Within the English III class, my former experience in creative writing and affinity for classical styles of literature shall more than likely provide the ability for growth within the classroom. As a person who values differing perspectives, my ultimate goal is to obtain a variety of perspectives involving those in the course, as well as the literary discussions relating to real world social perspectives and morality. As a student I am aware of the need to make great efforts in not only becoming involved with the material, but learning to understand and analyze various styles of writing and grammar. despite my lack of experience in English college courses, it will be the strides I make both inside and outside of the classroom that leave a
Since elementary school English was always my favorite subject. I knew that reading and writing were essential to my learning for me to succeed. Growing up I was always in love with writing stories about my life, so when it came to my English class it was always a breeze for me. I remember being in Ms. Eaton’s class which was when I first was introduced to how to write a narrative. Not only did this class help me become a better writer at such young age but also improved my reading skills so much. I was always in activities that improved my overall techniques in English.
In English 1102 students will learn many different techniques throughout the course to understand and compose an analysis on an array of topics. After the course is over it is up to the students to apply what they have learned to everyday life. Many students throughout this course have questioned why they have to learn this material and that it will not even help them in the real world, but they are wrong. Each and everyday people should look at the deeper meaning and analyze situations very carefully or else one may find themselves being deceived. Being able to analyze is a very important skill no matter what career choice you choose. In this course the material assigned also had many life lessons in them. A great example of a reading assignment
During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn’t comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english.
The five-minute warning bell goes off. I rush to my first class of my junior year, eager to see my classmates, who I was going to spend the rest of the 9 months with. I find myself stumbling into a classroom plastered with decorations of Denzel Washington with a Dr. Seuss book in his hand, a t and college flags galore. My AP English 11 class suddenly seemed so appealing to me. As a beautiful, curly haired short lady stood in front of me and said “Welcome to AP English 11,” I knew that I had found a treasure so much greater than just a pretty classroom. Little did I know, that short lady was going to inspire me throughout my challenge filled second-to-last year of high school.
Prior to attending Mrs. William’s English Comp 1 class, I felt marginally confident about my writing, however, I knew I needed improvement. You visually perceive, I’ve been out of school for proximately thirty-three years and honestly, not knowing what to expect these questions arose, “Can I genuinely write”? “What type of writing will be required”? “How well will I do”? When I stepped into the classroom and gazed about the room, I felt out of my element. The students were much younger and more keenly intellective than recollections but, I was here for a reason and that was to improve my writing. During my childhood, reading was a passion of mine, reading often and reading more books than I can recollect. As I reflect, reading a great deal
When first learning about 1011 option I had bittersweet feelings about it, I love English but I’m pretty lazy. Pretty much being forced into the class I went in skeptical on the course and instructor, asking myself “ do I need this extra work load”? Unless learning is love for someone, I’m sure anyone with the same option to take this course would think similarly. I’m here to tell you that the 1011 course is a worthwhile option for students. The class community, additional supports in 1010, and one on one with instructors make this class an awesome option for any student.
The English Department at Parsippany High School is known for Mrs. Sanchez’s Honors English 3 class. Through the first week of school, I found out that the class is notorious in PHS because of the tough demands and work load that would be placed on me. First, an essay on 1984 hit me, then a project on Tess of the D’Urbervilles, and then we went right into reading Beowulf. I had no idea that the class was going to be as hard as people actually said it was. However, I stood undeterred with any assignment that would come my way, as I was mentally prepared and took on everything with the best of my abilities. Even though I did not succeed in some cases, I did not let that bring me down, and continued to focus on the greater skills I would develop
Now as a sixteen year-old, I read copious amounts of articles and books. I am also making what the North Carolina grading system considers, “spectacular” grades. It was not always like this as I was scattered in second grade. I was doing the opposite of what I am accomplishing now until I had a breakthrough in January of 2007, during second grade. I credit this breakthrough to reading. Along the way, I had my family, the reading class, and my supporters reassuring me.
American Literature II is a class that delineates very unique pieces of literature from the 1800’s until this present day. If I had the privilege to teach an American Literature II class, I think it would be fun, and a way to better help me understand the pieces of literature as the students understand them. I would want my students to get a thorough overview of literary creations in the United States as it pertains to the 18th and 19th Centuries to this present day of Post-Modern.
In the English 1A class, Professor Lang made me write two types of writing, which are the private free writing and the public writing (the introduction about myself). After that, I found some differences between these two which made one easier than the other. First of all, the definition is what made them not alike. The private free writing is about writing for yourself and only you can see it. You can erase or even burn it if you do not want anyone else find out. On the other hand, the public writing is about writing for others, who can read and comment on it. For this reason, preparations are necessary. Secondly, you will feel more comfortable and can write anything that come up to your mind when you’re doing a free writing. But you will
Almost Eight weeks have elapsed since the start of English Composition One and in these short eight weeks, I have absorbed a tremendous amount of information on the subject of writing. Many times during this class I have mentioned my long absence from college. Restarting the educational process has not been an easy task. English Composition, in particular, has been a problematic area for me, currently and historically. Gratefully, throughout this class, I have been given valuable tools to guide me through my writing. Through these tools, I have regained some of that information lost because of my long absence. The use of the eLearning material presented by MindEdge as well as the continuing support of Professor Morrison and my fellow students through the utilization of the discussion board has enabled me to flourish beyond my expectations.
Although I lived in the United States for six years, listening and speaking were not the matter; however, reading and writing English was the most difficult things to improve. Through taking English 100 D/E class, my English writing and reading skills have extremely improved. In the class, we had to read many articles and discuss together with other classmates. I enjoyed having a conversation with my classmates and professor about reading and this also improved my English speaking and listening skills. Some part that I disliked with the seminar, in my opinion, was few students did not participate in the discussion. Seminar is one of the great opportunities to understand better and get some more informations that I might never think about it;
During the semester of English Composition, I have grown into a stronger writer. Through writing different pieces such as descriptive and persuasion topics, the ideas have been created through words. Due to this class, I have felt to become a more confident writer going into college. By achieving the curriculum, developing new ideas and describe new topics, I have learned to achieve in this course.
Almost Eight weeks have elapsed since the start of English Composition and in these short eight weeks, I have absorbed a tremendous amount of information that I will be taking with me in my pursuit of a college degree. I have mentioned many times in this class that I have been absent from college for almost twenty-five years. Restarting the educational process has not been an easy undertaking. English Composition, in particular, has been a problematic area for me, currently and historically. Gratefully, throughout this class, I have been given valuable instruments that I can take along with me class by class. Through the last eight weeks of this term, I have regained some footing I lost through the years with the aid of the tools presented in this class. The use of the eLearning material by MindEdge as well as the continuing support of Professor Morrison and my fellow students through the utilization of the discussion board has enabled me to flourish beyond my expectations.
William Shakespeare once said “A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool”. I knew I had much to develop in the span of the two years. However, this semester in English 1030 I was surprised by how much I actually learned and also how much I developed the writing skills I already had. My portfolio of the semester includes four pieces of writing and this reflective essay. I have decided to discuss what I have learned throughout these four pieces developing my voice within the two rhetorical analyses, developing my grammar skills further during the argument paper, and developing my investigation skills during the research paper.
