I was first taught how to play at the age of five and I developed a wholehearted passion for the sport from that point forward. With my passion I was able to develop into an exceptional player, ultimately leading to my position as a soccer coach for a non-profitable organization called OSC, the Oakville Soccer Club. OSC is a group whose objective is to introduce, develop and promote soccer within my local community. They help children improve their soccer abilities by teaching them the fundamental basics within a fun and safe environment. I offered to volunteer as a coach for this group and was quickly accepted, as I wanted to give back to the community that had helped me. Initially, it was difficult teaching the kids as I was new to coaching, but as time progressed I was able to foster relationships with the players. As I became closer within my group, I started to gain more confidence and started to use my past experiences in camps to mimic my own lessons. Eventually as the weeks progressed, players would inform me about their progress, stating that they had transformed into a professional like soccer player. I experienced a feeling of happiness because I was able to help them achieve their desired
Well I finally discover the true love and passion I have for soccer two years later when I was 8 years old. My parents finally decided to put me in a team called “Princess” I would go to every practice and always tried to get my parents in the car at time so we would never be late to games. I played defence and scraped my knees sometimes trying to get the ball out of our side. But I never knew what I was actually capable of until my coach had a job and had to leave coaching for a while and one my teammates parent decided to step in. I was so use to playing defence but he wanted to make things different and he believe I would do even better at forward. The next game I played forward score every single goal winning the game I never understood why people seem so happy to score until that day. Seeing the ball slowly roll in the back of the net and every single parents and kids raise from their seats and start clapping nonstop and screaming my name has been the most amazing feeling I have felt in my
Known as The Golden Age in English history, the 45 year rule of Queen Elizabeth I turned the declining country of England, into one of the most powerful and prosperous countries in the world.
I will engage in research, acquire hands-on experience, and apply what I learned in class in real life scenarios to make an impact on people’s lives. I will partake in service opportunities like my current roles in NHS and FNHS. My personality will benefit those around me. Honors College will place me in courses with exceptional students who are dedicated and focused. They will push my performance as a student. Even now, classmates gauge their performance with mine and vice versa. As a result, they motivate me to catch up or stay ahead of the competition. Competition is the catalyst for improvement. Likewise, I always encourage my peers to do their best, for I want to see individuals succeed. Moreover, there is no point enrolling in classes that won’t challenge me; where I am perched at the top. There is no intellectual growth there. Whereas, challenging courses and talented students help establish high goals for me. This symbiotic relationship between my peers and I will springboard us to greater
Because I have identified several tools given to me – and that I am aware of my purpose, I can now set goals. My most immediate short-term goals as a college student include: becoming proficient at balancing my time well, soaking up the information that I am being taught, making great grades, serving my community, traveling and studying abroad, and attaining internships and scholarships.
There were so many children interested in playing and the league was getting very competitive. Two men, Jordan and Ashley, heard about our town program and sought it out as an opportunity to bring an elite soccer club to Montclair with trained coaches from England. The first year the team formed, many people weren’t interested in joining. Parents were not comfortable with the idea of random people training their six-year-old child and thought the program was too much at such a young age. The town league was familiar to them and the coaches were their friends. However, my dad thought playing with a professional coach was a great idea and signed me up right away. There were no tryouts or evaluations; a player just put their name down on a sheet of paper and they made the
The coach was a male as usual, friendly and skilled. I was excited but fearful at the same time. The sense of people watching me while I was on the field put a shake in my heart because I did not want to look foolish. We practiced hard every day to prepare for our first game. After a month of practice, the game was scheduled. When I arrived at the field, the crowd was giving me confidence and hope. I went on the field as a striker-my favorite position. Everyone had the choice of the position they had the desire for. I had wanted to be striker because I had the desire to be the person who scores. Being a striker is the hardest position on the field; I had to be fast, and my accuracy had to be perfect. Our first match did not go well; the other team had scored multiple goals. My team lost every game. The season ended quickly in shame and
The exceptional reign of Queen Elizabeth I stands out in British history. Her reign is one of the longest in British history. Under her rule Britain began to gain strength because her policies laid the groundwork for the future rulers to build upon. The previous rulers of England, such as Queen Mary I, created turmoil through their policies which their personal beliefs influenced greatly. Elizabeth I’s reign remained relatively stable and she implemented new political policies that helped to strengthen Britain. Elizabeth I’s rule marked a turning point in British history when Britain began its ascension to becoming a present day world power. Improvements in politics, the economy, the military, and foreign affairs along with progress
It is an honor to apply for the Athena Scholarship. I am presently enrolled in the Biology/Biotechnology Honors program in the University of Windsor. I hope to become a medical doctor. I strongly believe that my career of choice will enable e to fulfill my desire to help others. My participation in various extracurricular activities and invaluable volunteer experience has constantly shaped the way I view people and the environment around me. My academic life is no exception; my mantra in any learning situation I find myself is to strive for academic excellence and push boundaries.
