Critics claim that by objectifying culture, public folklorists limit or deny the agency of the practitioners of traditions whom they represent. This article analyzes how public folklorists engage dialogically with community members to mutually shape frames of representation, while facilitating community cultural self-determination. Arguing against a view of objectification as categorically exploitative, I demonstrate how agency is pursued and accomplished through cultural representations that may entail objectification but generate benefits for community members as well as for folklorists.
With our modern day technology and ever changing society, it is important to keep folk cultures alive and not allow them to slip away. “Piecing it all Together” by bell hooks describes how she remembers her grandmother patiently and skillfully telling the story of her life through the art of sewing a tedious quilt. Chris Rose in his article “Let the Good Times Roll” depicts the tragedy, perseverance of a community, and the total comment from all to rise up and move on and celebrate their heritage and traditions. Folk cultures are the backbones that shape and mold every individual during their lifetime blending together traditions and skills, foods, beliefs, heritage and shared values that are taught and/or passed down from generation to generation, providing a common identity or direction for people within a family or community.
In arguing that anti-Confederate southerners played a central role in Confederate defeat, Freehling shifts historical debate to ground that is at once familiar and novel. Historians such as Drew Gilpin Faust and Paul Escott have identified internal disaffection as the primary cause of Confederate defeat while Gary Gallagher has suggested that whites in the Confederacy maintained their support for the government even as military losses ended the war.[1] The South vs. the South expands the scope of inquiry, looking beyond internal fissures within the Confederacy to the divisions in broader southern society. In Freehling's telling, anti-Confederate whites undermined the Confederacy by remaining outside the nation while slaves sapped Confederate
Mr Campbell Newman was a popular lord mayor as a member of the Liberal Party, who served the Queensland government for three years from 2012 – 2015 (Lewis, 2015). In the recent 2015 Queensland state election, Newman was heavily punished by the public voters of Queensland as a result of treating the public servants unfairly by cutting jobs in contrast to his promises. He also claimed that there would be no forced redundancies and that he would try to lower the unemployment rate, yet these promises were never met. In support of this, the following essay argues that Campbell Newman didn’t interfere with the free market economy of Queensland, which can be beneficial for consumers in many ways because there is no government intervention. Instead,
Two Latinas and a baby were stopped by security while grocery shopping, because another shopper accused the dark-skinned women of kidnapping the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde baby accompanying them. It was not until the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde father of the baby refuted the accusation, that the women were released. My mother (who is from El Salvador) and my nanny (who is from Belize) were the two women and I was the baby. My mom and nanny would not have been publicly incriminated and shamed, were they fair-skinned. McIntosh’s article substantiates the ubiquity of white privilege. White people do not have to worry about being monitored while running errands or being pulled over because of their skin color. I agree with McIntosh’s point
EJI argued in the United States Supreme Court that death-in-prison sentences imposed on children are unconstitutional, and the Court has now banned death-in-prison sentences for children convicted of non-homicide crimes and mandatory death-in-prison sentences for all children. Trial courts must conduct new sentencing hearings where judges will have to consider children's individual characters and life circumstances, including age, as well as the circumstances of the crime. The Supreme Court wrote that, because of "children's diminished culpability, and heightened capacity for change, we think appropriate occasions for sentencing juveniles to this harshest possible penalty will be

Ginger Adams Otis a writer for the NYC Daily News, has written about the contribution of Broadway to New York Culture and the Economy. However obvious, it is extremely relevant to discuss Broadway as a contribution to defining the culture within New York City and we will touch upon just that plus the contribution to the economy. Tickets: According to statistics from the New York City Daily News, Ginger Adams Otis writes that, there are 50,000 tickets sold each day- 100,000 on a Saturday matinee, 365 days a year. This is a phenomenal amount of tickets to be had all of 50,000 audience members which will fill Broadway. However, does New York City benefit from this in terms of the money spent? Let’s talk about the amount of dollars pumped back

This essay, by Sija Tsai, demonstrates in a historical chronology how the WFF (Winnipeg Folk Festival) changed its suggested definition of the folk through three decades. She explored this topic by exploring media coverage and administrator beliefs on the subject of the folklore presence at these festivals.
This paper will look at various scenarios which will be identified as an argument, an explanation or a description. In order to determine what each of these scenarios is, it would be best to understand what each category is.
It is not so simple to just enforce the evaluation. There are many challenges that come with it and that is possibly the reason why not enough attention paid to it. From the outset it should be acknowledged that seeking to place a value on the work public folklorist undertake is a difficult and frequently controversial task. There are challenges that come with defining and understanding certain terms; cultural and political issues involved. When we talk about “cultural” or “social” impact, how do we measure
The second aspect of development examined is cognition and development. School is also said to be the root of obesity, theoretically speaking under the learning perspective, the assumption that development is determined primarily by a child’s environment in this case school is true. If we look at this from Skinner’s operant conditioning theory children spend most of their time in schools. Therefore, it is reasonable to say that school plays an important part in the life of the child as it helps to mold them. Typically, the child goes to preschool from the age of 4 then continuously moves up to higher classes. One can say that everyday is the same routine, you wake up, prepare yourself to go to school, go to class, then lunch time comes. Depending
