School Effectiveness There are many variables that determine a school's effectiveness level. A few examples include: leadership, high expectations for success, opportunities to learn, monitoring the progress of students, and a clear and focused mission statement. The Lyndon Town School in Lyndonville, Vermont has a strong effectiveness level. Their mission statement is “At Lyndon Town School our mission is to be caring, capable, and committed to lifelong learning. We will make today a learning success for all” (LTS, n.d.). Instructional Leadership It appears for instructional leadership in this school ranks at a moderate level. The principle and other leaders of the school look to provide a healthy and open form of communication with all staff and students. The website is well developed providing information on upcoming events, news from the school board, professional development, and various programs offered by the school. Every morning the principal announces the events occurring for the day and any cancellations or changes in the schedule. At this time, the principal will also address classroom achievements and emphasizes outstanding school citizenship. The mission statement is not often emphasized by the principal, but it is heavily stressed in the handbook and on posters throughout the school. High Expectations for Success This is at a strong level as well. This school provides many resources for students to master their subjects. They have what is called ‘Literacy

Not only that, but there are several others who will be graduating Kingsland High School with transferrable college credit so their first few semesters might

I performed my field experience at Chiefland Elementary. Chiefland is a very small town with the population of six thousand. There are over eight hundred students enrolled at Chiefland Elementary. There are fifty-two instructional staff members and two administers. In those fifty-two staff members, there is one African American teacher and one male teacher; the rest are women. This is a white dominate school. In the school there is 73% Caucasian students, 17% African American students, and 4% Hispanic students. There is only 3% of students that are ESOL and 5% are Gifted and Talented. This semester we learned that in small areas and with low income schools, there are more Hispanics and African American people. In this case, Chiefland Elementary

Prior to attending New Directions School, he attended Churchland High School as a 10th grader. I strongly disagree with the decision of my school board, Dickenson County School Board, for making the decision to extend the school day an hour and a half. I believe that this decision will not help the students or staff who are affected by this decision. Extending the school day is a horrible decision because we go to school long enough as it is, also students and staff cannot do the activities after school that they enjoy. Lastly, addition to more time at school will cause students to stress more than they already do. I believe the school board should listen to the people who will be affected by this decision before a massive mistake is made.
The new Martin Luther King Pilot School will have a high morale. The teachers will work together cooperatively to ensure that the students reach their full potential of success. According to Lezotte, “an effective school is one that is achieving high and equitable levels of student learning. All children will learn essential knowledge, concepts, and skills needed to be successful at the next level of schooling.” These correlates include: Clear School Mission, High Expectations for Success, Instructional Leadership, Frequent Monitoring of Student Progress, Opportunity to Learn and Time on Task, Safe and Orderly Environment, and Home/School Relationships. According to Sadofsky (2000), the Sudbury Valley School's mission allows children to learn naturally based on their surroundings. The students are in control of their learning environment since they are given the opportunity learn at their own pace. Sadker and Zittelman (2010) provide five elements of an Effective School (p. 176). Three elements, in particular, correspond to the values of the Sudbury Valley School. For instance, the school possesses element one, strong leadership.

As we review and synthesize data of a district for planning school improvement, the following information is needed to access and determine the needs of a school. First, a thorough analysis of performance data must be reviewed to see how school districts measure up with state and federal accountability. During this process, it is very important that schools focus the performance indicators that will guarantee growth and success. School teams must refer to the districts mission and vision to guide the planning process. The performance indicators will provide data that will be beneficial in creating improvement strategies. So, after careful evaluation of the data, the next step would be to plan effective methods and strategies that will improve student achievement. Moreover, this plan should include needs, demographics and opportunities for students to be successful. Additionally, the baseline data is important information to include in the improvement plan.
The principal’s role in developing positive community relations sets the tone for communication patterns, partnership formation and/or alienation (Fiore, 2013). There are many tasks that the principal has that is important to school and community relations. Some of those are being a good listener, diplomatic and tactful and all situations. They also have to promote the open door policy to be free to communicate with students, parents, and their staff. They also have to inform the superintendent and community about good and bad things that are
