Did you know that about 40% of Americans can trace at least one of their ancestors back to Ellis Island? Our name changed from O’Taggart to Taggart. That 324,459,463 million people is the entire population of the U.S. That is only about 162,229,732 people that can actually trace their ancestors back to Ellis Island.
Well… the family tree on the Taggart’s side of the family is extremely big, and it all started with one special woman. That one special woman is my Great-Grandma Colleen. She has 6 kids with her husband Pat; Randy, Ron, Bev, Patricia, Rosanna, and Steven. Great-Grandma lives in spearfish currently. She is nice, funny, caring, and very helpful. It was always fun going up to see her, she had a big empty lot and a big house. Even though just this last year she moved to apartments and sold the house and the big lot. It is still fun to go and see her.
Great-Grandma’s second oldest son is my grandpa Ron. Grandpa I a very hard worker and good at getting

Grandma Kathy is my mom’s mom, the wife to Grandpa Ron. She raised six children with Grandpa Ron. Desi, Josi, Heath, Brent, Brady, and Amanda; are the six children. Grandma is smart with money, my sister Kyran and I call the house the ‘Bank on the Hill.’ My Grandma Kathy used to work at a bank, and Dairy Queen. Her maiden name was Springer. Kevin is my Grandma’s brother. They all say that I look just like him, but I don’t see the resemblance. Grandma is very calm and will help you if you need some help.
So you wanted to know about some of my family history. My Grandparents have worked extremely hard for what they have got and don’t take any of it for granted. They all have been good role models, and have set good examples for us Grand-Kids. Even though they have dug some holes for themselves they all have dug themselves back out of that hole, and came back stronger. Now they have made it possible for us not to make the same mistakes that they have

A brief background of my family will provide some meaning to our family structure. My parents were both born and raised in Muncie, Indiana at a time when the economy was not strong. My father was the fourth of five siblings in a household dominated by a physically abusive and alcoholic father. My mother lost both of her parents at a young age. I would learn later in life that my father
Prior to World War II, Robert and Bessie’s close relatives literally meant family that lived nearby, most of whom were kin to Bessie. The only relatives of Robert’s that resided in or near Bradley was his brother and business partner, Harry and his wife, Flossie. In addition to Bessie’s parents, Merritt and Mary Kirby, other members of her close extended family were Bessie’s sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and John Madden, her brother and sister-in-law, Emmett and Nellie Kirby, and numerous nephews and nieces. Particularly significant among these relatives was their niece,
This family changed my life for the better and assisted me in growing as a
The family is made up of the Grandmother and her son Bailey, and his children John Wesley, June Star and the baby, and there is also the mother of his children. O 'Connor uses clues in devious ways, that doesn 't ruin the readers thoughts. She uses foreshadowing FOUR major times throughout the story: the grandmas clothes, her words, the death of her family and the conversation with the misfit. The grandma, who is the protagonist in this short story tries to persuade her son and his wife to vacation somewhere other than Florida because an escaped convict is headed to the same place they are. "Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he did to these people. Just you read it. I wouldn 't take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it. I couldn 't answer to my conscience if I did."
Grandma Sands, who is Mrs. Watson’ s mother, is another symbol of family because she was the one that brought that brought the Watson family closer together. When the Watsons arrive in Birmingham and all meet Grandma Sands Kenny explains, “ Dad came upon the porch and got a ton of hugs and tears too, then Grandma Sands pulled everybody together. Her little arms could only get around one person at a time but as the weird Watsons stood there with some of us laughing some of us crying and some of us looking cool, it felt like we all were wrapped in a big ball.” (159-160). Because Grandma Sands is another symbol of family, it helps the reader understand that reuniting or being with family makes everyone feel safe and happy together. This illustrates the author’s message that being together with family is important because family is always there to support you and that causes the feeling of safety with each other. It is important to understand that family makes you feel safe because they are always there for
Unfortunately, after years of marriage, Uncle Mack ran off with a floozie and moved to Florida. He deserted his wife and still had two children at home. I have to hand it to him though, he stayed with his second wife until she died even though she was verbally abusive and mean spirited. I know Uncle Mack regretted how he had left his family and so I figure he felt like he deserved the treatment he got from his second wife. He moved back to Bradford and had his place until he got cancer. Uncle Mack moved in with one of his daughters, and she and her husband took care of him, and I believe he made peace with his children before he died. It is a smaller town, and he would walk to Aunt Birdie’s apartment and visit with her. They never got back together, but they became friends, and their children buried them together. Aunt Birdie had a difficult childhood as did Mack. As a child, a family member thru her into a cold pond or stream. She already had a cold or the flu, and her ears were damaged, and as a result, she was almost deaf. She had to wear hearing aids in both ears and still had difficulty hearing. Uncle Mack was on the tall side, black hair, dark skin, brown eyes and heavier built than Grandpa Shelton. He would make up stories that would make you think twice before deciding it would not be possible. I suppose you would call them tall tales. I remember once we were going down the road he told a story about a
My great grandfather, Sanford Robert Gragg, was an extraordinary man. Although I never had the privilege to meet him, the stories that have been told about his life urge me to learn more about how he lived and the unique things he did during his life. My great grandfather did some pretty amazing things during his life and some of the facts about his life astound me.
Throughout the story we can see O’Connor’s wicked humor she portrays through the character grandma, grandma is very judgmental and manipulative of others. She lives in Georgia with her only son Bailey, his wife and their three children John
This family was messed up and it all started with the grandmas second husband. He was a child molester and because of that ruined the children’s life. Mentally, physical and emotionally he scared these children. For example, mentally Jim thought it would be okay to ask his half sister to move in and basically become his wife.
Richard Earl Gaither is a family oriented man that lived a fulfilled life from February second, 1934 to September sixteenth, 2014. He had seven children, many grandchildren, quite a few great grandchildren (that’s me), and even some children he raised as his own. My mother, Brandi, is his grandchild yet he took her in when she was born up until she was 8 and continued to be the main parental figure in her life up until the day he died. Her mother Linda was a drug addict and chose the significant other she had that month over her own daughter and Brandi’s father did not want a part in the family so he stayed behind in New Hampshire where she was born. Richard gave Brandi a great life and everything she ever needed. I’ve grown up around my grandfather my whole life. He meant so much more to me than any family member normally does. I’ve learned to appreciate everything he has done for my family. Without him, I would not be here and neither would my brother and my two sisters. Respecting your elders is very important.
Granny is a lot like the mother in that she believes in education and she also wants the best for her grandchildren. Granny comes in when the family is in need of help to pay rent, buy food, and even provide another home when they want to get away from the father. The grandmother almost serves as a second mother for Mark and his siblings to look up to and take after.
Timothy is my third great grandfather. He was a carpenter. September 13, 1827- September 15, 1900 is was he was born till he died at the age of 73. Got married twice, but the firsts wife did not die. They lived in Brooklyn, New York. Henry B. Schuyler was him and one of his wife’s kids. He was sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Nebraska when he was a teenager. Green’s BrickYard in Sioux City was where he worked. Henry was born in August 22, 1856 and died on July 30, 1919. One of his kid’s names was Charles
Everyone has a family members that stands out, grandma Vicki fits under that category. She is stubborn, hard headed and not afraid to speak her mind even if it involves the “f-word”. Do not let
I am certain that the journey my great grandparents entailed was not nearly as simple as I am portraying it, however, the courage of my great grandparents is something I respect and admire. Learning about my heritage has aided
