The revision exhibit shows my improvement as a writer throughout the course of English 1101. For my revision exhibit, I chose to show my revision process from my first essay where I write an evaluation on the restaurant Clocked and how it can make one feel at home. When I first turned in my evaluation, I was confident that I would receive a high grade. However, after receiving peer reviews from my classmates and comments from my professor, I realized that my evaluation was far from perfect. The following excerpt is from the introduction and body paragraphs of my first essay. Below, I included a key of what each highlight color means. Before starting English 1102 I was so excited because I knew who class I wanted to take; but, his class was full. I was a very sad cookie. Then my friend Josh told me her knew a professor that was better than the one I wanted and that I would love her class. I’m glad I trusted Josh and took this class. In my English 1102 class I evolved as a writer, experienced a lot of new things, made a few mistakes, and learned from them.
Furthermore, according to Duncan Carter’s article, Five Myths About Writing, “Years of well-intentioned English teachers have responded to students’ first drafts as if they were supposed to have been perfect. Combined with a pedagogy which suggests that revision is a form of punishment, it is not hard to see where students get the idea that good writers don’t have to revise” (Carter, 82). Growing up, high school teachers make it seem as if revising and editing your paper is the worst thing ever. Any student who worked long and hard on their assignment and turned it in to get revised, would hate to receive a paper back with nothing but red marks and errors written all over them. This initially gave people the mindset of forgetting about editing their work if all it did was tear them down and point out their mistakes.
During my time spent in the English 110 I endured a writing style of APA that was barely introduced to me in high school. The most beneficial things I learned throughout my research process this year is the use of the writing center and librarians , the online databases, and the moodle forum post allowed me not only to succeed in English 110, but will give me beneficial techniques to use in future papers I will have to write.
My final thoughts towards English 1301 would probably be described in one word which would be awesome; from what I learned in class will help me out towards my path to the future I understand that I still have some errors as I write essays or journals; but I will like to believe that I will get better as I stay in English and I work more on my dents that I have.
Revising is another significant activity that I acquired from the course. As a writer, I have to fix some logical mistakes in my essay, check on the missing steps, the awkward transitions, and any confusing organization or outline. Proofreading is another step for the writing process, where English 1101 demand individuals to read out the revised paper loudly, to identify any mistakes that need correction. The last step is formatting, which has an aim of making the essay perfect. I discovered that I have to make sure my essay is appropriately formatted, meeting all the MLA style requirements.
In English 1101 we wrote several pieces of writing. Each piece was unique and I learned new things with everyone. My favorite piece of writing was the research paper because I could choose the topic and it was a topic I think is very interesting. Even though it was probably the hardest one to write I thought it was my best piece and I loved my topic of Genetically Engineered Babies. My least favorite was the memoir because I struggled writing it and I had trouble picking a topic. It turned out being a really good memoir but I didn’t love writing it. My strongest piece is probably my common app essay because I put everything I was into that paper. My paper was called “I’m So Much More Than a Test Score”. It was really powerful and explained
A successful English 1301 student is not just one who has passing grades, but one who does all their task wisely.When i first started English comp 1301 i thought i was going to breeze through it without a problem,but i was wrong. The class proved to be a challenge that required a great deal from me. It required time-management, determination, flexibility, focus, priorities, communication and engagement. Although I did great at demonstrating some of the traits, there were some that i did not excel at, and for that I paid the price.

During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn’t comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english.
I intend on acing English 1102 online. Prior to this course, I was home schooled for three and a half years, and many of my classes were online. One of the online programs I used was Florida Virtual. Additionally, I have completed three online college courses—including English 1101. Because I have engaged in online schooling, I have established the skills necessary to devote myself not only to a physical classroom, but also to online environment. In the beginning, being self-motivated was difficult. I transitioned from a public middle school to a self-disciplined online program. As the Fall 2017 term comes to end, I look back on what I have accomplished in this class. English 102 – Composition II was one of the most challenging and toughest class I have taken at UW-Stout, but feel as though it has helped me to improve my writing skills. Even before the semester started the feeling of anxiety had taken over, as writing has never been my strongest skill, but stayed positive and confident I would be successful. Much to my surprise, my instructor, Michael Critchfield quickly addressed that this class would not be easy and amazingly changed my views of writing throughout the entire semester.
Despite the review I got on any of these assignments I have taken away a ton from each piece. English 103 has given me a short measure of time to deliver a wide range of composing pieces, and in addition winding up more educated while creating bits of work. Going into English 103 I was to a great degree positive about my written work capacity and did not understand the huge measure of terms and methods I had never known about. The greatest perspective I am detracting from this class is on terms I had never utilized or heard in English class: ethos, feeling, and logos. These three associated terms were acquainted with me at the earliest reference point of the semester and were immediately installed into my brain and my composition. In class
The Magna Carta is the most famous document in British history, being introduced and signed by King John in 1215. The Magna Carta opened the doors to democracy in England and America. The Magna Carta or the “Great Charter” has been hailed as the “sacred text” of liberty in the Western World. The Magna Carta set the foundation and basic ideas for modern democracy. It gave the people basic rights and abolished absolute monarchy for England. The Magna Carta provided and built the foundation for modern democracy with its premises the government guarantees basic rights for the people, established a basic rule of law and allowing a group to govern rather than an individual.
The things learned during the class, English 203, has not only helped the ability to write better, but also the ability to expand the research on each paper I have written. From the very beginning of this semester, I was taught to write an abstract, which I have never done before, but the basis of an abstract is to look at the big picture and take all the important points of a paper. Also, the papers that was written throughout the semester was not all based around one topic. The topics varied from sciences to engineering feats, while also coming up with our own business proposal where we learned how to format and make it a clean presentation of the idea, and finally we had to research Spartacus, and how it relates to history whether it is historically accurate or not. Taking English 203 has furthered my ability to write papers learning different techniques and ideas making myself a better writer.
Of the many expectations I have of English 1101, three are very important to me: improving my vocabulary, communication skills, and the ability to enhance my writing skills. During college the most fundamental class will be English. English will help me with all subjects in my curriculum, by building better communication skills, and will help with me with everyday life. In today's world of increased communications, particularly of a digital nature, writing skills are an important aspect of expression on a personal, professional and educational level. People send written communications more frequently and quickly than ever in the form of text messages, emails and social media updates.
