It is unknown to most that fentanyl, the powerful synthetic opioid analgesic responsible for many accidental heroin overdoses, is so potent that even a gloved EMT assisting an overdose victim can overdose as well. This daunting fact means anyone from an everyday EMT to a kind stranger can be instantly killed while simply trying to help, without any causation of the incident. It is this so-called “fun fact” that grapples my thoughts into an intriguing self-colloquy so engrossing I lose track of time: life can be completely transfigured within a matter of seconds, whether we are welcoming of it or not. With this in mind, my brain drifts and I realize this topic that captivates me has guided how I have led my life and made decisions for the past several years, although it is an idea so seemingly obvious it can be difficult for some to fathom.
The possibility of such a horrific occurrence as an accidental overdose when

Instead of making use of this life-changing concept, most sit and bemoan about the grievances life has thrown their way, yet do nothing to ameliorate them. It is unsettling to think that I can lose everything at the drop of a hat, but I find this so fascinating because with each opportunity of loss there is a possibility for something better. With every death and accident there is a reminder that life is short and unpredictable, but we can't let that stop us from being that kind stranger or having childlike wonder, instead we have to let it be our reason to strive for change because just when things seem stagnant, there is a new door ready to open if we would only turn the
Every year thousands of people die from an overdose, leaving behind friends and family. Once someone starts using drugs they get addicted and they can't stop. They will go out of their way to get drugs and will do anything to use. People go against their family and friends and end up caring about themselves and nothing else. Being addicted to drugs is like having a disease that is very hard to get rid of.
Everyone is born into this world with a sense of innocence, completely oblivious to the cruelties of the world. However, as humans grow up and reach early- adulthood, they begin to realize the realities of this world, all that is real and all that is, in fact, a figment of the imagination. As people learn that it is truly impossible to stay hidden from the harsh realities of adulthood for their entire life, they also learn that it is impossible to shield others from these truths as well. They learn that although they may not be able to protect themselves from life’s misfortunes, they must perceiver, move forward, and not hold anyone back in their tracks. Just as all humans eventually learn to accept and move past life’s various misfortunes,
When people go through something difficult it can change them. Making them who they are, it can change them for the bad or good. Therefore, hardships can greatly influence a person’s life by making them appreciate all the things that make life enjoyable.
No sound strikes more fear and excitement in a firefighters heart, than when the screeching of an alarm echoes through the fire station. Those emotions intensify as we race to the ambulance as vague details of the call crackle over the radio. In those moments it is vital to compose yourself and harness those emotions and channel them into -------. As I sat at the station one night studying for an exam I had the next morning, the alarm began to ring out. In an instant I went from student to EMT and began on one of my most memorable calls. As dispatch relayed the details of single vehicle rollover with multiple passengers, we began to develop a plan.
I always tell myself that in today 's world we are not living. We are just surviving to see the next day. Just like McCandless said: "But this is not important. It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found.”(37). He withstands many new experiences because he wants to live life at its fullest potential and does not want to conform to society 's standards. He wants to find truth and not lead the uniform life that has been mapped out for him since birth. ”We misread him”(20). Mccandless’ father observes rather dumbfounded. Mccandless’ family has high expectations of him, they want
Since my younger years I have been compelled to differentiate between enduring and overcoming. From my parent’s divorce, our financial instability and my multiple social dislocations, I had to learn to adapt to ever-changing environments and circumstances. Before my grandfather died he shared with me one of his favorite quotes and one that I will never forget, which says that, “the key to life is found by
S/L Walker was dispatching for evening shift at 08/29/15. S/L Walker receive a call for a welfare check at KC-219. The daughter, Karen, usually talk to her mother at around 2100 hr. But tonight could not reach her. S/L Walker took down the information and send an officer up to the apartment. S/L Walker called the apartment while the Officer was en route. There was no answer by phone. S/L Walker notified the Officer. S/O EMT Funes was the reporting officer. When S/O EMT Funes arrived on the scene, there was no answer by knock. S/O EMT Funes entered via her master key because the door was lock and search the apartment. There was no one home and S/O EMT Funes left a white tag #28798. S/O EMT Funes cleared. S/L Walker called the daughter twice
My life has always been a series of transitional phases that was as every-changing as the seasons themselves. The words of my literary heroes were my utmost comfort; they inspired my confidence and my character, and moved me to be a more visceral, understanding person. I believe that during my time I have been wizened, and connected to the roots of all humanity; in my imagination I see it as the growth of a sampling into the dampness of the earth and the jaded formation of rough bark. Ralph Waldo Emerson, whose transcendental views have inspired me, was once quoted as saying, “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” I believe that is true, and with every choice I’m reminded of that hopeful and assertive message.
Willa Cather once said, “The end is nothing; the road is all.” It doesn't matter how things turn out, it's the journey that really matters. That's where you learn the most and are able to grow as a person. I agree with and respect this quote, because it reaches out to those who may be going through a rough time and are in need of comfort. This quotes shows us that through rocky times with ourselves, others, or life in general, that what matters most is not the result, but the road taken to where we are now.
how easily life can be taken away, and that people should try to come together
Bryant McGill once said “Suffering is one of life's greatest teachers” and this quote is very true. Suffering from a tragedy, many seem like the worst thing to ever happen, but if you push through and persevere, you will learn so much about yourself and the others around you. Through Suffering we learn from our past to grow our communities in the spirit of a hopeful future by preserving and bravery.
The biggest struggle in our lives, is life itself. We struggle to survive today, so we can fight tomorrow, and thrive the next day. This is why our lives are so valuable to us, why we cannot throw it away easily, and why we fight to preserve it. If life could just be given and taken away without any consequence and effort, if it were just a mere “cake walk” it would have no value what so ever.
You can ask a hundred different people about their opinion on life and you’ll probably get a hundred different answers. Yet an overlying message that may be heard would be that life will knock you down a couple of times. Graduating from high school and soon being on your own, will cause many to come to find out how true this message is. Bad days are destined to happen. There will be days when you’ll be in the library with bags under your eyes working on assignment that is due in 5 hours. There will be days you’ll be so exhausted that you don’t even remember what happened in your classes. There will be days where all you can do is stay in bed, and that’s okay. Bad days are destined to happen, there is no way around it. You can ask everyone you know and more than not, they’ll say that they’ve reached rock bottom at one point in their life. Sometimes people forget that bad things are supposed to happen. Yet when bad things happen, it forces us to look at the good in life. Because in life, the things that go wrong are often the very things that lead to other things going
Many people go through hard times in life and in the end we all learn a lesson of some sort, whether that lesson be about
If Emotiv manages to convince one of the console makers in time for a fall 2008 debut, what marketing strategy (in terms of price, channel, consumer promotions, etc.) would best facilitate rapid adoption? What kind of demand could materialize for the EPOC if it is console enabled? How about if EPOC is only PC enabled?
