Using Data What is data? Well from the definition, data are facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis, sometimes being more of an opinion then fact in certain situations. But what happens when an entire generation of Millenniums gets together, create a survey of varying questions and make a data set of the responses? Well for example, that’s exactly what my English 1102 class was tasked with and, in result, you find similar minds. In fact, you find this same similar mind across many generations depending on age. For example my generation had a lot of topics dealing with drugs, alcohol, current events and politics. The same topics were probably on the minds of Baby Boomers around the age 18 - 27. This is because I tended to be more realistic to the answering of some of the questions. For instance, “when you are finished with college, will you return home or find your own place?” 91.7 percent of my class chose that they would find their own place within that small time frame. Realistically speaking, most students after graduation will return home to parents or some sort of family or friends. Why, because statistically more than 83 percent of graduating students won’t have jobs lined up. How do they plan on taking care of themselves with a mediocre job, assuming they even have that, and let’s not forget about student loans those too will kick in and sneak attack all the students who have forgotten. The last characteristic I then noticed that made me differ was rationalism. On a question where we were asked “should the legal drinking age be lowered in the US?” 66.7 percent agreed that it should, but why should it? Until the age of around 21, young adults are still pretty immature, naïve, and invisible. With this sort of mindset, it would surly lead to a surge of more DUI cases. And DUI’s is the least of what could become if the legal drinking age were to be
