Going to school lays out the foundation for many aspects in a person’s life. Going to school teaches learning and how that person feels about learning. It promotes socialization and relationships with others. It builds memories that are cherished for a lifetime.
For my SLED program I was placed at Cesar Chavez Elementary working with kindergartners. My subject to tutor was in reading. I worked with two teachers, Mrs. Bencomo and Mrs. Morales. I would go in for an hour on Monday and an hour on Friday. I would work with two groups of six students for half an hour each. All of my students were around the age of 6. I worked with an equal amount of boys and girls. The ethnicities were White or Hispanic.
Mrs. Bencomo wanted me to focus on letter recognition and sound recognition, she also wanted me to work on blending of the words and rhyming. The two groups were split into students who were lower level and really needed help with learning letters and the sounds that they made. The next group wasn’t as low but still needed help in putting together words and blending them together. I would go at a time where they were doing reading stations. Every half hour the kids would move to anew station and I was one of the stations for the specific kids that needed extra help. We would go in the hallway to a table and I would review letters and the sounds that the letters made. We would play games and put together puzzles. We would also work on tracing letters, lowercase and uppercase.
The aim of this assignment is to give a reflective account on group presentation and the peer assessment process as well as the development of a personal action plan. It would involve using ‘The What? Model of Structured Reflection’ (Driscoll 2007) to analyse the experience of using a group designed assessment tool to assess my peers and the experience of being peer assessed. Additionally, experience of completing a group presentation would be reflected upon. A personal action plan which identifies areas for personal development and the designed assessment tool is attached as appendix 1 and 2 respectively.
My life has been influenced greatly by teachers. Since I was a child, teaching is all I wanted to do. My mother is a fifth grade teacher. I have quite a few friends that are teachers. I have been fortunate to be influenced by some great teachers throughout my academic career. I love to be around kids and I like participating in the process of learning. I appreciate learning even today. I enjoy the learning process and hope to one day influence students in the future. I hope to one day become a high school social studies teacher. I enjoy history and geography, and I especially love politics and discussing current events. I like class discussions and letting different opinions express themselves.
One of the most privileged professions in the world today is teaching. Teachers can influence the youth of a culture in a way no one else can. Teachers have the honorable responsibility of education. Students develop mentally, socially, and ethically within the realm of academic education. While in this critical stage of development, students are given the laboratory of the classroom to test themselves in ways that are more risky after graduation. Teachers play a crucial role in this laboratory. I believe that the most important way I can serve my students while fulfilling this role is to have positive expectations, to continually reflect on my teaching habits and performance, and to use literature as a way
His book Schooled was a delight for me to read, and once I started I did not want to put it down. I liked many of the characters as the author wrote them well and gave everyone a different personality, this kept the story interesting. The writing style was different than I had encountered before, as each chapter depicted a different person’s point of view. The alternating characters' points of view, allowed me to gain insight into the turmoil that each character was experiencing as Cap influenced their lives. Although I was hesitant of the style at first the story flowed nicely and I could really envision each character. I also really enjoyed the plot of this book. A home schooled eighth grade hippie being forced into society through a normal
Regarding my college education, I opted for a rather unconventional route to prepare for medical school. I declared a major in Music with a concentration on Composition, along with piano as a principal instrument. I addition to these, I took all of the required pre-medical courses along with additional important science courses to acquire the academic exposure necessary to be successful in medical school. Throughout my college career, I have successfully juggled the two disciplines, and have consequently achieved the required mastery of both.
Education is inevitable. It is all around us because we can learn from virtually anything. When you are cooking, dancing, talking or any other activity you have actually had to learn several things to be able to do them. In the educational perspective, I am a pragmatist and I tend to follow after Dewey's footsteps. The concept of Pragmatism is one that developed in the 20th century. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning should involve real-life situations. Learning becomes more concrete to a student when they apply it to real-life situations, as where learning things that do not connect to them has more of an abstract sense. Personally, I would have to agree with Dewey when he said, "I
There are several reasons why kids need to go to school but to me, the top three reasons are getting an education helps you go farther in life, it’s required by the state that you go till you reach a certain age, and it will help you learn social skills and help you be comfortable to talking to people. Although students may not like going to school, it benefits them in the long run. It is important for students to go to school to get an education. Even though some students may not like to go to school it is required that they go. Even though students may not realize it but they also learn social skills by making friends and talking in front of people.
