The key struggles had in English course is to put my thoughts and well developed ideas on paper. Every time we would have new assignments it would take me a while to have clear ideas and brainstorm them. How I worked to overcome come them is I would always ask Mrs. Fox for help and I would also do a lot of research about that particular topic. The most helpful thing that helped me to overcome that struggle was the rubrics and checklist that we would get in class. Because that would help me stay focused on what I really need to write about. The other struggle I had was with my grammar and sentence fragments. what I did to help me make my paper look well polished is I would go to the writing center and have tutor look at it and fix what needs
Well trying to learn in my English class it was very hard for me because I did not understand the way in which the teacher is teaching because it did not appeal to my learning style, which I figured out while doing our second paper. The way I figured out that help was needed by only my second paper was when going over the paper and seeing what were the problems with the paper I still was not able to correct what I was doing. Overcoming this was particularly difficult because when coming to the teacher for help I still was unable to grasp the learning. This is when I turned to peer for help which helped me tremendously while in this class, as well as, visiting the AAC on campus where someone sit down with you and go through and help you improve your writing techniques and skills that what helped me achieve a passable
Throughout the English 101 course, I believe I have thoroughly improved in my writing, peer editing, and analyzing readings, along with annotating my thoughts, misunderstandings, and difficulties. I believe I have especially improved on my thesis statements, providing the basis for my essays. My thesis statements have went from being plain and uninteresting to being more detailed, clear, and concise. This enabled me to produced better written essays that are rich in detail, rhetorical statements, evidence, and experiences. I feel as if I came into this course not exactly sure how to write a college paper. I was always more focused on the length of my essays rather than the structure, vocabulary, and ideas my papers were exhibiting. My writing now flows better and presents my ideas in a clear, organized fashion.
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph.
During the first semester of English 1101 there were times I struggled but, I did see progression in my work along the way. Looking back on my writings from previous years, my teachers have always noticed the amount of detail I put into my papers. What the noticed I struggled in was sentence structure and excessive use of run-ons. Turning in my first writing assignment this year, I noticed those problems were still there. I understood I needed to work on my simple mistakes in order to be at the college level writing that I’m expected to be at next year.
I am currently a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio for almost a whole semester now. I came to this school straight out of high school, not knowing what I was getting myself into. During my high school years, I was good at every subject except my writing class. Coming to UTSA, I knew I was going to struggle in my writing class, but that didn’t discourage me from not trying my best in the course. Going through the English program, I realized that I have some strengths and weaknesses in the class, and it encouraged me to do better. The essays I have written for this class demonstrate that I have developed a strong thesis, organization skills, and detail; however, I still need to improve on grammar, keeping the POV, and citing.
The hardest part for me was staying under the 600 word limit, I had to learn how to crunch my ideas more directly and take out all the unecesarry details and ideas. One thing I learned in this english class is to start with an outline. Due to the fact that I did start with an outline I had all my ideas down on paper, this helped me pinpoint which ideas were the most persuasive and important. I chose to write my opinion piece on if NASA should get more funding from the federal budget. Once everyone finished their drafts, we had peer groups look over it. I got positive feedback but I still was over my word limit. My group helped me decide the least effective idea and what I could add in replace and how to make it more persuasive. From writing this type of paper I learned how to be more persuasive and how to better distinguish between good ideas and great
English is a hard language to learn, for there are numerous elements of effective usage and writing. Many people, including me, struggle in writing because of a lack of knowledge. Since middle school, English was not a strong suit of mine. I struggled with the simplest of tasks often taking a considerably longer time to complete a task than the other students. Unmotivated teachers and a lack of interest resulted in remedial writing skills. To put it simply, I had little confidence in my writing and I dreaded taking the class because of the writing involved. In spite of my fears, I took the course and I was able to perfect and challenge my mediocre writing skills.
I must admit, at the beginning, English course description was overwhelming and made me question my own capabilities. English is my second language and on top of that, I always had difficulty writing pretty much everything; essays, summaries. Last four months has been very busy. Under the knowledgeable and helpful eye of my professor, I have read and analyzed multiple articles on various
Although, most of the time I only encounter those difficulties when constructing a rough draft and put together the parts. In my opinion, the point of writing is well and skills that would be essential to apply in the future is to be detail-oriented, patient, and organized. The skills that I have gained in English 101, have affected my life by paying attention to the reasons people give to others in order to point out their intentions or persuasion. On the other hand, the improvements have taken shape by accomplishing to a tenacious argument with contrasting essay styles. Some examples would be, narrative, response, exemplification, compare/contrast, etc. To conclude, additional time is vital to generate an analysis of my own writing and focus on the sections which redirect to another text to create a bold statement or
Have you ever have had challenges while writing a paper for your teachers. Well throughout my first semester I was looking forward to learning how to write a paper without using incorrect grammar and run on sentences. In Composition I there were easy times and difficult times when I was going to give up. But I was consistence went to the teacher getting help when I did not understand the instructions. Also then there was times when the teacher was busy; so I received assistance from the other classmates.
For as long as I’ve been in English Course, I have struggled with writing. I can think about what I want to say in my paper but when I have to write it, it never turned out right. My main issues have been over-summarization of the points that I am attempting to make and not including any detail what-so-ever, providing smooth transitions into the next topics, and use of personal pronouns when writing essays.
When writing I forget to use commas, but now after writing several papers I don’t overlook them anymore. Another problem I had was that sometimes when I have to complete a word requirement or a page requirement, I add some fluff. I use some words that are useless in the essay, just to meet the requirement. Writing is just more than just meeting requirements, it takes time and effort. Before this class, I never really used to revise. Getting back my first grade, I realized that revision is important. This is what I learned about myself as a writer and with this class I have improved on some of these
Throughout this school year, I have written many different kinds of papers. Those different kinds of papers include narratives, analysis, and arguments. This year in English, I was very successful with some of the parts of my papers, but there were other parts I struggled with. I had some things like my introductions and the way I explained things that were great. But things like my conclusions and my transitions still needed some work. So, throughout this year I have been working to improve those things.
