The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gasses in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gasses, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60° Fahrenheit colder, and our current way of life would be impossible, as well as for plants and animals. (source). Since the industrial revolution began over 150 years ago, the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has risen by 25 percent (source). This is gradually cumulative to our planet as more automobiles and machinery are being produced will result in global warming.
The most significant greenhouse gas is water vapor, which plays an important role in regulating climate. The changes in water vapor from human activities such as irrigation and deforestation can affect temperatures on the Earth’s surface (source). The second, is carbon dioxide, which is one of the main reasons for global warming. An increase in carbon emission causes the planet to warm by intensifying the IR energy influx in greenhouse effect (source). Also, carbon dioxide emission comes from deforestation and burning of fossil fuels. The third, is ozone for where life exists on our planet. It absorbs the higher-energy emitted from the Sun before reaching the Earth’s surface (source). However, the ozone in normally seen as smog can cause health problems for humans, animals, and plants.
The greenhouse effect is how the Earth naturally warms up. During the greenhouse effect, the sun radiates it heat into our atmosphere. From there, most of the heat gets trapped in the Earth’s surface, which is later released back into our atmosphere. At the lower atmosphere, water vapor and carbon dioxide are the gases that absorb most
Global warming is, in essence, term for the observed century scale rise in the average temperature of the earth’s climate and its related effect.(wiki) The greenhouse effect is mainly because the modern industrial society burned too much coal, oil and natural gas, the fuel combustion after release large amounts of carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the function of heat absorption and heat insulation. It
The greenhouse effect on earth results from a higher concentration of carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane in the atmosphere.
The greenhouse effect is when the heat from a planet's air warms the planet's surface to a temperature above what it normally would be without its air. What causes the greenhouse effect is that energy comes from the sun and reflects off of the earth’s surface and then goes back to the atmosphere as a bunch of heat. It affects the Earth by making the atmosphere warm.
The greenhouse effect is a process in which the thermal radiation emitted by the planetary surface is absorbed by the atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) and is in all the directions. Since part of this is returned to the surface and lower atmosphere, the results at a level of the surface of the media regarding what is in the absence of GHGs.
Five gas molecules that attribute to the Greenhouse Effect are: Water Vapour (H2O), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Methane (CH4), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Carbon Dioxide is the most significant of these gases. This is because it is the most common of all the gases and acts as a very effective blanket to keep heat trapped in the Earth’s Atmosphere. Nitrous Oxide and Methane act in similar ways, but to a lesser extent since they aren’t produced as much. Water Vapour is also abundant like Carbon Dioxide, and it increases as the Earth’s temperature does due to the process of evaporation. This
The greenhouse effect put simply is gases in the atmosphere trapping heat causing the average temperature on the earth to slowly increase over the year. The reason why it is such a hot topic is because this not only effects
a) Greenhouse effect is the direct natural result of Sun powering climate on the Earth. Sun’s radiation is passing through the Earth’s atmosphere which in turn causing the Earth’s surface to warm up. As an estimation, about 30% of the solar energy is bouncing back to the space as a results of the Earth’s atmosphere. The other 70% of solar energy is attracted by the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. In order to create a balance, Earth has to reflect this extra amount of energy back to space but, part of this reflection is absorbs by Earth’s atmosphere and will be sent back to Earth. This process is warming up the Earth’s surface and prevents the temperature on the Earth’s surface to drop below zero Celsius degrees. This is called natural Greenhouse effect but, due to various human activities such as deforestations and fuel burning and other factors have exacerbate this natural process of Greenhouse effect in which created the global warming [1]. The primary greenhouse gases are water vapor (H2O): from the water on the Earth’s surface. Carbon Dioxide (CO2): its increase in the atmosphere is due to the fuel burning process. Methane (CH4): its increase in the atmosphere is due to several reasons such as melting permafrost, landfills generate CH4, and when ocean temperature rises causes release of Methane. Nitrous Oxide (N2O): agriculture and soil cultivating cause increase in the amount of N2O in the atmosphere. Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC): released to the earth’s atmosphere
There are four major gases that cause the greenhouse effect. These chemicals are Chloroflourocarbons (CFC’s), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), and Methane (CH4). “CFC’s destroy ozone molecules by the thousands, causing a smaller amount of ozone in the ozone layer. This allows more UV rays hit the Earth’s surface, causing a slight increase of the Earth’s temperature. The more ozone molecules destroyed, the more UV rays enter the Earth’s atmosphere, making the temperature even higher”(What Is The Greenhouse Effect).
land and as it rises it hits the o-zone layer and bounces back into the earth
Global warming can be defined more precisely by this quote: “Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would be too cold to support life. Over time, the amount of greenhouse gases trapped in Earth’s atmosphere has increased significantly, causing worldwide temperatures to rise” (“Global Warming and Climate Change”). The greenhouse effect traps heat throughout the globe; thus warming the world at an alarming rate. One type of greenhouse gas is methane. “Methane, for example, is a greenhouse gas that is twenty-one times as potent as carbon dioxide.” (“Global Warming and Climate Change”) Methane is more harmful to the environment because plants cannot absorb it and turn it into oxygen, plants can only absorb carbon dioxide.
Greenhouse gases reduce the escape of the earth’s infrared radiation into space. This “greenhouse effect” causes the earth to maintain warm temperatures. Due to human activities, the earth’s temperature has steadily increased, thus causing global warming. This rise in temperature leads to climate change, an increase of infectious diseases, droughts, changes in precipitation, the rising and warming of oceans, and glacial melting.
The greenhouse effect is what allows life on Earth and the atmosphere contains trace gases which are designed to retain heat. The gases that are present in the atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide. These gases act as a global insulator and help control the Earth’s atmosphere. It all begins with sunlight which is a form of energy that is mostly absorbed by land, oceans, and a portion of the sunlight is reflected back to the atmosphere. Once the earth warms up, it then gives off energy in a different form which is called infrared radiation or electromagnetic radiation. The planet need some of the greenhouse gases because without them the
Global Warming is a term that is used to describe the gradual increase in the average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans, which is believed to be permanently changing the climate. A term that is often associated with global warming is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is why humans are capable of living on this Earth, if there were no such thing; the atmosphere would never to be able to warm up. When levels of the greenhouse gases increase, it traps more heat into the atmosphere, which may be caused by humans releasing large amounts of gases into the atmosphere (Robinson 8).
Greenhouse gases are compounds in the atmosphere that can trap and hold extra heat, which increases the temperature in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases is the cause of the greenhouse effect that leads up to global warming. The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun’s warmth in the lower atmosphere that is due to the visible radiation from the sun. The solar radiation reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, then the rest of the sun's energy is absorbed by the oceans and lands which result in the heating of the Earth. After that the heat from the Earth goes towards space, some of the heat is trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouses gases which make the Earth warm enough to tolerate living life. The burning of fossil fuels and land clearing start to increase the number of greenhouse gases which travels into the atmosphere. The result of trapping extra heat cause the Earth’s temperature to rise. Scientist's has proven that the constant increase of heat in the atmosphere is caused by humans. The reason humans are proven guilty for the increase of global warming is because of the amount of carbon that is put into the atmosphere. Carbon is released from burning coal, oil, and gas or cutting down and burning forests. Carbon (CO2) is known as the main source of heat-trapping gas which is mainly responsible for the increase of warming over the years. The removal of trees is another cause of global
