CTE Issues—
Funding is always going to be an issue till they change the policies in the United States. Every school and program must be funded some way or another. The US needs to make a change with the school funding making sure it is going to all the right causes. The United States has seen funding and budget cuts year after year with no steady amount of funding for the programs. Leaving a serious situation to deal with when trying to progress as a country.
Employer and business leader engagement in design and support of effective pathways to careers. Texas has many polices with adding new programs into their system, however to have a successful education system getting the employers and community involved is huge. Countries that are

Many reasons why countries do not have the VET system is simply, because of funding. If the United States could make sure they always have the funding needed for the programs even in a crisis like Germany I believe there would be a huge uprising effort made with the US education system. CTE Policy—
Steady Funding in Texas would make an impact with the CTE system. Having a steady funding would make schools that are not involved with CTE programs have an ease into the system. Naturally the economy goes up and down daily, and yearly making the funding not as stable. Countries with the steady amount of funding have a huge increase in the VET and CTE programs as well as their education system is uprising. Germany has made remarkable efforts on the steady funding of the programs no matter if there is a crisis. I believe having this steady funding will not only help the state of Texas, but all the US education system programs.
An important role many forget is Employer engagement. Having companies, policies holders, and funders on the task for engagement of the CTE will Change the whole education program. Texas does have a few places of engagement of employers, however a few is just not enough. Having the employers help build up the economy as well as their useful help with the programs to help kickstart the programs of CTE workforce. Having these employers gives the
In the early 90’s a majority democratic Texas legislature debated on the equalizing school funds, but no plan was gained, mainly because it would require rising local and state taxes. Texas at the time having one of the nation’s highest taxes. The educational issue continued to face many special sessions in the Texas house, a new program was finally adopted that met the approval of the federal ruling. The new educational program shifted funding from local tax to state tax. While the program was
These expenditures are bad enough, but the situation quickly turns from workable to hopeless when considering the budget cuts that Texas schools must make over the next two years. Sean Cavanagh reveals the state’s pending cuts in the following quote: “State officials, facing a-two-year budget shortfall of anywhere between $15 billion and $27 billion, have proposed deep reductions in school spending” (Cavanagh). If Texas’ school budget gets cut $7.5 to $14 billion dollars a year (the $15 and $27 billion figures are based on two-year budgets), and more than a quarter of illegal immigrants live in Texas while the national calculated cost of educating said illegal students is $44.5 billion dollars, then it appears as if the illegal immigrants cost more than the budget cuts. This means that if illegal aliens were sent back home, Texas would not only be able to forget about budget setbacks, but would also be able to put a few billion dollars back into the struggling education system. Lest one forgets what most of these cuts will be made, Cavanagh estimates that “Texas school systems would be forced to cut between 80,000 and 100,000 jobs if the spending cuts took effect” (Cavanagh). What will happen to the education system if all the teachers are laid off?
rural areas, is in need of financial support that not only fund schools but can pay professionals who care about teaching. America can spend money to do a public education reform that paves the way for a better education for students. Paying for better teachers with higher requirements, than what’s currently accepted and paying for the safety of schools guarantee the United States a bright future. High expectations backed with a large fund work and retain high quality teachers can make a big difference. Not only are there too many of the students
CTE affects many different athletes all over the world. Chronic Traumatic encephalopathy or normally referred to as CTE is a brain disease that affects people who have had multiple head injuries. It is found in many cases of ex NFL players who took many hits to the head when playing over their careers. There are many documented cases of it across other sports and some military veterans as well. We have made large strides in learning more and more about the terrible disease. The game of football has changed since we have learned so much more about the terrible disease in recent years. We could prevent concussions by changing the way players practice.
The United States has many conflicts, one of them is funding on public education. Despite the fact that funding on public education will not help students succeed academically with the money provided to the schools, every school deserves to get as much money because students will receive more proper education and will be more successful students in the future.
Education development has been an important matter in Texas for decades. Texas has been known for their improvements and reformation in public schools since their first attempt of a public school system. Within these improvements, came issues that escalated to create our public education system today. The issues that helped arrange the system are desegregation, equity in funding, and education policy.
