Abstract
Emotions are a quality that each individual possess. Organizations place leaders in place that have an understanding on how to maintain emotions while in upper positions. Leadership is responsible for the emotional standard that is set throughout the organization. Growth and development leads to the success of handling proper emotional practices in the organization. Organizations large and small are facing situations that are coming from an area called emotional intelligence. The leadership in the organization has to have ability and understanding to handle issues that may

Leadership is able to give clear instructions to the fellow coworkers. They are also able to seen as productive and positive leaders which are respected. Organizations that are socially aware have an impact as well. Leaders know what is going on within their organization they are communicating and motivating their team. They are not conceited but are humble and helpful. The previous two needs that are used accurately lead to positive conflict resolving. For effective leadership, emotional intelligence has to practiced and used properly. In some circumstances, leadership may not be practicing noble emotional intelligence. These organizations are subject to some harsh consequences. One of the consequences is that a business may have high turnover rate. The leadership is not successful in positive conflict resolution or social awareness. This could cost the organization and the very name of the company. Lawsuits are another form of consequences. The organization could do or say something and the person may feel disrespected or feel the leadership is unethical. An employee can experience emotions to specific reactions to particular events, comprising several components, such as an experiential feeling, cognitions and physiological reactions, which may have behavioral implications (Department of Psychosocial Science, 2012).

In conclusion, today leadership must focus on their strength and weakness evaluating themselves and training in improving the Emotional Intelligence. Self-assessment is an on-going process to achieve high successful result that will benefit companies but at the same time work environments. Researches have analyzed many data in different company size. These researchers have identified that leaders being self-aware, self-confident
Emotional intelligence is a term I had never heard of before I took my first leadership class. Now that I know what emotional intelligence is and I understand how to use it I hope to apply it to benefit myself and my organizations. I recognize what a huge disadvantage those that do not understand emotional intelligence are faced with. Emotional Intelligence has become a vital part of how today's leaders meet the many various challenges they face on a day to day basis. Emotional Intelligence can help leaders lead their group or organization through the good and the bad times, something that fewer and fewer people seem capable of accomplishing. Lack of emotional intelligence is
After studying both the "four branch model" and Goleman's writings, one of the characteristics of emotional intelligence as I understand it is the ability to manage feelings and handle stress. Instead of those feelings and stress becoming a hindrance, the emotionally intelligent individual knows how to use them. The emotionally intelligent leader makes these traits work for them, not only to better relate to staff members, but to guide them and motivate them in order to better do their job and to obtain the goals of the organization. As an example, in the book Primal Leadership Daniel Goleman relates a story of a company that was personally affected by the tragedy of 9/11 (Goleman, et al., 2002). This financial company had family members, friends and coworkers taken away by this event. Instead of internalizing what he was feeling the leader called a meeting with his staff to discuss what they were all going through. They discussed how they wanted to do something about the tragedy to help contribute. So it was decided that they would donate the profits of one days' trading to a fund for the victims of 9/11. On average one day's trading was between five-hundred thousand and one million dollars. The people from this company were so inspired by their leader
"Emotional Intelligence is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. It defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; it determines the majority of our daily actions. Research suggests it is responsible for as much as 80% of the "success" in our lives." The Effective leader requires a high degree of Emotional Intelligence. In this study, the various skills of Emotional Intelligence can be related with real situations. The various skills of Emotional Intelligence are Self awareness, self regulation, motivation, Empathy, social skill. People with high self-awareness are also able
As an Equal Opportunity advisor, I often remind my leaders of the value of their people. Their people should be the center-stage and most importantly they should the most valuable asset of their organization. Work cannot be accomplished without the people. If people are unhappy in a work environment, it could hamper the mission and dismantle everything the leader has worked hard for. Most leaders often lack the ability to lead their people. Leaders are not hand-made. Leaders need to be groomed and understand that they did not get to the top on their own strength. That I why I say to leaders that they need to be emotionally be connected to their people. Emotional Intelligence (EI) could “enhance leaders’ competency of handling
