LR is an 43-year-old moderately obese African-American woman from Gautier, MS. She history of keloids and recently diagnosed in March with another keloid. I chose this case because I felt her diagnosis was interesting because we had just learned about this disease in class. When I first learned that my clinical site had a keloid case I was excited to learn about the planning process. Keloids are a benign condition that is result of an overgrowth of fibrous tissue that usually develops after healing of a skin injury. The tissue continues to grow extends beyond the borders of the original wound. They can appear anywhere on the body, but usually form on the shoulders, head and neck. They can last for years and sometimes don't form until months or years after the initial injury. It can happen to anybody, but is more common in people with dark skin, such as people from African, African-Caribbean and south Indian communities. It's thought that keloid scarring may run in families. New keloid scars are sometimes red or purple. They're not usually painful, but some people feel a tingling or itchy sensation. Many people also get embarrassed or …show more content…
The goals and side effects such irritation within treatment field, dry or moist peeling, possible blistering, telangiectasis, and hyperpigmentation of area were discussed. The early onset of these symptoms due to the combination of the treatments were also reviewed with the patient. Surgery was performed on April 8, followed by radiation therapy on April 9. Treatment dose includes using an electron block cutout, using an energy of 12E along with a 1.5 cm bolus. She was prescribed 3fx at 400 cGy per fraction with a total dose of 1200 cGy. A wing board with C-headrest and vac-loc was used for patient immobilization along with the hand ring and permanent anterior tattoos for
4. The patient was advised to start loratadine 10 mg daily now for itching and also to use 5 or 10% benzoyl peroxide for facial acne.
This surgeries were done with the purpose of stopping the tumor. However, she later found out that the tumor was not curable and that it will eventually continue to develop giving her a prognosis of 6 months to live.
Keloid disorder is a genetic condition of the skin. Some individuals are born with the tendency to develop keloids and this does not happen unless there is an injury to the skin. The underlying genetics of Keloids is not well understood. From all we know, and much like most other genetic conditions, there is a wide spectrum to the genetic susceptibility to develop keloids with some individuals suffering from a very mild form of this genetic condition, to those with very
A keloid or keloid scar is a sort of overgrown scar, or a scar that forms from abnormal healing. Keloid is a type of thick, rough scar that generally rises above the skin level and extends further than the original wound boundaries. This skin condition mostly develops in people who are between 10 and 20 years old.
After 5 month of chemotherapy, she lost 10kg. This may due to the complication of chemotherapy and radio therapy. Due to this, she might be under risk of malnutrition. Considering her nutrition and mobility, her pressure ulcer risk assessment and fall risk assessment both states minimal risk. Before the surgery, patient was prescribed laxative for bowel preparation pre operation. Thus patient may pay attention to her stoma and change her stoma bag more frequently.
Kyphosis is a forward adjusting of the back. Normally has a forward curve of 20 to 40 degrees. Some adjusting is typical, however the expression "kyphosis" for the most part relates to a misrepresented adjusting of the back. While kyphosis can happen at any age, it's most regular in more older women. Age-related kyphosis frequently happens after osteoporosis debilitates spinal issues that remains to be worked out point that they split. Different sorts of kyphosis are found in newborn children or young children because of mutation of the spine or wedging of the spinal bones after some time. A kind of kyphosis that happens in youthful teens is known as Scheuermann’s disease. It is brought on by the wedging together of a few bones of the spine (vertebrae) consecutively. The reason for this condition is still unknown. One specific kind of kyphosis is Scheuermann's kyphosis, otherwise called Scheuermann's ailment. A radiologist initially found Scheuermann's in the mid-1920s, and the condition is named after him. Scheuermann's kyphosis is described by wedge-molded vertebrae that cause the thoracic spine to bend forward excessively.
This improved the appearance of the exfoliation and the erythroderma, however the patient experienced significant rebound flaring when the dose was tapered as low as 20 mg. The patient continued to have burning and stinging pain of the skin throughout the treatment course. The respiratory symptoms have overall resolved, though he continues to have stable radiographic findings of organizing pneumonia. At the time of publication the patient was preparing to initiate treatment with rituximab to further improve dermatologic and respiratory
The main strength in the study completed by Chakkittakandiyil et al. was that it demonstrated further clinical evidence of the safety and efficacy of topical timolol maleate. The study had several limitations. The procedures for digital photography were not uniformly standardized and the investigators were not blinded to duration of treatment. Topical timolol was shown to be an effective treatment for superficial IH with decreased risk of adverse events compared to oral beta-blockers. Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by the extracellular deposition of insoluble fibrillar proteins in the tissues and organs including the heart [1,2]. There are 3 major subtypes of cardiac amyloid: light chain amyloidosis, hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis and wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis, also called senile systemic amyloidosis (SSA). SSA is almost exclusively a disease of the elderly caused by the deposition of wild-type transthyretin fibrils predominantly in the myocardium leading to progressive heart failure, arrhythmia and conduction blocks [3]. Post mortem studies have shown that the finding of amyloid depositis (wild-type transthyretin) is not uncommon [4], however the actual prevalence is not known.

One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue perfusion refers to “decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level” (Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to “shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs are located,” such as the heart and the brain (Grossman & Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from
The patient declined debulking surgery and underwent external-beam radiation (6000 cGy in 30 fractions, with en face 8 MeV electrons).
Cry-therapy was used for one to two minutes every two weeks, which used a gas machine with a temperature of -94 degrees Celsius. Group A took on average of 36.71 days to get rid of all of the warts, without any side effects or symptoms afterwards. Group B took on average of 52.17 days to get rid of all but 1 warts, which consisted of having side effects. The side effects of the Cryo-therapy (group B) was pain in all 24 patients (1 patient in each group quit the study), 3 had infections, 10 had a reddening of the skin such as patches, and 2 had scars. “It was found that use of treatment regime of adapalene (0.1%) with occlusion has reduced duration of clearance of warts in these patients (P<0.05).” (scientific journal) In conclusion, it was found that group A that received adapalene with occlusion ended with 100% achievement rate compared group B which was treated with cryo-therapy which had side effects afterwards and didn’t have a 100% achievement rate. The only complaint from the topical adapalene was that some patients didn’t like having to apply the plastic wrap daily because it made a mess