Texas students deserve better. Our state leaders must take action to restore all funding cuts to higher education and keep the dream of college alive for all Texas
Texas faces many problems with the current educational system and many of them continue to go unresolved due to the way Texas has established certain laws. A decline in education has been seen since 2006 when legislators decided to cut property tax which pays for education (Maule). Those policies only further hinder the progress of education improving, which is why policies like those do not need to be further implemented. More involvement with students is needed and that will be acquired by having more effective teachers. Many studies have shown that students with effective teachers do better in class than those with ineffective teachers. Not only do students do poorly with ineffective teachers, but “[s]tudies show that most students drop out due to poor academic performance. And studies have proven that the teacher in the
Many of the other financing problems come from individual districts that some times misuse money that could be used to better the quality of education. Assistant Attorney General Shelly Dahlberg, said that individual districts must also “show they are spending their money efficiently”. Superintendents spend too much on items that they seem to prioritize such as iPads and equipment for the sports departments and other extracurricular activities that aren’t required by the state. At times, they also base their teacher pay on seniority rather than student performance. If Texas were to stop overemphasizing on the local control of its school districts and were to hold individual districts responsible for not spending their money efficiently, there would be a lot less shortcomings and a lot more money directed into bettering the
The current state of the Texas education policy is very complex and its roots can be traced all the way back to times were there was no equality in the public school system, we can even say it can be traced as far back to the state’s split from Mexico. This was a very problematic situation that began to be reformed heavily starting in 1954. The legislations that passed to resolve this problem have morphed the Texas Public education policy into what it is today.
Texas does outperform other states in terms of economic growth and population growth. Many people move to Texas because of the jobs and they do taxes right. (Batheja, 2013) Gov. Rick Perry believes Texas’s performance through the recession is due to lack of income tax. He says “You can stop trying to figure out how to pay the state income tax, because we don’t have one.” (Batheja, 2013) The Tax Foundation, a conservative-leaning research group, ranks Texas ninth-best on its State Business Tax Climate Index, largely because of the state’s lack of an income tax. (Batheja, 2013) On the other hand, Texas’s high property taxes remains a crucial complaint among business and homeowners. It’s harder for small business to pay their taxes especially if their business wasn’t very profitable. Small business end up using their own personal savings, mortgages, or borrow money in order to pay their taxes. Having a state tax would benefit small business. Although having no state tax is accepted by many, it puts a dent on cities and towns. Local debt has increased over the past decade, in large part to cover the costs for new schools and public maintenance projects. (Batheja, 2013) The state is pushing projects such as building of highways and roads to cities and counties. (Batheja, 2013) In 2012, more than 500 lawsuits were from school districts arguing that our public education isn’t properly
Republicans in Texas offer free higher education to minorities that are here on work visas, which has always brought more votes for the Republican Party. More scholarships are awarded to minorities in Texas. The result of higher education allow minorities to receive more than minimum wage paying jobs. With these jobs minorities are able to get off of the welfare system. A large percentage of minorities find it easier to live off of the system that provides housing, food for the table, dental care, medical care, vision care, and care at the expense of tax payers. Without the option of higher education many minorities get involved with crime regarding gangs and drug issues statewide. When it comes to higher education, scholarships and grants are offered so more minorities get the education they deserve and/or need. According to texaseducationexcellence.org “[t]he Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education is a group of concerned citizens who believe strongly in the power of higher education to transform lives, build our economy and shape Texas’ future”. With more minorities receiving a higher education it allows all citizens of Texas to be equal. Having more people that are qualified to perform jobs that corporate companies are looking for will attract more companies down to Texas thus making the state more competitive, which creates more job opportunities.
To solve most of Texas’ education dilemmas, we must ensure that state legislature along with every candidate and sate leader restores all funding and supports education for all Texas students. We must invest in high quality education as population continues to grow. This will help set the stage and make dreams reachable for the future leaders of
To point out another way to fix school funding in Alabama would be to use a weighted school system. A weighted system puts a specific dollar amount for each student based on their poverty levels, special education and many other factors. The weighted system is a penny-pinching way to save extra money. Each school has a per-pupil budget, this is the amount of money they spend on each student. The dollar amount spent on each child is determined by the skills and characteristics that impact their learning the most. If this weighted system was used statewide, it would free up millions of
To Get A Better School System by Gene B. Preuss explores the journey of educational reform of Texas through one hundred years of inequality, threats, and disagreements. However, the Supreme Court decision regarding Morath vs. Texas Taxpayers has highlighted that even in 2016, additional reforms are needed. Funding for public education is not a new issue and has been a pressing matter since the creation of the Texas educational system. Throughout the process of educational reform, Texans have mainly fought over public education funding in regards to bridging the gap between the portion of funding spent on urban areas and the portion spent on rural areas as well as the small earnings that teachers make. Yet, another area of concern, as pointed out in the article “Texas Supreme Court Upholds School Funding System”, is the Texas Legislature which severely limits the number of available avenues that the state can take when addressing the issue of funding. Together, the past issues of how to fund education and the inequalities that arose in spending, combined with the current issue
