Intelligence… this is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. This means our brainpower, intellect, understanding, comprehension, etc. I am a student who cares about things like this. I want to go to school to learn, not to talk or disrupt class but to learn and focus because I am planned for the future. I want to be a Gastroenterologist when I grow up. I’m going to do what it takes to be one. I will need to go to high school, college, and medical school and I will go there. I want to learn, I’m ready for a challenge, and I strive for success. These are some of the reasons why I feel like I make an ideal candidate for the IB Program.

In my mind when I see something challenging I just don’t give up. When situations like this occur I try my best and hardest to make sure that I defeat what is up against me. I have heard from students who are already in IB say that it is a lot of work and it isn’t easy. But I’m willing to take the challenge head on. For example, when I started 6th grade I had Intensive Math and all regular classes. I was okay with everything except math. From learning my score, I knew I had to change everything. It was going to be a challenge but I was ready. After a year of math, I took the FCAT and I knew I was ready. I was right I had earned a 4. I had raised my math score from a 2 to a 4 which was awesome. I was placed in Adv. 7th-grade math and was spectacular in 7th grade. After 7th grade, I was placed in Algebra 1 Honors for 8th grade. To start from Intensive math and now I’m in Algebra 1 Honors that is amazing! Also, I’m in the AVID program which I joined in 7th grade. I was really good with the skills to be learned for example WICOR and now in 8th grade, I’m a math tutor for first year AVID students. I take my education seriously and this keeps me motivated to continue doing so. I know that my parents want the best for me and that they want me to have the best education possible and I can agree to that. I remember my mom taking me to the piano, dance, and Karate lessons. I never missed a practice and that shows how much dedication she has towards me. I want to make her proud and this also keeps me going to strive for success. Also, I’m in Gentlemen of Quality and National Junior Honor Society at Varsity Lakes Middle School. I earn community service hours with NJHS and I can help at events. For example, soon we will do Relay for Life which will benefit the American Cancer Association. With being in Gentlemen of Quality (Or GQ), I learn skills that real gentlemen should have. Understanding that challenge is necessary to expand skills, I took Advanced Placement Physics as a junior in high school. Determined to excel I pored over books, sought assistance from teachers, and diligently applied myself. I was certain that an A grade was imminent. I was working hard, alas an A grade eluded me. Ironically physics, a subject I actual enjoy, was teaching me a hard lesson, sometimes, no matter how hard you work, success does not come on the first try.
I will engage in research, acquire hands-on experience, and apply what I learned in class in real life scenarios to make an impact on people’s lives. I will partake in service opportunities like my current roles in NHS and FNHS. My personality will benefit those around me. Honors College will place me in courses with exceptional students who are dedicated and focused. They will push my performance as a student. Still I was determined to find some type of success before I left high school, and since my high school offered a welding certification program, reluctantly I accepted the opportunity. I figured at a minimum, becoming a welder would earn me the same honest living as becoming a teacher. While participating in the program taught me about working hard and becoming a disciplined young adult, I realized my passion for welding would never burn the same way the metals did. After joining the cornerstone honors program my life changed. For the duration of my first year of college I was exposed to a system of learning that re-fuled the passion that was extinguished in high school. Joining the honors program allowed me great opportunities I never even saw coming. I gained the confidence to join the phi theta kappa honors society and become a chapter officer. Although I could never join the national honor society in high school. I now had the opportunity to immerse myself in community projects and leadership roles. See when I was in high school I didn’t know how to play the game. I didn’t know the importance of being involved in school activities. I didn’t know the importance of building relationships with instructors. The worst part was I didn’t know the importance of placing value on education. First of all, I am honored to be considered for a spot in National Honors Society. Many people wouldn’t believe that I would even be considered, so this means a lot to me. I would like to believe that I deserve this position because of my hard work and dedication to my academics. If I am accepted into National Honors Society, I hope I learn to become a better leader, role model, and person in general. As a student, I have always strived to do my best work. This determination also carries over into the rest of my life, including athletics, community service, and other extracurricular activities. I am currently a junior at POLYTECH High School and am a student in the Criminal Justice technical area. I am a member of the National Honor Society and our school-wide SkillsUSA chapter. Outside of school, I am a very active member of my church youth group and work often with the Knights of Columbus in community service efforts. I participate in shot put and discus with the school track team, and I also play volleyball. Through dedication and hard-work, I have managed to maintain high grades over the past three years of school and earn a rank of fourth in my class.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be recognized for my exceptional behavior that is displayed in everything I do. The National Honors Society can benefit me in accomplishing that goal. I enjoy learning new things daily, and applying it to my own life. I am doing extremely well in all subjects, but apart from classes, I am actively involved in school activities. For instance, I participate in cheerleading, basketball, softball, Heroes and Cool Kids and student council. The purpose of participating in these activities is to succeed. In order to succeed, I feel one must be focused, confident, responsible, creative, dedicated, and hardworking. These characteristics lead me to be successful and to dedicate myself to my academics.

Basically they give anesthetics to patients undergoing a procedure. Also they have to keep a close eye on the patient during the procedure to watch out for signs of distress or a bad reaction. I am a very caring person and get very concerned with the well being of others. So naturally I want to go into nursing to help others when they are at their worst. I found it is difficult to find a career and a school that will meet my needs but will keep me entertained. If you don’t enjoy something you won’t want to be there or do that career for the rest of your life.
I want to major in Biology/Pre-Med because I have ulcerative colitis and I want to find a cure for this disease.I will need to become a dotor particularly a gastroenerologist. Thankfully, my ulcerative colitis is mild, but my life was chaotic for a few years. If it had been any worse, I am sure my life would have been ruined. Whenever I have an appointment, I notice the younger children who live with devastating forms of this disease. Living with any gastrointestinal disorder is a nightmare, and watching babies who have never lived a healthy life is exhausting considering when I complain even though I was diagnosed only five years ago. Transitioning from honors math to IB math was a time in which my expectations and outcomes differed. Before I began taking IB math I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park but I also felt like I would be able to handle it. My older brother took it the year before and manage to get a B for the class; I had faith that I could do the same or perhaps better.
For many years in my college career, I depended upon another person to be my confidant and support system. I could not foresee my future without our future, and I planned my path to becoming a physician always with another person in mind. Before graduation, this relationship was severed. I had never experienced such a loss of direction as my time as an undergraduate ended. I had already accepted my position as a medical assistant and began training in an uncertain mental state. I felt as if I was experiencing a loss unlike any that I had before. What I did not realize at the time was that taking on my position at Vanguard during such a fragile time in my personal life would build a new independence and reaffirm my desire to pursue medicine.
I have always been academically talented, however the transition from junior high into the International Baccalaureate program in high school was a great challenge for me. I had become comfortable with the amount of effort necessary to skim by with A's and B's, and consequentially I had no real work ethic or drive to succeed. These two qualities are of tremendous importance for school, especially in regards to honors programs such as IB. I must admit, I did not achieve the grades I expected throughout my freshman and sophomore years, and it wasn't until the second semester of my sophomore year that I even recognized the problem! Thus, at the beginning of my junior year, I set out to change and grow into the student I had the potential to be.
Going to school lays out the foundation for many aspects in a person’s life. Going to school teaches learning and how that person feels about learning. It promotes socialization and relationships with others. It builds memories that are cherished for a lifetime.