Education what is it? Is it only, how it is defined, as the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning? Is education only something you receive in a school. Education to me begins at birth; a journey that has begun, as you experience new things you learn and grow mentally and emotionally. By the time a child begins school they have learned a multitude of things which include a number of things like walking, speaking, listening this is just the beginning of their learning career. My beliefs are that all children can learn they have a right to be educated and be safe in the environment in which they learning in are, these things are a must.
“Be a reflective teacher. Honestly look at what you do from time to time. Evaluate the purpose of your role as a teacher.” (Robert John Meenham, 2011)
Without education people would be lost. Education gives a student the knowledge to survive in a demanding world. It also helps a student grow as an individual. Students need to be motivated to learn by the teacher in the classroom. Motivation can come in different forms and depends on the age of the students. A teacher has many rewarding experiences in the classroom. My goal is to get students interested in learning. Teachers need to make sure that they do not discriminate in their classrooms. Also, they must have good classroom management in order to provide an effective learning environment. My philosophy of education is progressivism. I want my students to learn how to work
Education is a vital part of our society it is critical, from the early stages of preschool, kindergarten, middle and high school and to those that are pursuing higher learning. We are all in a consistent learning cycle, paying little respect to our present educational structure. All through history, we have been learning in various ways. Since we are in the 21st Century, learning is winding up more digitalized. This is the thing that makes it so vital to be able to get a handle on information for what it's worth and have the capacity to apply it to our regular day to day existences. As we learn, we should likewise comprehend that there are diverse learning styles out there that does not transfer data in a simplistic way. This is the reason, as individuals, we must choose if the way data is passed particularly works for us or not. As Friere states in Pedagogy of the Oppressed, "Education either works as an instrument which is utilized to encourage coordination of the more youthful era into the rationale of the present framework, and achieve similarity or it turns into the act of flexibility. The methods by which men and ladies bargain basically and imaginatively with reality and find how to take an interest in the change of their reality." What does it REALLY mean to gain an education? Does it mean you attended a university and got a degree? Does it mean you can recollect pretty much all that you see or read? As I would like to think, it is not one or the other. Being
Education is indubitably vital to becoming a great person, who can articulate themselves efficiently. Having a plethora of intelligent family members, education is always a topic of discussion when both sides of my family is around. From report cards to GPA’s, words of excitement always fill the room with warm rays of compliments. Even with the notion of needing to keep my grades up, I sometimes make mistakes, causing me to get an earful from my mother and father. With my own self-motivation to be the best I can be, my grandfather plays a big key in wanting to keep my grades up and succeed. Throughout everything I do he's always been and is willing to give a helping hand. I reflect his traits to help become the best I can possibly be.
The ideas I have been considering since starting and college and starting this journey as college freshman has been the idea of not settling for the least and to believe in myself more. This probably sounds like a very basic discovering one has with oneself but it has made an impact on how I believe in myself and how I carry myself in regards to school work and achieving goals. An idea I have been considering is not an easy decision and I know that I won't deciding anytime soon but the idea of furthering my education and actually becoming a practitioner nurse sounds appealing. I don't know yet if I want to fulfill that education after graduation from nursing school but it has been idea that has been been planted in my head by talking to some peers and other nurses that are interested in furthering their education.
When I was younger and in elementary school, I did not care about my grades at all. My parents would try to get me to study and I just did not care anything about it. It wasn’t until I became a little older and realized how important an education is that I started trying to do better. Ban Ki-moon states that “Education promotes equality and lifts people out of poverty. It teaches children to become good citizens. Education is not just for a privileged few, it is for everyone. It is a fundamental human right” (qtd. In Brainy Quote). Devon Brown, in the film The Boys of Baraka, reminds me so much of myself in the way that he saw things in life and the time periods in his life that those views changed. My family has played a major role in encouraging me to succeed in school, they have motivated me to do my best, and taught me the things they think is the most important to helping me to become the best me possible.
God, the Ruler and Creator of every finite and infinite existence in the universe, has called me to a life of love, servitude, and fellowship with other Christians. However, at my age, my walk with Christ is no longer conjoined with decisions made by my parents. The decision of college is entirely mine to make with the benevolent and ever-wise guidance of Christ. By no means is this an easy task, but one ideal has been forthright in my heart-- my education must be Christ-centered.
