Stages of human development Children develop through many stages in their life. They will reach developmental milestones which are things that most children can do by that certain age. Infants which are aged between birth and 3 years old will develop muscularly from the head downward. They will be able to control their head first, they will then be able to pick things up and use their hands then finally they development of their legs and feet then beginning to walk. They will start to focus their vision. The language used in infants is just small babbling noises such as ‘mama’ and ‘dada’. During this stage they will also develop love and trust bonds. Infants will begin to look for fallen objects and will be able to respond to their own name.
Infancy is from the ages 0-3 years old. It’s a time of rapid growth. During this period of time most changes occur. At this age children develop physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills. When a baby is born they are helpless and depend on their carer in order for them to survive.
Infancy is the stage or period of early childhood this is where the kid is full of energy learning where to crawl, roll over and sit up and eventually how to walk. Very basic skills are learned during through this period such as, coordination and the ability to represent images and objects with words. A lot of the child’s features also change during this stage.
They can now focus on objects and toys and explore them by using their mouth and fingers. Babies start to show that they understand a little of what is been said to them and lift arms to show that they want to be picked up. They are beginning to try and feed themselves by grabbing the spoon and should be enjoying their food. Teeth are now beginning to come through which can be painful at times. By this age babies are getting stronger and should be able to sit with support and should be able to roll over form their back to their fronts. They should now be settled into a routine and will nap and play throughout the day.
During the time of infancy, the child cannot completely rely on themselves but has to depend on their caregiver. The subject in which I observed is a female baby and was born February 8, 2015. She will be referred to as D. B. As of now she is eight months so she is categorized in the infancy period. She is the only child, with a stay at home mom and working father who are married. Her mother is also a part-time college student taking online courses only. D.B. recognizes her mother well and tends to get upset when she’s not around at times. She spends more time with her mother due to her father being in the labor force. Most of the time while observing her is when her father was at work. D.B. is a dependent infant. The first few years of a child’s life are filled with learning and experimentation that helps a child’s mind and body start to develop properly. While these are life-long processes that every person experiences, the rate of development of a young child is truly something to behold.

Erik Erikson was a psychologist who came up with the eight stages of human development. He emphasizes on the life stages starting with infants that are comforted and fed by their mothers, and ending a late adult who is independent and has already experienced the last seven stages of life. Erikson hoped to create a successful plan for each stage that resulted in healthy relationships, good personalities, and the investment of basic virtues.
There are three developmental stages before birth: zygote, embryo, fetus. During the first phase, Zygote is when a cell that is formed when an egg and sperm is combined. The second phase is the embryo. This is when the female is in the early stages of development before the unborn baby or fetus is born. The last phase is the fetus. There are four major theories of the Human Development. The first one being Psychoanalytic theory. Freud and Erikson, were the ones that helped create it by using two different theories. Freud came up with psychosexual theory which is proposing that sexual desire is driving force behind development. There was total of five stages from infancy, toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood and adolescence. With these stages, it calorized them into what they are growing up. Erikson had a total of eight stages that dealt with the mind and behavior aspect. With these eight stages, a developments forms from infancy to all the way to late adulthood. An example would be a girl at age of 8 saw her parents get divorced having that event in her life made her think relationships for wont work like her parents did.
As we grow, we go through series of stages of development weather it is mentally or morally, causing us to become more independent and allowing us to make our own choices. Cognitive development focuses on change, understanding and the development of morals, which teaches us how to treat and respect one another. Lawrence Kohlberg expanded on Jean Paget’s theory of cognitive development, Piaget’s studies focused more on cognitive reasoning behind the transformation of development and the way of thinking, while Kohlberg focused more on the moral aspect of development focusing on the individual and their moral beliefs and reasoning’s behind the choices made. It’s not the first time that this pattern is being experienced it have happened in the past and it have always been accompanied with financial problems, it’s no different even now (Adler, 2001). It occurs when the economy is in real struggle this makes it harder for the young men and women in the society to find their financial independence. Jeffrey Arnett a psychologist came up with a suggestion that in these modern times the stages of development are increasing (Mitchell, B 2006). He said that there is a new type of the classification of the ages known as the emerging adults; this is what bridges the gap between the adulthood and the adolescents. As per the theory it is believed that people while at their 20s undergo a stage of development which is different from the stage of adulthood (Morton, R 2013). This could serve as a good explanation why most of the young adults remain in their parents’ home completely.
