Researchers saw very little teacher-led instruction, with most learning happening online via content provided by the Apex software. Course instructors typically supervised up to 12 students in a classroom, comprising 11th and 12th grade levels and varied academic disciplines. Some students, in addition worked on their courses outside of class time and remotely but were mostly required to work during the allotted block time and all take assessments were on site. This online credit recovery program showed potential as a competency-based approach to fast-tracking the progress of students who have fallen behind.
Observation and student surveys demonstrated that academic and emotional supports were provided by the staff most often teachers, but

The placement was oval with an inner and outer figure that allowed the teacher to have a view of all of the computer screen, which allowed for easy monitoring of the students. Attendance by the students was a little bit of an issue. To address this the teachers and guidance counselor assigned to the program would make calls home, and communicate with parents/guardians daily. Depending on the course, the allotted completion time can vary. Students are given a full semester to complete a course or in special situations a full year. The school district also provides transportation for the students with an extended day.
Software
The Apex software contained simple, fact-based questions with answers that can be quickly found in the given martials, while other programs like math require higher-level processing and extended responses. Apex does offer a “fast track” course customization however there is a fee associated with this option and this program does not provide for this option.
This software offered some media, audio and video lectures as well as frequent checks for understanding. There were not many technical concerns found with the software, however the computer appeared to be a little outdated and cause the system to move slowly. Students were not encouraged to work at home even though they can use the software remotely. The only required “Homework” was entering thoughts
3. Does the program have a CD-ROM that provides meaningful and interactive practice? (1 pt.)
This assignment will critically reflect and analyse a microteaching session I presented to my peers in a clinical placement regarding Nursing management of chest drains. I will define reflection; teaching, learning and the rationale for choosing this topic will be clearly outlined in this paper. The preparation, planning, implementation and evaluation will also be incorporated. This assignment will be structured using Gibbs (1988) reflective model cited in Modular Training Course, 2003 because of its simplicity. Analysis will permeate through each stage of the Gibbs reflective model. Finally I will conclude by reflecting on my role as a joint practitioner outlining areas of personal, professional growth, identifying my strength, weakness
This research plan is important as we are seeing an increased interest in the program, but before we can enroll additional students, we need to see if this program is making a difference in the completion rate. Moreover, the research will assist in deciding if it is beneficial to budget for additional user licenses if more students would be participating. This evaluate of the high school online learning software (APEX) will determine the effectiveness of the online program and in increasing high school graduation rates in this school district.
Online classes are often incorporated in today’s education system to help assist those who are at risk of not graduating. It gives those students who are not able to attend school an alternative to learning without being physically present in the class. Yet, in Joe Hansen article, “404 Error: Teacher Not Found” he mentions the credit recovery program, in which those who are failing and need credits to graduate can complete those requirements through a series of online lessons. However, Hansen presents several drawbacks that are associated with online education by discussing how credit recovery may be a form of a shortcut through the academic process, that lacks the positive motivation and interaction that these students desperately need.
To summarize, the topic presented in this article is about online courses which are widely used in colleges providing easy access to course materials, classroom discussions, and feedback to instructors. The course materials and activities may be accessed from any computer, whether it is from the University or from the comfort of your own home.
My first experience with a course conducted completely using computer-based instruction as an adult learner occurred during the fall semester of 2007. I was nearing the completion of my first Master’s degree and enrolled in ED500A, which was an educational research class. Although I had extensive experience utilizing technology and the Internet, and had dabbled in CBI, this course was conducted entirely online and proved to be challenging for me. The challenges were not due to the content, but were based on the limited connectivity with other course participants and the instructor. I quickly adapted to the format of the course expectations and developed a schedule in order to meet
I believe that teaching is one of the most important professions in the world today. From the very beginning, until present time, teaching has been around. The book of Genesis speaks of God walking and talking with Adam in The Garden of Eden, God was teaching Adam. I will be proud to, one day, be a part of this great calling.
In this article “Controlling the Work of Teachers” by Michael W. Apple. Apple believes, that teachers are doing more work because of the curriculum and that is not fair. The curriculum is designed by people who are paid and not educators. So, the creators of the curriculum has no idea of what it is like, to be a teacher. Making the designer of the curriculum be someone who has a true interest in education, would help improve the learning environment. Those being in control of the curriculum, that have no interest in education is a form of control, that many may not notice but, some view it as heading towards professionalism.
This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro’s class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you.
The future of the world is in the hands of the children. Whether the future be a positive or negative one depends on the children and the education they receive. The education of a child is so valuable that one needs to consider the importance of the child's education. Also, one needs to consider how to go about nurturing those bright minds so one day they can become independent individuals. As Educators, one needs to be aware of the short-term effects as well as the long-term effects in which education may play on the child's views of the world.
Classroom management is a key element to establish a successful learning environment in any classroom. An effective classroom management plan creates a positive learning environment. Classroom management is affected by the characteristics of the students and their behavior. Students’ behavior is influenced by their age, academic abilities, goals, interests, and home backgrounds (Evertson, Emmer, and Worsham, 2006). Teachers need a diverse array of classroom management skills to facilitate learning. A classroom with a proper management plan will spend less time in disciplining and more time in learning. Students in effectively managed classrooms know and follow clearly defined rules and routines. A classroom management plan should provide
The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.
Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life-long learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and personally. The education of students within classrooms of today is
I think that teaching requires both art and science. They both play a role on each other, because if a teacher only demonstrates one of these types of teaching, their classroom will most likely be very boring.
Students can sign up for courses and choose a format of learning that suits them best; video, interactive tutorials, hyperlinked textbooks or face-to-face group sessions. (US NEWS) Quizzes are given occasionally to ensure that students are learning the material. There are four different types of E-Learning; Knowledge databases (step by step instructions, few explanations and questions), Online Support (Chat rooms, online bulletin boards, email or live messaging), Asynchronous training (Self paced learning based on CD’s, Networks, internet or the intranet) and Synchronous training (Internet using Real Time - communicate directly with the instructor) (Howstuffworks).
