Raising a child isn’t easy, only when you’re only 16 years old. My life changed dramatically when I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter.

In this day in age there are various approaches to raising children. Each parent(s) must decide for them selves which style best fits their beliefs and abilities. Many parents come to the conclusion that they will try their best and just hope that their children learn right from wrong and the abilities they need to succeed in life. However, what most parents do not always realize is that the style of parenting they are using may have a bigger impact on their child than they are aware of. For the sake of these parents and their sanity, as well as the children’s, I have classified these styles of parenting into categories.

One's own upbringing defines their parenting philosophy. Good parents have known the importance of prompt decision making for their kids.The same they would like their kids to follow.There is never a later time to teach this to kids. Make your kids good decision makers from an early age. Impart your kids with intellect and foresightedness. We must know that kids brains grow and function at a faster than ours.The brain grows at an amazing rate during development. At times during brain development, 250,000 neurons are added every minute! By the age of 2 years old, the brain is about 80% of the adult size.

Most modern family films highlight the hardships that parents face raising their children, which are often then followed by moments that make parenting the most rewarding. Films often sugar coat events of how parents may react to certain situation which is a misrepresentation of a family, but we must keep in mind that films are not real life stories unless they are documentaries. In this Essay, I will be using Marianne Hirsch’s work on the ‘familial gaze and Sharon Varallo’s piece on ‘family photographs’ as tools in order to analyse the film Leave it to Beaver. The film Leave it to Beaver released August 1997, is based on the successful Tv series comedy that was released in 1957. I will be drawing on both Hirsch and Varallo’s work which explores the representation of western and non-western families by using photographs, and using their incite to further strengthen my argument. Not all families are alike, most certainly not in values, religion, culture, race, just to name a few, but all families have hardships and it’s how those hardships are handled that make a family stronger. A stronger family often starts with the parents and how they treat one another. For example, parents are seen as role models to their children and those kids pick up habits, from their parents, whether they be good or bad. Parents are generally responsible for nurturing their children. They therefore encourage their children to behave properly. They nurture them carefully from birth to adolescence to inculcate moral values and raising them to respect their elders and themselves (Advameg, 2016). They also encourage them to be obedient, teach them the right from wrong and make them informed about the importance of higher education. An ideal “good” child is expected to conform to social expectations, be obedience to adults, and be devoted to religion.

There is no sure way to be a perfect parent, kids are all different so not everything works the same. Some punishment or rewards never seem to for certain children. The way parents handle their children can seem harsh to some parents to others not enough. But all parents end up hurting their children weather or not they mean to. Sometimes parents ignore their children, tell them they are always wrong, not supporting what their children want.

According to Dr. Tanya Bryon she states that being a good parent is one that doesn’t worry a lot about being a good one. She said that parents who follow a book or a step-by-step process tend to have problems. Parenting should be done by the heart not from someone or something else.

Parents develop their own way of caring for their child that reflects their culture and personal preferences. It is important to consult parents and carers about these ideas and preferences. Each parent’s preferences should be considered and should be fulfilled. Practitioners can then use this knowledge to plan customised and culturally sensitive care.

Some people can not wait to have kids, while others can wait to have kids. Regardless if you have kids then you will need to raise them. Parenting is not easy and you will face many challenges raising your kids. Especially, raising them how you would want them to be raised. I do not plan on having any kids anytime soon but if I did I figure the biggest challenge for me to raise them how I want to see them would be: Raise them without any video games, teaching them right from wrong, and to respect all.

There are many different parenting styles that range from a supportive parenting style to a authoritative style, but which parenting style allows children to develop themselves in a way that they can learn to adapt and communicate with authority figures effectively as they begin to advance in life? Soenens et al. (2015) focus primarily on two variables of parenting styles, support of autonomy and controlling parenting; one extreme versus the other extreme. The researchers believe that according to SDT, support of autonomy in children is more beneficial because it satisfies universal psychological needs such as acknowledging children’s views, provides significant meaning to the choices they make, and how to communicate rationally when introduced to rules and other types of policies.
