My interest for the Attorney Advisor position with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) arises from my longstanding commitment to constantly improve myself. I have always enjoyed legal research, writing, and the complexities of intellectual property. I have no doubt that my enthusiasm to research, my eagerness to learn, and my strong ability to communicate clearly, work efficiently, accurately, and quickly, will make me an invaluable asset to the USPTO. I believe these traits combined with my unique skillset, developed as a result of experiences working for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (Diamondbacks), Nike Inc. (Nike), and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Liability Management Department (AG Office) …show more content…
I received high praise regarding my legal research and writing skills, and further improved my skills through conducting legal research on narrow issues of litigation and though drafting legal memorandums. Moreover, one of my supervising attorneys in the Trademark Department was a former USPTO Attorney Advisor. She supervised my activities concerning intellectual property memo’s, utility and patent research, and research on trademark legislation. My externship at the AG Office exposed me to the interworking’s of a government agency. As an employee of the state every detail is particularly scrutinized and it is of the utmost importance that quality work be exhibited. At the AG Office I continued to impress my supervisors with my diligence, impressive legal research, writing skills, and through drafting legal memorandums and motions in limine. Moreover, I quickly adapted and learned about specific duties entailed upon me as a legal extern, and executed those duties, which included assisting attorneys with discovery proceedings, jury instructions, and any matters arising from preparation of jury trials. 1) Demonstrate your knowledge of legal principles and skills in applying legal principles. The subject of law always fascinated me. Unlike medicine, the practicalities of the subject do not dampen my passion for the subject but rather fuel it. Law is engaging because it requires constant adapting and analyzing. With every case comes a unique set of issues. The challenge of having to work within the bounds of the law while also planning a compelling and forceful case for a client is thrilling. Every word holds tremendous power in law. Practicing law requires eloquence. Anecdotal stories are the hallmark of the best lawyers. There exists no third person perspective in law. I admire how good lawyers can form a message that appeals to people’s emotions and reason. I relish the opportunity to study every minute detail of law and become a practicing lawyer because of all the ways it would challenge me.
The Attorney General of Texas is a position charged to uphold Texas law and the Texas Constitution; represent the State in litigation; and approve public bond issues. However, the fundamental goal of the office is to guard the rights of Texans through various divisions of the agencies. These divisions are responsible for consumer health, safety, and regulations, as well as, protection of elderly and disabled individual rights. As a summer law clerk at the attorney general’s office I will conduct legal research and draft memoranda under the supervision of an agency attorney. My first choice with the agency is the criminal prosecutions division. In the event I am placed in that division I may have the opportunity to assist in discovery and attend hearings or trials. However, I also asked to be placed in the following divisions: consumer protection, administrative, and general litigation.

Throughout the year I dealt a vast amount of files on behalf of the clients. Following negotiation with customers to arrange an affordable payment, when unable to achieve settlement or agree repayment, I was required to carry out litigation procedures plans. The most desired outcome was to deliver the best possible service to our clients in a professional and efficient manner, to ensure the desired outcomes were delivered.

As I look at my future in law school and my eventual career as an Assistant U. S. Attorney (AUSA), I am forced to ask myself, “How will I achieve all of this?”. I started this path all the way back in high school, although then it was a road to a different goal. At first, I wanted nothing more than to be a prosecuting attorney and to argue in court. I prepared myself as best I could during my undergraduate years. I took extra courses and had several legal internships to help prepare me for my journey. However, as I have grown as a person and experienced more of the legal system, my career goals have grown as well. Upon learning more about the federal courts, I aimed my sights higher for my career goals, to become an AUSA.

Since the very first patent issued, the public’s demand for patent protection steadily increased. In 2008, the USPTO had over one million pending patent applications. The USPTO sought to increase its workforce by 1,200 employees per year in order to meet this growing demand. It is important to learn that it is not significant that the lawyer must have the special knowledge, training and other prior experience to handle all kinds of legal problems of any type to which the lawyer is found to be unfamiliar. The key significant idea in this regard is that even a newly admitted lawyer could have the required competence as that of a practitioner who havethe long years’ experience. Still, in case of any emergency, the lawyer has