Nice job on your post. “Emotional Intelligence (EI) involves the ability to perceive emotion, the capacity to reason about emotion, to access and generate emotion so as to assist thought, to understand emotions and emotional knowledge, and to reflectively regulate emotion to promote emotional and intellectual growth” (Sadri, 2012, p. 536). I agree with you it is an important component of effective leadership and essential to effective team interaction and productivity. It is an important attribute of a successful leader. Emotional Intelligence needs to be cultivated in order to have a professional impact so as to improve the quality and safety of patient care. Leaders should be able to recognize, appraise, foresee and manage emotions to work
The author was given the task to explain emotional intelligence, and give two (2) example of the concept. Second, to examine, the concept of “emotional quotient” compared to traditional “intelligence quotient.” Third to suggest two to three (2-3) reasons why leaders’ need emotional intelligence to manage today’s workforce, as well as to speculate on at least two (2) possible consequences should a leader not possess emotional intelligence. Fourth, to explore the elements of emotional intelligence that leaders must be aware of to increase leadership effectiveness. Lastly, to recommend a strategy that the organization could undertake in order to improve the social skills of leaders within the organization and thereby
The book “Primal Leadership: Unleashing the Power of Emotional Intelligence” explores the role of emotional intelligence in leadership. Also, opens links between organizational success or failure and "primal leadership," the authors argue that a leader 's emotions are spreadable. If a leader spread energy and enthusiasm, the organization will thrives. If a leader spreads negativity and conflict, the organization will struggles. The authors of this book are Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee’s. The following paragraph will provide short background about each author.
Emotional intelligence is an important characteristic in becoming a good leader. “Emotional intelligence is the ability to manage oneself and one's relationships in mature and constructive ways” (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2009, p.137).Being a good leader entails more than just being smart; leaders need to be able to connect to their employees emotionally and empathetically. Organizations today not only look for leaders with the skills, but leaders that can emotionally connect to employees to obtain the organization’s goal. “Leaders have always played a primordial emotional role. No doubt humankind’s original leaders-whether tribal chieftains or shamanesses-earned their place in large part because their leadership was
A leader is more than just running a group; it is some one who impacts at least one other person’s life in a positive way. A leader is someone who can guide others into accomplishing some success and goals. Furthermore, empower others is essential in the ability to maintain positive leadership. A leader is caring, must be willing to adapt and share the values of others, while still preserving their own personal values and beliefs. One aspect of being a good leader is having strong self-awareness- described as knowing your own strengths and weaknesses. Emotional intelligence, another aspect of being a respectable leader, is knowing your inner emotional state and remaining in control of it. Emotional
Emotional Intelligence and Leadership It was Daniel Goleman who first brought the term “emotional intelligence” to a wide audience with his 1995 book of that name, and it was Goleman who first applied the concept to business with his 1998 HBR article, reprinted here. In his research at nearly 200 large, global companies, Goleman found that while the qualities traditionally associated with leadership—such as intelligence, toughness, determination, and vision—are required for success, they are insufficient. Truly effective leaders are also distinguished by a high degree of emotional intelligence, which includes self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill. These qualities may sound
Overall, Emotional Intelligence and resonant leadership are very important concepts in the marketplace today. They are vital to the dynamics of an organization and are qualities that the modern leader must possess in order to foster change and inspire others towards the achievement of goals and objectives. It is through these two concepts that a leader is truly able to elicit team unity and foster an atmosphere of change within the organization.
In a study by Mandell and Pherwani (2003), the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and transformational leadership style was examined in order to determine whether EI scores could be used to predict transformational leadership style. In addition, gender differences in the relationship between EI and transformational leadership were examined to determine if there is a significant interaction of gender and emotional intelligence. This research is important, because transformational leadership has been found to be the most effective style of leadership. Therefore, if EI can predict transformational leadership style, it would be useful for organizations to use EI measures in their selection battery for managerial positions and in development of current managers. In the study, transformational leadership was defined as a leadership style that encourages subordinates to look at their work from different viewpoints, motivates employees to promote the organization’s mission, and develops employee abilities. Emotional intelligence was defined as an ability that involves self-monitoring of one’s own feelings and emotions, as well as, monitoring the emotions of others in order to guide one’s behaviors and make decisions.
