English 150 Class Reflection

Engineers define a successful task by measure the efficiency of the final product when the process is done. The same theory apply to me when I step into English 150 class for Fall semester, 2014. Coming from Mechanical Engineering background, I tend to think like an engineering because this is what I need to prepare for my future job. I like to measure the efficiency of learning English by look at the effort that I put on this subject and make it worth measure what I have improve for this semester. There are several important improvement that I can made through semester which are benefiting skills as a student, spotting my weakness, and finding way decrease my weakness. In this class, I found that I am bad in oral and transition. Speaking on behalf international student, I admit that oral is the main problem for us to communicate to the other people. This is because English is not our native language. However, according to Todey (2014), “There is no one right way to speak English,” is the most inspired words that I heard from my instructor, has give me a brand new spirit to life as a stronger student. Of course, compared to other students especially American, I felt uncomfortable to speak and voice out my opinion during discussion because I worry that they will not understand me. That’s why I chose to silence when my instructor ask my class any question, even though I know the answer. My second weakness is making transition during writing. I don’t really know how to connect the idea between paragraphs because when we talk about another paragraph, it is obviously we are talking about other and different idea and topic, depending the assignment. This is why I found that transition is a very challenging and my weakness on writing so
