The reason I believe I am qualified to be a member of Spanish Honor Society is because of the extensive amount of experience I have in clubs and groups very similar to it. Some of these include but are not only student senate, key club, National Honor Society, and the honor roll. Through hard work and always putting academics first I have been able to do well in my classes and competitions like BPA, and I know that I can be a good role model for other students academically. With my involvement in student senate and different sports and clubs I also have a very good connection with the rest of my classmates and can act maturely. Lastly through my time in National Honor Society, Key Club, and going to Xavier I have had plenty of experience doing service. Lately I have also grown an interest in taking the time to learn the Spanish language, and not just study little sections I need to know for the certain tests. “Learning another language assists in the development of critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and memory,” according to Connecticut State Department of Education. In fact, students who studied a second language have had higher scores on standardized test such as the ACT and/or SAT. Someone might ask why should we learn a new language we are Americans everyone should learn English. However, most people who speak English that learn to speak a second language have better listening skills and greater understanding of their native language.
Once you learn a second language well enough, it is said that learning a third or fourth is easier (2). Two languages are better than one. Also, luckily for second language learners, two significant by-products of bilingualism are better cognitive skills and longer attention spans (4). Having those two elements would greatly help with testing, especially standardized exams. Knowing more than one language also increases your job opportunities. Employers are constantly showing interest in bilingual workers. Its beneficial because not everyone who lives in the United States speaks English. It appeals to employers because it makes you seem smarter. Also, as stated above many high schoolers don’t retain the language. Since the 1960s, studies have shown that the best time to begin the study of a foreign language is in elementary school (3). To integrate yourself as a dynamic world citizen, learning a new language like Spanish would open up new opportunities to you. It can bring about a change for better in your life, in various aspects including travel, career, friendship, love, and adventure.
The first reason that we shouldn’t need to learn Spanish is because of the slim possibilities that we would need to know the language. For example, if you would go to a Spanish speaking country for a vacation or a mission trip, you should know some Spanish. In the same way, Spanish speakers should learn English so that they understand us. It should be a choice for kids or for the parents of the students. I say this because if the child has no intention to be majoring in a job that is necessary to learn Spanish like a doctor or a nurse. In the United States, there is only one third of one percent of the population that is a doctor. There are not many jobs that is necessary to learn it either.
Not many languages possess subtle nuances, beautiful pronunciation, and rhythmic speech patterns. Spanish possesses all three. Throughout my entire life, I have always wanted to speak and understand Spanish. Passing phrases and conversations would captivate my mind and give me a brief insight into the culture behind the language. So, pressing forth to help achieve this goal I enrolled in Spanish in college. Spanish is important to me and has changed my outlook on life because of the benefits it offers, the doorway it has opened for intercultural connections, and the general act of learning the language.

From personal experiences I think that learning a second language has helped me think differently however i also make some mistakes. I know numbers, colors, alphabets, telling time, and basic conversations fluently because i learned it from when i was in kindergarten however i sometimes struggle with having a more complex conversation being that i started learning it when i got in 8th grade. When I first started learning more complex spanish it beleaguered me; however, I actually love Spanish now. Learning spanish is now inalienable because it is so essential to me. Being that I am learning a spanish language i do not think i am more intelligent that a monolingual person. When I get old enough to work I will not discriminate against fluent spanish speakers because i could bond with them and build a relationship. There’s really no reason not to learn another language. Even if you like you feel like one language is enough for you, or you feel like you are smart enough, and find your pay suitable, wouldn’t you at least like to stave off memory loss and make better
Only 8% of Americans, even claim to be able to have a conversation in the languages most of them learned in school. (Rational Conspiracy) But, taking Foreign Languages is important because you have a better profound understanding of someone else’s culture just by knowing their language. “Also, Creativity is increased with the study of foreign languages. Graduates often cite foreign language courses as some of the most valuable courses in college because of the communication skills developed in the process”.(auburn university) In conclusion, foreign languages provide a better possibility of getting into colleges and getting a job. Taking the course earlier in life is better for later on so you don’t have to in the future and know what you're doing or communicating without

Humans communicate with one another using an array of languages, each differing from next in a variety of ways. Whether it is verbal or non-verbal communication, languages have a set of rules to connect words or ideas to form statements and questions. Learning different languages allows individuals to not only learn various ways of communicating, but it also helps individuals to learn about cultures and mannerisms. Since the beginning of freshman year in high school, I devoted myself to learning Spanish. Not only did my high school Spanish classes teach me the language, but they have taught me ways in which I can better myself. Taking Spanish classes, has helped me to step out of my comfort zone and start a new process of learning, which has influenced me to become a better writer in the English language and it has helped me to become a better communicator as well.
Some students will take a second language course in their lifetime, but is it really worth the trouble? With so many different languages out there, there is such a wide variety to pick from. Some of the more common languages learned in the United States are Spanish and French, and it’s not uncommon to know a little bit of one or both of the languages from classes we took in high school. Yet, not all schools require a second language course. In regards of the 18% of Americans who reportedly speak a second language, Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education States, “That’s far short of Europe, where 53 percent of citizens speak more than one language. The United States may be the only nation in the world where it is possible to complete high school and college without any foreign language study.” (Brown) In the end, one may wonder if there is profit to requiring these classes and how useful they become to those who take them. Companies want to expand, meaning that language can become a barrier to their business; therefore, they require bilingual people. Being able to speak more than one language can help you get a promotion. For example, a company works with China, and one day during a meeting they realize that they can’t communicate with each other because of their language. This is your chance, you know mandarin and offer your help to translate, which