Knowing that your camp offers general activities such as arts and crafts, music and games as well as more specialized programming like skating, visual arts, dance and sports, I believe that my skills that I have gained will be an asset to this position. Starting out with my time on the Outdoor Boys’ Soccer Team at my school, it has allowed me to experience what it feels like to be part of a group. To add on, being coached by my coach showed me ways that I should be as a person when I work with a group of students. This experience got me to become a volunteer at the Scarborough Town YMCA. From September 2014, I have assisted a soccer coach for a Youth and Teen soccer club. Here I embraced and improved on my leadership skills while working with the youth and teens as I coached them on soccer drills.
What I learned from soccer, as well as during group assignments at school, is the importance of leading by example, to communicate and motivate others through positive reinforcement, and to guide others who are struggling. Feeling sorry or blaming others is not the answer. I also learned that we can accomplish much more if we turn frustration to encouragement, negativity to positivity, and individual actions to group efforts. I recognize that these elements are essential to succeed in life as well. Going into my 9th year of competitive soccer, I understand that accountability, communication, and trust are invaluable traits that lead to success, and I will continue to rely on them to lead my team. I also plan to apply the same guiding principles in college and eventually in the workplace, and hope to positively influence and lead others along my
I would like to make my family proud by being the first girl in the family to graduate as an engineer. Then, with the help of my degree, will be able to provide for my family after all the years they will help to support me and my studies. Academically, I wish to maintain a high grade in most of my courses by being diligent in class and staying focused. I also wish to be balanced and learn how to manage my time efficiently to keep up socially and academically. Socially, I wish to have the same friends I met in my first semester and to one day be part of the SGA to help new students feel as comfortable and happy in university. By being part of the SGA, not only will I be helping students but it will be a way of giving back to the university whether it is by organizing campus events or being a role model to other students. Also during my four years, I would like to be involved in the study abroad program for a semester just learn something and experience different cultures and people. Overall, I hope to achieve success at AUD and give back to my family, friends, professors, the faculty, and the
During my freshmen year, I was approached by a teacher about joining the newly put together special ed soccer team. Training started after school where we practiced goals, kicks, passes, and ran a mile. We were lucky to receive the training and help of 3 coaches, one that worked with the other soccer team, a gym teacher, a normal special ed teacher. This contributed to the foundation of our teamwork and skill. There were helpers otherwise normal soccer players who volunteered their time and acted as sparring partners and trainers. The helpers were allowed to play on the team to create balance and show off a diversity of skill levels. After training ended we played tournaments against a few other schools such as bingham, lone peak, mountain view.
Queen’s University is located in a university town, Kingston. It has a distinct culture that allows everyone to feel connected to one other. There is also a wide variation of the places students come from, even within Canada – Vancouver to New Brunswick. Most of the students live far from home, often adjusting oneself to the new environment. By this, Queen’s students are already taking a step in becoming a world citizen, making their AIESEC journey less challenging compared to other LCs.
Many people believe in this idea that a fifteen year old girl should not be coaching a younger group of kids. I however strongly disagreed and I took that chance to step up and help the younger children in my community learn the game of soccer. Three years later majority of these children are still playing. For all the hate that parents gave towards me, I realize now that it was all worth it. Some scoffed at the idea that a "kid" was coaching the team, well that "kid" took time away from doing other things. I could have been hanging out with friends or doing school work but I saw that members of my community had children and even other younger relatives that wanted to play the game.
King Henry VIII wanted a son. He had been married for seventeen long years and had only been given a daughter named Mary. Someday one of his children would rule England and it was supposed to be a boy. Henry decided he wanted a younger wife who could bear many children, so he formed his own church and re-married Anne Boleyn. This began the life of Elizabeth.
