Ch. 12 Behaviour Analyst’s Ethical Responsibility to Colleagues (Code 7.0)
1. What are some ways that you can “promote an ethical culture” where you work?
Behaviour analysts can promote an ethical culture where they work by discussing ethical behaviour in trainings and in supervision meetings. In addition, behaviour analysts can reinforce others for engaging in ethical behaviour.
2. How is a tendency to “avoid conflict” counter to Code 7.0?
The tendency for a behaviour analyst to avoid conflict can counter Code 7.0 because the behaviour analyst has a responsibility to her colleagues. This includes ensuring her colleagues are engaging in ethical behaviour, and to ensure this might include confrontation.
3. How is the determination of an ethics violation made? Code 7.02
Behaviour analysts determine if an ethics violation is made by distinguishing between ethical and legal violations. Behaviour analysts can use the Codes to determine if an ethical violation is made.

A BCBA should not use floortime as part of an intervention because this blurs the lines between behaviour analytic interventions and other types of interventions. A BCBA should use behaviour analytic interventions or he should separate himself from ABA if he is going to implement non-behaviour analytic interventions.
9. What are the limitations on using electronic transmission of client information? What about posting photos of clients on webpages?
Electronic transmission of client information could pose serious problems. If an individual hacks a computer or email, confidential information could be revealed. Behaviour analysts should not electronically transmit information that discloses personally identifiable information. Behaviour analysts should also refrain from posting pictures of their clients due to clients’ right to privacy.
10. What is wrong with soliciting clients? What does vulnerability have to do with
How the clients interact with each other; sharing with the clients how they share information with each other ‘I notice that …’
This means that the intervention for the client should be in the best interest of the client who is the most vulnerable and in need of behavioral analytic help. The intervention should primarily benefit the client and not necessarily the caregiver or facility. Behavior analysts are required to follow the code of ethics and use evidence-based procedures. The behavior analyst should define the relation and have a clear and concise contract detailing his or her priorities for the intervention to best benefit the client. The behavior analyst should also make sure that the procedures implemented benefit the intended client.
During the announcement of the seventh annual list of most ethical companies in the world in 2013, Alex Brigham of Ethisphere, noted that more companies find that ethical business practices increase their competitiveness in their respective industries, helping to further substantiate the notion that a culture of ethic is crucial to sustainable excellence (Smith, 2013). Researchers in the field of Organizational Behavior has found that employees are subjected to an environment of ethical dilemma constantly. During such moments employees have a choice either to pursue with ethical conduct or engage in an unethical behavior which results in harming the organization or its stakeholder (Trevino & Brown, 2004). How the employee behave greatly depends
Ethics refers to behaviors, practices, and decisions that address three basic and fundamental questions: What is the right thing to do? What is worth doing? What does it mean to be a good behavior analyst (Cooper, 2007)?
These issues are all of ethical concerns, but are also legal concern according to the fact that is illegal to not completely attempt resuscitative efforts in the absence of a DNR.
The purpose of this assignment was to observe a non-certified staff member implement a program designed by a behavior analyst. Ethical issues that were observed, or potential ethical issues that could arise will be discussed and how they relate to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) ethical guidelines. Following the discussion of ethical situations will be possible solutions to prevent ethical dilemmas from occurring while practicing as a behavior analyst. Finally, this paper will conclude with the observer’s personal reaction.
My role as a behavior analyst is not to judge another individual 's behavior. My role is to observe and effectively develop a plan to achieve targeted goals that will benefit a client 's quality of life.
A program that supports the integration of ABA is the School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS). This program uses evidenced based practices that involve social and behavioral learning, and organizational principles, in an effort to reduce or prevent challenging behaviors at school (Bradshaw et al, 2015). The purpose of using functional assessment techniques, in a school setting, is to identify the reason for which the student engages in
In the workplace as well as one’s personal life is essential for ethics to be maintained; often taking the right action is not always the most popular choice. It is important for maintaining an upstanding ethical code of conduct to be a productive individual as well as function as an employee in the workplace.
Make moral culture a piece of each work force related capacity in your association. Pioneers must buckle down through contracting, preparing, and execution administration frameworks to acquire the correct representatives and after that assistance workers disguise the association's basic esteems.
The purpose of this document is to provide a brief description of the organization for the consulting services. Next, the consultant will recommend key steps that the organization can take to create a strong culture. The consultant will develop an introductory paragraph to the survey explaining the tie between organizational culture and ethical conduct. Designate at least two (2) groups within the organization who will take the survey and provide a rationale as to why these two (2) groups should complete the survey. After the two groups have been identified, develop a brief overview of the participates in the form of an invitation to participate in the survey explaining the purpose and intended use of the survey. Develop criteria for conducting the ethical climate survey of the organization. The criteria will identify:
Ethical behavior is often seen as amoral when used for persuasive purposes. This is possible because persuasion may be used in unethical situations as well as ethical situations. Either way, it depends upon the person who is trying to persuade others. Adolf Hitler is an excellent example of someone who persuaded millions of people to behave unethically. On the other hand, Mother Teresa used persuasion for ethical reasons by caring for the sick and the orphaned, and because of this has impacted an entire world.
Ethics vary between people and are exercised in many different forms. Ethics are the way individuals decide what is “right” from what is “wrong”. One reason ethics vary so drastically is because of different world views. World Views are quite simply how people view the world around them and attach meaning to life in general. By knowing a person’s world view we can assume a certain ethical theory and will therefore be able to make educated guesses on how they will act. The three generalized world views are Nihilism / Naturalism, Humanism, and Theism. The Nihilistic world view is based upon an idea of “nothingness”. The world just came about from nowhere and it does not matter either way. There are no general rules of ethics. It is simply do what is best for yourself and that is assumed to be ethical because mankind is inherently good. Humanism is slightly more democratic. Humanism is based upon human reason. They believe in things such as The Big Bang theory because it makes sense. They also believe man is inherently good, however they are less concerned with the individual and care more about the group majority. The ethical standard is to treat others how they treat you. Theism is more complicated because it is based upon an “ultimate religious being”. So for this purpose I will discuss Christian Theism, which is the world view I most closely relate. In this world view, God is the bases and he created the world and the heavens. Theists
here are several ways of defining and organizing ethical behavior. Hummels and Karssing (2000) distinguish three types of strategies. In the first strategy - the compliance strategy - the company develops concrete standards of behavior which are communicated to all members of the organization. The second strategy - the integrity strategy - does not rely on the compliance of strict rules, but rather on the own responsibility and integrity of the individual employees on basis of internalized values. The third strategy - the dialogue strategy - pays attention to the expectations of the stakeholders of the company. This strategy focusses on the responsiveness to the ideas, interests and values of others.
There have been consistent reports of scandals in corporation because of incidents with employees making unethical decision or partaking in an unethical behavior. Some common examples are the misrepresentation of performance, and theft from one’s organization or employer. According to the US Chamber of Commerce (2012), employees’ stealing from their employers was estimated to be about $40 billion yearly. Values are the motivational construct for what we consider important in our lives (Hannah et al, 2013). It provides a guide for ethical behavior but difference in the values and expectation of a group in an organization may trigger unethical behavior in employees; therefore, this report seeks to explain how work unit influence group member’s unethical behavior.
