Greatest accomplishment in the area of leadership (500 word limit) According to The Balance, leadership is defined as “the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.” To inspire all 800 students in my class seems merely impossible, but establishing myself as a leader for those on my tennis team made this task seem rather feasible. Leading this girls’ high school team has enabled me to expand my leadership beyond just my high school team and to the entire community. Being a leader is being a role model and striving to make a positive impact on those around you. In order to be a successful leader, you have to put yourself second and your peers first. For example, my younger sister and I both play softball. I have played on several travel teams during the summer and this year, she tried out for her first competitive travel team. I was asked to aid her by helping her with the mechanics of the game. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. I started out as a student-athlete in which I depicted great leadership skills and positive role model qualities such as diligence, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport. Hence, after my first year of college, I was named the team captain. I worked closely with the coaches, helped to resolve team conflicts, established the tone for practice, and modeled responsibility, decision-making, and a strong work ethic. I also promoted a positive attitude and team interactions, and encouraged and supported all of my teammates. Throughout my experience as team captain, I showed mental toughness by remaining confident and focus, and respond to individual and team mistakes in an appropriate manner.
The Student-Athlete Leadership Team is a program that was designed in order to develop the leadership skills of our student-athletes and will be facilitated by North Atlanta High School’s own Andre Regan. The student-athletes are nominated by their respective head coaches, most of which are team captains. The basics of the Citizen Leader Framework are leading self, leading with others, and changing your world are the core of the leadership model created by Andre Regan and so many other coaches nationwide. Discussion topics will include accountability, self-awareness, resiliency, communication, collaboration, and empathy with and for teammates and coaches, in hopes that the Student-Athlete can help their team on and off the playing field.
Abby taught me so much just by comforting me, and if I can impact just one teammate in the same way she did for me, I’d feel so proud. If a girl is feeling down about a match, if she's feeling discouraged, if she's doubting herself, I want to be there to pump her up. Tennis, like all sports, is such a mental game, and if you're not in the right mindset, you're not able to play your best. Encouragement and example are the two main things that I would focus on as a tennis captain. If it's a grueling, hot day for practice I want to be able to motivate the girls to push on and I want to show them that I can still try my hardest even if the weather is against
As I first joined the Prince George’s Tennis and Education Foundation tennis team, I was extremely pleased with the environment. I was met with friendly individuals and warm personalities from my peers and coaches alike. The coaches were exceptionally supportive, and I maintained a healthy, competitive relationship with my peers. Athletically, the PGTEF coaches were devoted to assisting the members of the team in comprehending
I am involved in many clubs, sports, and volunteering opportunities including tennis, track and field, art service club, ceramics club, arrupe club, W.I.S.H club, and Landow Performance training. All of these activities have taught how to be a leader in and out of Regis. Specifically, club tennis and Regis tennis have taught me how to work as a team with my peers. During the Regis tennis season, freshman year, my partner and I lost many matches, which crushed our confidence. However, through supporting and helping each other, we overcame our loses and improved our game. This applies to NHS, because my perseverance and patience allowed me to not only regain confidence while playing, but it allowed me to grow my character. Additionally, I am now able to see the goodness in everyone I encounter from playing tennis. Outside of Regis, I am involved in a club tennis league at the Pinery where I have taken on some leadership roles including encouraging my friends to join, and showing my peers that perseverance and training to pay off. In addition to tennis, the other activities that I am involved in have allowed me to learn how to quickly solve problems and conflicts. Since childhood, I have had a chance to develop my leadership, organizational skills, and problem solving through all of these
I was able to communicate efficiently between our players and the coach. I was able to bring a team of 2 to a full team of 22 players by the end of the season. I went from beinga coach, to business women, to a team mom and simply by the end of the season I am proud to say I am the captian of the Girls’ Mira Mesa Tennis
As a leader, I will strive to obtain a high degree of athletic, mental, and personal development for my student athletes and endeavor to be instrumental in their goals. I will continue to empower them to be young, idealistic leaders not only on the field, but in the community by asserting respect and empathy for others and maintaining strong academic success while pursuing competitive objectives.
Although I have been on the tennis team for two years, there is more of myself that you may not know. Besides tennis, I participate in gymnastics and Track. For track, I am a pole vaulter and hurdler. I lettered last year for Varsity. As for other leadership roles, I was a WEB leader which helped incoming sixth graders while I was in eighth grade. Due to my participation on the girl’s tennis team, I had heard a lot about the boys’ team throughout my years on varsity. However, I had not gone to a match to see or experience the boys’ team in action or to feel the different atmosphere. As a result, I had a lot of preconceived notions about the boys’ tennis team and how they operate. The team has so much hype for being Shakopee’s best chance to get a tennis team to state and I think they can do it. The first assumption I made about them is that there would be a social hierarchy determined by how good a player was and how long they had been on the team. Because boys often have less petty drama, it would make sense that their social hierarchy was built on something quantitative.
Student leaders come in all shapes and sizes. They choose to lead based on their skills and preferences. Whether in social groups, athletics, or within the classroom, student leaders demonstrate certain traits that benefit both themselves and those they are leading. Generally speaking, leaders are classified as role models within the student body. They are the students who challenge the status quo, who ask questions and demand answers. They inspire athletic teams and social organizations alike; they bring to light the issues that an organization or club faces and work toward a solution. The traits and skills that these leaders exhibit socially, athletically, and academically can be both inherit and learned. The
Confidence and leadership reveals everything about an individual’s unique personality. Whether demonstrated in sports or everyday life, leadership is extremely valuable in the sense of working well with others. I have learned to develop this trait in sports, work, and school. I have especially demonstrated this trait during my junior year by participating in York County’s Distinguished Young Women’s Program. By achieving excellence in my study grades and sports achievements, I demonstrated my commitment to education and sports, as well as my time management skills. Although the hectic schedules and tasks in my undergraduate study were sometimes demanding, the pleasure I took from learning is immense. Individual and group tasks in my study and sports have enhanced my ability to rise up to challenges, promoted my independence, and improved my team work and soft skills.
