Designing and Planning Agricultural Extension Program for Improving Disabled Agricultural Workers’ professional life in developing countries (Egypt)- derived from existing Projects. Background Selecting this topic is not a random choice. It was a result of profound and long thinking about which area would be the most convenient to my interests, my background, and rural society needs. Consequently, getting a Ph.D. in this area will give me the opportunity to lead several scientific types of research that will, hopefully, contribute to improving and developing the international rural community. Moreover, it will be a positive step to enter the new concept (Establishing a supportive program for disabled agricultural workers) to Egypt, my …show more content…
Moreover, I am seeking to explore what differences that assistive technology has made for them. Thus, I hope that my thesis ‘findings would help me to continue my Ph.D. degree in planning an agricultural program that attempts to serve and meet disabled agricultural workers’ work needs, especially for developing countries such as Egypt. This program will be planned based on integrating and synthesis of the implemented guides and outcomes from the following proposed projects: State AT Act Project in U.S., AgrAbility Project in U.S., and Manitoba Farmers with Disabilities in Canada. This proposed extension planning program for disabled agricultural workers will be beneficial in multi-directions. The first direction is helping to disseminate the AgriAbility projects’ concept and idea to the developing countries, particularly in Egypt, my home country. Second, it could be presented to a special agricultural organization such as Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO) in Egypt as a proposal for implementing an agricultural program for disabled agricultural workers. The last direction is that this planning program will contribute to evolving a new program theory of change that could be matched and adopted by different agricultural setting such as in Egypt. Methodology and Planning I am thinking to conduct a mixed method; a qualitative and a
The National Agro-Food policy has incorporated strategies that are in line with the nutritional aspects of the food system. The programs implemented under the policy include increased food production through optimization and sustainable land, development and upgrading agriculture infrastructure and increase the quality and safety of food by expanding the compliance of standard. Efforts have also been taken to strengthen human capital and to ensure sufficient skill labor force in the agricultural sector. This includes the use of modern technology and mechanization to reduce the dependency of manpower. The government also provides sector-based incentives to encourage the private sector to invest in the agriculture and agro-based industry.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers food assistance programs that help provide food for low to no income families. It is their goal to increase food security and reduce hunger by increasing access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education for low-income Americans (Caswell, 2013, para. 1). Some of the current nutrition assistance programs include “the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)”(Caswell, 2013, para. 1). SNAP will be the primary nutrition assistance program of the paper at hand. No matter how morally good it is to try to help reduce hunger and increase food security within the United States, there are still many questions regarding issues with SNAP. This paper will be discussing why there is such a strong support for the program, how it helps the United States as a whole, problems with the program, and why some people are against SNAP.
Education is a powerful tool and, when used correctly, it has the power to teach someone a new skill, transform his or her perspective, and encourage personal growth and development. Throughout this country, numerous agricultural education programs help students to learn more about and deepen their understanding of one of this nation’s most valuable industries: the agricultural industry. Most importantly, these programs play a major role in helping to combat the lack of
People with disabilities suffer discrimination such as the refuse of companies to hire those peoples. An estimated 386 million of the world’s working-age persons have some kind of disability, according to ILO. In a recent research, they found that two-third of the unemployed and disable persons said that they would like to work but they could not find jobs.
There is no doubt that urban agriculture has many benefits people who are living in urban area especially fixing the food insecurity problem. According to the USDA Economic Research Service (2016), food insecurity can happened when a household loss access to fresh foods due the lack in social and low economic. When the population of people concentrated in an area with bad economic situation increases, it will later affects the employment opportunities and food insecurity might be a critical issue. This is supported by a
1. Railroads- Railroads in each area were often controlled by one company, enabling those railroads to charge what they wanted. Railroads were the only way for many western farmers to get their produce to market and high prices were always charged. Railroads controlled storage, elevators, and warehouses so the prices the farmers paid were very high.
The price per acre of farm land doubled to $2,140 over the last 10 years. A lack of health care also hurts farmers as farming ranks as the fourth most dangerous occupation in the country, and young farmers often must choose between health care and paying for their farm. All of these obstacles and more make farming a difficult occupation to enter. We need organizations such as Young Farmers’ to provide support, education and training to help our nation’s most important
Group 1. Newcomer Syrian with disabilities are in real need to use assistive technologies, which are software and hardware that people with disabilities use to improve interaction with life situations. These people can be employee if they find the right training.
The National Postsecondary Agriculture Students organization was established in March of 1980 by Draft Bylaws and is designed to meet the needs of college students in agricultural related fields (PAS, About PAS). From there it has continued to grow and developed. What once started out as a small organization has now expanded to having a total of approximately 1,400 members from 62 chapters located in 18 different states (PAS, About PAS). This organization is made available to students in approximately 650 institutions located in all 50 states (PAS, PAS Handbook). Part of the financial support comes from the membership fees that are paid either by a chapter or an individual basis (PAS, About PAS).
I am a disabled father of 6 children, attempting to discover a way to keep up with societies rapid pace. I am educated in several vocational skills, but the visual disability I live with deters me from practicing successful employment at the labor levels of my experiences. By pursuing a degree in business administration more doors will be potentially open for me to explore operating a business of my own as a sole-proprietership. However, tuition for school seems to be a potential setback from getting started. Operating a self-sufficient green farmer seems like the route of business that I will be able to manage. With the curriculum I have my abilities to handle most operations has already increased. I have already achieved a gain in my self-awareness from achieving excellent grades. If possible, furthering my education goal to include additional courses may help in developing my business plan.
I suggest you get some college degree incase farming doesn’t work out. Something like a agriculture Business Management which is a bachelor's degree. You will have to take Human Cultures Humanities, Human Cultures Behavioral, Science Information Literacy, Science one and Science two, Technology, Society Written Communication, and Oral Communication Quantitative Reasoning. You must have a 2.0 GPA, 32 Upper division credits taken from Purdue, 9 credits International Understanding, 3 credits Multicultural Awareness, 9 credits of Social Sciences outside the College of Agriculture to get the degree.("Agricultural
The agriculture field is one of the biggest employers, employing over 155 million people in the United States. What do you think about when you hear the word “agriculture?” Many people would say farming, but this is not the most common occupation in this field. Farmers make up a fraction of the agricultural jobs at 900,000, but over 2.1 million people own, rent, and claim farming as a primary source of income. The average farm size has dropped from 460 acres in 1990 to 418 acres in 2007, while the average age of this occupation rose to 57, making this one of the older workforces in the United States.
Self-Help International has a variety of projects in third world countries. These projects have several objectives that they address including training small-scale farmers to improve their methods of farming and transportation. They are also assisting in dealing with post-harvest problems of storage, processing, and marketing. Another objective is training people in the use of Quality Protein
Agriculture was the most important economic activity in America from the founding of Virginia in 1607 to about 1890. Although farming declined rapidly in relative economic importance in the twentieth century, U.S. agriculture continued to be the most efficient and productive in the world. Its success rested on abundant fertile soil, a moderate climate, the ease of private land ownership, growing markets for farm produce at home and abroad, and the application of science and technology to farm operations.
