Every adult that works with children/young people must ensure they fulfil their duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of those children/young people. As a teaching assistant, we need to be mindful of any signs of potential abuse, neglect or bullying. We have a duty to ensure children and young people are protected while in our care and if we have any concerns outside school that these are investigated thoroughly. This also includes but is not limited to, ensuring the children are aware of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour both in school and off site, including internet use
Children and young people need to have a safe environment in which to grown up in with parents/caregivers, and they need to be protected abuse or neglect. We as
Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people is extremely important. It involves more than just protecting children from abuse – it also includes promoting their interests, keeping them safe and protecting their rights.
Children and young people are to be protected from any physical harm including sexual and emotional maltreatment neglect and exploitation. Safeguarding is designed to have the child's bests interests in mind and is there to prevent any of these types of harm if the child's needs are not being
My Line Manager and I both reflected on our concerns and analysed what we felt about the situation and agreed these concerns needed to be raised immediately with 2’s Care Co-ordinator. Once I contacted the Care Co-ordinator we reviewed again the circumstances around 2’s vulnerabilities. I wanted to ensure that I had made both my line manager and the Care Co-ordinator aware of the factual information I had been given whilst also seeking a multi-discipline professional judgment on what was the best course of action to take. This would also help me evaluate and analyse 2’s current safeguarding opportunities such as Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) involvement and balance the safeguarding concerns of a vulnerable adult with the probability
In this assignment, I will be writing about a safeguarding workshop I delivered at The Facto-ry Youth Zone to a group of our young people over the course of five weeks. Our aim is to provide a unique safe place for young people aged 8 to 18 and up to 25 with additional needs, from across Manchester. At the Factory, my peers and I believe that all children should be able to access the same opportunities, regardless of what disabilities they face. We work hard to remove barriers to participation and ensure that all members can take up all activities on offer at the centre. The Factory Youth Zone. (2016). Who Are We. Not only is neglect and abuse a serious issue nationwide it is an issue in which human services really steps in and makes a difference. Without case managers, volunteers and communities that want to help these children, there is no telling what could and would happen to these young innocent people. It
According to Brundrett (2003, 36), ‘most leadership positions in education are held by men’. Siraj-Blatchford (2007) agrees with this fact stating that the Day-care Trust reports 97.5 per cent of childcare workforce are female. The leadership in this setting comprises of female staffs. The manager/leaders in this setting understand the culture of this setting specifically and universally by been able to determine what is good practice for settings in general and what the setting good practice is.
Fifty years ago, a small-town Arizona juvenile delinquency case made the front-page of the New York Times newspaper. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision In re Gault 1967 signaled juvenile courts to equalize juveniles with adult 14th Amendment “due process” rights. A review of various procedural safeguards including checklists and guides corroborated due process rights. Inconsistencies infer three improvement targets for probation teams: influence informal juvenile court proceedings, meet deadlines by innovative milestone charts of critical path, and team member self-audit tools.
Child abuse in the United States is a growing epidemic. Every year the number of reported cases, and missing children go up. This is caused mostly by lack of education about the different types of child abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Communities need to provide more resources to better educate the public about the types of abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Child abuse and neglect can be lessened by more resources, more education and to reach out to others.
Just out of curiousity: are you aware of any instances where someone, whether in your workplace or elsewhere, not only disregarded HIPAA protocol but committed an act of identity theft in the process? Something I wonder about from time to time, which I wondered about again in reading your posting, is how safe certain information truly is. Sure there are risks of punishment for getting caught. There are deterrence mechanisms in place. But are there any physical safeguards in place to really stop the people who handle this sensitive, private information on a daily basis from making use of that information, for
Regarding e-safety, I will have a filter on my computer/tablets that blocks out any inappropriate images and information. I will monitor the websites/applications that the children are using and ensure that they are appropriate for them. Younger children are supervised whilst using the computer/tablet and online programmes/applications.
Children are a fundamental unit in the society who are really vulnerable. They have many rights but on their own are unable to fight for these rights, air their voices and protect themselves from abuse or neglect. The United States of America has recorded an alarming number of child abuse cases. This is not a present happening but it is traced back in history when children under the English Common Law were considered to be their fathers’ property and hence the fathers would do whatever it please on and with them. A case is recorded in the early 1870s when an 8 year old orphan in foster care, being whipped and beaten daily had to be protected from such cruelty by the American
Child abuse is a very serious issue, that I believe has been neglected and we as a society haven’t done enough to protect these children. In this essay I
In 2015, almost one in every hundred children were a victim of child abuse (Iannelli, V). These innocent children never chose where to live, they didn’t choose their parents and they definitely didn’t choose to be abused. As stated by Iannelli, seventy-five percent of child abuse fatalities are children under three. The children that can barely talk yet alone escape an abusive home. Child abuse occurs for multiple reasons such as substance abuse and lack of parenting knowledge. Almost all the causes are preventable so it’s time to protect these children.
“An estimated 683,000 children (unique incidents) were victims of abuse and neglect in U.S. in 2015, the most recent year for which there is data. Of the children who experienced maltreatment or abuse, three-quarts suffered neglect; 17.2% suffered physical abuse; and 8.4% suffered sexual abuse. A parent of the child victim was perpetrator in 78.1% of substantiated cases of child maltreatment” A shocking statistic! The roles of parents have change dramatically in recent years. In many of the cases both parents work outside the home and have less opportunities to interact with their children. This has caused kids being raised by daycares, babysitters, grandparents or in some instances by themselves. As an administrative assistant for a public elementary school, I have witnessed at first hand the worse cases of parenting. Some children come to school late, dirty and hungry every day. Others come to school with the hope that they will find the attention, love and care they don't get at home. This needs to stop. We can't go on neglecting, abusing and ignoring the most precious gift God has giving us. But what are we to do when the law that supposed to protect them, fails to do so. One of the things that will help, is going to the root of the problem, which is the parents.
With the abundance of issues that currently surround the citizens of this country, decisions must be made when it comes to prioritizing these challenges in order to most effectively solve them. Different groups of people have varying views in terms of what is most important to work on. Due to this disagreement, there is a standstill and some issues are left to grow while they are overshadowed. While the United States government focuses their attention mainly on the economy and foreign affairs, the issue of protecting children from abuse and neglect is an ongoing struggle that needs to be more acknowledged.
