady Gaga and ranked one of Newsweek’s most fearless women. She also has received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from President Obama. She was later featured on the 2011 Nickelodeon HALO Awards. WeStopHate organization isn’t just for bullying, it is for stopping hate for everything and everyone. Her channel is so popular, that she has had 1,000,000 views, but it has grown since then. WeStopHate is the 30th most subscribed non-profit YouTube channel on the earth. That is an amazing thing to accomplish. WeStopHate also doesn’t keep the money for themselves, it all goes to stopping hate. The way that WeStopHate raises kids self-esteem is through social media, and many other ways. WeStopHate lets over 100 kids use their channel to raise others self-esteem. WeStopHate called the people that make videos on their channel and the ones that help out Boppers. WeStopHate has also made a partnership with the Body Shop Foundation for when their product Dragon Fruit Lip Balm is sold, the profits of the Lip Balm will go to 3 different organizations to help out people, one of them being WeStopHate. Riley Edlitz suffered through years of harassment in elementary school, which she believes catalyzed her role as a bully. Now a freshman at Scarsdale High School, Riley distinctively remembers feeling powerless and insecure. “The bullying just really got to me, I believed everything they said about me. I felt worthless.” She was mocked, tormented, and insulted on a daily basis; “I became a shell of the person I once was,” she accepts.
Bullying is very common in most schools in the United States Around three million United States students miss class every month just because of bullying. When Alex Libby shared his story he gave a voice to millions of children who suffer from bullying, because he shared his story it changed the way most people think of the effects of bullying. An example of bullying is there was a girl named Kelby Johnson who was mocked by teachers and students because she was a lesbian, she had to stop playing basketball because her ignorant teammates didn’t want to be near her. Alex Libby is one of the 13 million school children in the United States that is being bullied. Alex’s mom said “ Kid’s back in the day, could go home and be safe you can’t do that a lot now, now you can get bullied online.”

Because of this, he was in the movie“Bully”, which is a documentary about his life and what the bullies said to him and how they hurt him. Emily has a reason behind this,though. When Emily was in elementary school, she was bullied so badly because she was overweight, that her self-esteem lowered extremely and had to change schools. Many people suffer from years of trauma after childhood bullying. When she was only 16 years old, Laura Morgan was mercilessly bullied after she broke up with an older boyfriend. He texted her about how dirty and hairy she was. He said that the only reason they went out is because he felt bad for her. She was too overweight to get another boyfriend.
Many people do not realize how serious bullying has become. If you look at statistics suicides due to bullying have increased over just a few short years. This has become a very big problem for not only the victim but the bully as well as it affect both of them.
