In the Cambridge Dictionary ethics is defined as “ a system of accepted beliefs that control behaviour, especially such a system based on morals”, which can be influence by environment and social perspectives. The ethical issues that I have chosen is; you are working in an organisation responsible for providing care (allied health service, caring for children or the elderly). During the course of your work you become aware that one of your colleagues is breaching the duty of care policy in your work place. What do you do? This legislation is being broken by the worker as he/she is neglecting the patient’s rights to care. The Slann’s case against the Grantley Court Care Home, is a case that evolves around the Age Care of 1997. Police investigated the Grantley Court after the death of Mrs Slann at age 86, they found that her rights of care were neglected by workers and as a result she died within weeks of transferring into the Grantley Court home. The Age Care Act was applied in this case as the home was investigated, after Mrs Slann’s family made complained after her death concerning the treatment she received from workers. If the Slann’s family had made complaints before Mrs Slann’s death, Grantley Court would have been shut down; police had found more cases where elderly’s Age Care Act rights were neglected and resulting numerous deaths and …show more content…

A union would not have the resource or authorities to assist the patient in this situation. The possible choices are a) advising the patient to consult management and to discuss the behaviours of the worker. b) If worker continues behaving inappropriately towards the patient, take actions into your own hands and talk to management, as advised by the interviewer “report it to the supervisor/manager of the department.” Management would conduct an investigation on the worker, they would also be warned and depending on the breach they “If it’s a serious breach, then an extermination of job [would occur]. [However, initial action would be], a warning, as it depends on the breach, then an investigation which may end up with termination or suspension. The investigation will be done immediately after the breach has occurred.” c) if patient does not feel satisfied with result they can call Social Service, who would mostly like conduct an investigation and from there on actions towards worker would take place.
