This assignment presented a slight challenge due to not experiencing or witnessing any ethical dilemmas at my field placement thus far. However, I have worked in the field for several years and have had the opportunity to experience ethical dilemmas. The most recent dilemma that I encountered involved a client purchasing a gift as a way to show appreciation for the services I provided for her family. She brought the gift to my office, and I had to explain to her that I was unable to accept it because it is my job to provide services for victims and their families. I explained that a “thank you” was enough appreciation, and I could not ethically accept the gift.
The core values that I was faced with were service, dignity and worth of the person,
Every day people make decisions that may have profound effect on their personal and/or professional lives as well as the lives of others. The decision people make have a foundation on their personal, cultural, and perhaps organizational values. When these values are in disagreement, an ethical dilemma occurs.
A few core values that I place importance on in my life are responsibility and reliability. Respecting others is an extremely important value. I believe we all have a responsibility to be respectful because the respect that others are given is what is returned to you. I respect my teachers and do all
Honor, courage, and commitment are the core values that are embedded in my foundation through twenty years of honorable service in the U.S. Navy. Energetic, forward thinking, versatile, and being a team player are characteristics that I possess. I am a compassionate counselor that has worked with clients’ population from every social, economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
The most difficult ethical dilemma I have dealt with was a summer job I had this past summer, while I was working for a bakery in my hometown. This past particular summer really tested what I believe is right and wrong and how to speak up. One of my good friends mother owns a bakery and cafe shop in our hometown. It is a very respectable and well known place, because of how the business got started. Linda, my good friends’ mother, was always baking something delicious and would always have
My three core values are love, honor, and truth. It was very easy for me to settle on these words because I have always had these as my values, but I did not realize it until this year when I joined my sorority, Phi Mu. These words are a part of our creed, and we are supposed to ‘practice day by day love, honor, truth’. Our creed is our sorority’s set of beliefs that guide us as a whole. We try to practice it every day, and these principles have made their way into my daily routine. Naturally, I think I would also practice these principles as I grow older and become a leader. My credo has developed throughout my life because I was raised to employ these values. I was shown love from my family, and because of that, I show love to others and whatever I put myself into. I was an athlete, and so I put my positive attitude and enthusiasm into my sports. I was shown right from right form my parents and from my teachers in school growing up. I learned right from wrong and I am
An ethical dilemma is a choice a person must make that weighs their morals and character. According to authors of Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum, Manual Velasquez et al. states “[It] tells us how human beings ought to act in the many situations in which they find themselves” (p. 275). That decision whether they decided if it was ethically moral or not, will affect them negatively or positively. In many different scenarios, people will apply different types of ethics that works the best for them and their situation.
There is a mission statement and set of core values that include quality of work, acceptance of diversity, integrity, and stewardship of resources. These traits are expected to make employees more productive, give employees higher job satisfaction, and create a more team-friendly environment.
An example of an ethical dilemma I faced was the time I was asked to use an illegal substance. It was the summer of my 8th grade year and my friend from California came to visit me. We were sitting at the back of my house when suddenly he pulled out a roll of paper and a Ziploc plastic bag containing a type of leaf. I asked him what was in the bag; he said it was marijuana he purchased from a dealer on the streets. As he began to roll the paper with marijuana now inside it, he asked me if I wanted to try it. Suddenly I was faced with a choice. As peer pressure continued to overwhelm me I remembered a research paper that I had written about the negative effects of marijuana and in that moment I knew my answer was no. I resolved the problem
All of these core values I must follow everyday working the New York Public Library such excellence; only the finest of everything is good enough. Everyday when I shelf and edge books at my branch, I make sure that the service I put forward is the finest so that the patrons will be able to find the books with much ease. While working at the library I must help the patrons to find books or simply complete task on the computer. I must lead the patrons on how to use certain programs on the computers or where to find Hunger games series in the Young adult section of the library. In my daily life, I must put forth truth from Having these core values already instilled in me from working at the New York Public library I would be able to execute them
As human, we are faced with ethical dilemma every day and how we deal with the ethical dilemma. However, the decision we make can have a lasting effect on our lives.
It is important for all individuals to understand what things in life that they value. These values can stem from personal experience, cultural beliefs, religion and in some cases political beliefs. Identify and understand what core values are and attached them to our personal and profession beliefs and conduct. Core values are the qualities or characteristic that we represent who we are individually and collectively. They are represented as the fundamental driving force within our lives that control why we believe one thing over another and the significant of our actions based on this belief. Identify our core values is the beginning of understanding what they represent. Understanding how people acquire and change these values are also
When asked to reflect on an ethical dilemma that I faced in life, it really makes me think of all the possible situations that happened in my personal and professional life. There are several instances where I have faced ethical dilemma but I wish to point out to one such instance that I encountered at my workplace where I was able to take decision based on my conscience and I feel I have made the right choice and below is the reflective account of that incident.
I believe that I exhibit behaviors that relate to my ethics in my daily life. In my Field Placement, I am aware of the rules and the expectations and I do my best to uphold the standards. The children and their families have their own privacy and I take it upon myself to respect and protect their privacy. When we go on our walk with preschool 1 the people on campus love to stop and stare, which is not a big problem. However, pulling out phones and taking, videos and pictures are a major problem. I do not have the permission to take pictures of the children and post them on social media and neither do the people on campus. I have had to stop pushing the cart multiple times to tell someone to erase the photo or video. On one occasion, I stopped because I saw a guy taking a video and I
In my previous job, there was a couple of ethical dilemmas I had over a period of time, but I’m only choosing one of them to focus on in this paper. This situation involved me catching another co-worker stealing products from the shop. I didn’t say anything at first because I thought maybe this person had gotten permission to use these items. I decided from then on that I was going to watch this person closely, to see if they would take anymore products. Sure enough they did, and that was the moment I knew for sure they were stealing from the company. I felt like I had to do something
Some of those core values are support from the higher management, encouragement for change, respecting every employee irrespective of his grade, uprightness, training Learning and sharing. And most importantly, the culture of giving back. The company’s CEO emphasized the importance of giving back, and every employee including the CEO himself made it a point to dedicate 2 working days every quarter on giving back
