Sports injuries are often thought of as being physically visible as soon as they happen. Many of these injuries are imagined to be bloody wounds, broken bones, or torn ligaments. Since injuries like the ones mentioned beforehand are visible with the naked eye, they are treated immediately and are not taken lightly. Concussions, on the other hand, are head injuries that cannot be seen with the naked eye. This is what makes concussions more frequent and dangerous to athletes. Concussions are “traumatically induced physiological disruption of brain function that can be caused by either a direct blow to the head or by indirect forces transmitted to the head” (Johnson 181). The symptoms of a concussion include, but are not limited to, headache, dizziness, loss of balance, and blurred vision (McCrea, Hammeke, Olsen, Leo, and Guskiewicz 15). Some patients may not experience any symptoms. Concussions cannot be diagnosed without extensive medical procedures so they are often overlooked. The effects of concussions are often mentally and physiological rather than physical. According to Dr, Syd Johnson, “concussions can result in deficits in attention and concentration, reaction time, processing speed and memory, and executive function” (Johnson 181).

Los Cenzontles is a band, a nonprofit organization, a music academy, a community space for youth and families as well as a hub for Latino artists. The group works together to amplify Mexican roots in the Bay Area and beyond. Los Cenzontles produces original music, videos, and educational tools. They also teach classes in traditional Mexican music, dance, and arts and crafts. The group operates Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center in San Pablo, California. Dr. Lopez and Dr. Morrison were able to bring this band to Sonoma State University Weill Hall, especially for our CALS 165 class.

I am currently a 3rd year nursing student at Ryerson University and have recently become extremely interested in physiotherapy. This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to work with the University Health Network as a Patient Observer, where I was able to discuss with many physiotherapists about the nature of their jobs. Every physiotherapist spoke with the utmost positivity when discussing their position even after numerous years of practice. This inspired me to pursue my goal of becoming a physiotherapist in the future as it is something I am very passionate about.

I strongly believe that a disease caused the accusations. I believe this because it is the only scenario out of the four that made sense to me. In the scenario, it said that a fungus called Ergot was somehow consumed and caused a disease. The symptoms that were experienced were pinching, biting, burning, seizures, and hallucinations. All of the symptoms the girls felt were all symptoms of Ergot. The girls all saw witches and nobody else did which means they were hallucinating because of the Ergot. Finally, Ergot grows in damp and marshy-like environments and Salem happens to lie near marshes and swamps. Therefore, I think that Ergot caused the girl's’ accusations.
