It's voting time, are you ready to cast your ballot? Many people will go to the polls this year and vote. However there are two ways to vote, either paper or an electronic voting machine. They both have pros and cons but wich one is better?
I feel EVMs can become better than paper polls. Things like environment care and money issues can be an argument, but i will explain why EVMs are a far better choice than paper ballots.
I do not agree with using electronic voting machines in place of traditional paper ballots. My reasons why are as follows, first, using EVMs would be costly. Also, EVMs could be hacked. Another reason is that some people would have a hard time using this equipment.
Electronic voting is probably easier for younger people, people with disabilities, and people that speak a different language. It'd definatly be quicker to go to your local EVM outside a Walmart to vote. EVMs could be improved on to make them 100% fool proof much like an ATM. Then again nothing that relies on electricity is 100% reliable. EVMs are also not cost
Democracy has always been one of America’s most treasured assets. We have the opportunity to vote for whomever we want, regardless of race, gender, or party. We have the right to say what we feel and even take discourse upon that action. However, it is important to realize that the institution of voting is not as perfect as it seems. There are several problems, that when looked at closely, expose the flaws in our system. This is what I observed when I went poll watching at early voting polling places during the 2016 presidential election. As I was watching different people come to vote, I saw how problems which seemed trivial in the moment could actually pose serious threats.
Gunmen on the grassy knoll, AIDS, landing on the moon, chemtrails, UFO’s, CIA mind control and Waco are some of the well-known conspiracies. But what about George W. Bush’s re-election? This cynicism goes beyond political rhetoric and focuses on our ability to participate in a representative democracy. Developed by the ancient Greeks, one of the first voting systems involved dropping bronze disks into barrels. As technology progressed, the advancements in voting systems surrendered an unacceptable system that lacks accuracy despite public outcry for a paper-verified trail.
As technology has evolved there have become more ways to cast a vote than ever before. Most people are familiar with the traditional way of
The purpose of an election is to represent the best interests of a society. Everyone must be represented in a method that elects the candidate that was supported across the country. The electoral college is the perfect setup for a country
Although EVMs (electronic voting machines)provide qualties of convience, security, modern technology, and etc., it will not make citiznes vote. "They help more people vote more easily." (Line 1) This satement is not only inaccurate, but an excuse made for people who do not realize the power and priveldge it is to be able to vote.
Voting plays an important role in the modern lives that can easily shape the whole world. While some people believe that voting should be voluntary, I believe that voting should be mandatory for more social benefits. This essay will discuss the reasons why voting should be compulsory.
The United States is often seen as a hallmark of democracy, due to the nature of peaceful presidential transitions along with the abundance of civil rights and liberties as outlined in the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution. However, on an average, only 60% of eligible voters participate in the presidential elections that take place every four years, and 40% turn out for the congressional midterm elections that occur every two years (Fair Vote). John Winthrop, a New England colonist during the early 17th century, told his fellow Puritans, “We shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us” (Ushistory.org), but has this really lived out its meaning if American elections do not include the voices of everyone?
Voting is a right to all American citizens, not just those who can only use paper ballots. The use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) are more accessible than paper ballots. They are more secure than paper ballots. EVMs are also more accurate than paper ballots.
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
(1) Voting is one of the common actions in a democratic society. As citizens of the United States of America, most Americans have the freedom to vote on local and federal government officials that operate the country and make the laws to follow. (2) Most Americans have the right to vote during elections, and should vote to let their voices be heard, to change communities, and to honor the military.
