Did you know that having an extracurricular hobby can help high school and college students in academics? Things such as being engaged in an orchestra, or a club on campus are common; my hobby has been athletics. I have excelled in athletics all my life and decided to take it to the college level. I can't describe how much that experience has had an impact on my ability to manage time, my health, and my success as a student.
If you had something that you loved, something that made you successful, would you want to share it? I did. I know some awesome athletes in my high school that just needed a little push. They needed a little more time with a coach, a little more encouragement. I knew I was someone that could do that.
Over the summer, I helped out three young women from my high school with javelin technique and workout habits they should get into. I met with each of them once or twice a week for practice. Addie was a very stubborn girl. She wanted to be the best (that includes by beating my high school records). That is what helped her the most. She would come to practice and then complain the whole time we ran or did plyometric drills. I thought she was going to quit after the first day, but she didn't. She was too stubborn to. I'm so glad she did because I got to continue to work with her on her fluidity in her approach and her form. Addie is now headed to Brigham Young University on an athletic scholarship to throw for them!
Emily met with me only once a week. She is
Although I had only participated in the school Cross Country team for two years, I felt very connected to the team and wish I had participated my sophomore and freshmen year as well. Over the two seasons, I have made many great friends and learned the importance of working hard to achieve my goals. Throughout my life, my parents have pushed me academically, but never really encouraged me to try hard in sports or physical activities. Cross country filled that void for me and helped me become a more well-rounded person.

Extracurricular activities are offered in almost all schools and universities. You can engage in extracurricular activities as young kindergarten up to your adulthood and even beyond that. These activities come in different forms like sports, clubs, fraternities and sororities, youth groups and other social events. This paper is mainly about how extracurricular activities affect the students.
If a researcher wants to determine if a student who participated in extra-curricular activities in high school will have higher grades in college than a student who didn’t, they could see the cause and effect that extra-curricular activities has on a student’s college studies.

When I was in 3rd grade I begged my mom to sign me up for cheerleading. I had always pictured myself on the sideline of a football game. Except, that wasn't exactly what I signed up for. Actually, it wasn't even close My mom signed me up for a team named Rocket Cheer. A team that did not cheer on the sidelines at football games but instead competed in competitions nationwide throughout the whole year. This has been more than just a sport to me. Rocket Cheer has taught me commitment as well as time management, the true meaning of family, how to not give up on any goal, and taught me to be me.
My freshman year, I qualified for state in the shuttle hurdle relay. The girls on my relay team were a huge help to me, by guiding me along with new experiences. We ended up making it to finals and placing seventh in the state. My teammates pushed me in practice, and I wouldn’t have made it as far as I did without them by my side. I was always told that my hard work will pay off, and it for sure did. Going to state track taught me that anything is possible if you work for it. As I grow older, I’m sure to be a great role model for the underclassmen by giving them the motivation that they can do anything if they set their mind to it. I didn’t only help myself by doing this, but I helped the entire team. Throughout every sport, I try to be a positive influence towards my team because we need one another to improve and make a great impression by representing Forest City High
I have been fortunate to be the recipient of untold hours of guidance of my own coaches and mentors. I can only imagine the sacrifices they have made- time away from family and fatigue just to name a couple. As a result of their investment in me, I have had innumerable opportunities, not the least of which will be the opportunity to attend Rice next fall and play baseball for the Owls. I am doing my best to apply the lessons I've learned through Wylie high school sports, to my life and all the lives I touch through service. All of these lessons impacted my life immensely and will follow me through
More than half of American teenagers attending school participate in some type of extracurricular activities (Gardner, Roth and Brooks-Gunn, 2006). Extracurricular activities can include sports, journalism, drama or theater, art or music, youth groups, student council, and clubs. Today about one in four students participate in academics clubs (Miller & Zittleman, 2012). Since extracurricular activities are so popular among students, it is important to understand the pros and cons of engaging in extracurricular activities.
Extracurricular activities have shaped who I am today. Every activity that I participate in represents a social group whose members share a common goal that binds us in a special way. The shared goal enables a joint discovery of values and attitudes while building life skills that is required to be successful in all walks of life. Outside of classes, I have made a conscious effort to improve my knowledge and develop skills by participating in community services, student government, internships, professional development conferences and workshops, cultural activities, athletics, school club activities and by taking advanced community college coursework.
During my time in high school, I have been a varsity shot put and discus thrower. As the years have gone by, the coaches have relied on me to be an advisor for many girls and even some guys. Even grade school I had thrown shot put and discus. With all my experience and skill, it was clear why the coaches allowed me the chance to help teach my fellow athletes. Many of my teammates were beginners with little technique and knowledge on the event. Although it was challenging at times, I feel I learned as much, if not more, than they did. The experience taught me more about communication, confidence, and leadership. At times, it was difficult for the beginners to understand different forms and techniques. By learning more about my teammates, I aided
Through out high school I have worked hard to accomplish my goals of keeping my GPA high and doing my best in every class. I have always put my academics before anything else, which can be challenging at times but in the end, worth it. I have been involved in sports, church, mission trips, and school clubs during my entire high school years and it has benefited me greatly. It has taught me to juggle school while being active in my community and learning life skills. My academic performance has improved by being involved because it has taught me to organize my time, stay motivated to complete tasks, and plan well. Being able to multitask is a great skill to have during college because life becomes very busy. I feel well prepared to pursue my
Throughout high school, I have been involved in many extracurricular activities. I have been on the basketball and track teams for all 3 years, and I am looking forward to continuing to play for the Norsemen during my senior year. I love being a part of the team atmosphere and getting to use my talents to make myself, and my team better. Along with that, I participated in off-season and in-season weights for a majority of the year all three years. This usually involves coming in before or after school, or in the mornings during the summer to get a good weight lift session in. I have also been a part of the big buddies program and have gotten to know many of the elementary school students along with getting to know the teachers. With this, I have really helped boost up my number of hours of volunteering and am close to completing enough hours to receive the silver cord award by the time that we graduate next year. I plan to keep volunteering and since have been involved in youth group since kindergarten and am now too old, I plan to help teach a class this coming year.
It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in these activities improve their academic scores and social life. Extracurricular activities can also help reduce many peer pressure related problems. “They enrich the lives of the students, their families and our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and talents are because they have been exposed to such opportunities” (Extracurricular Activities, Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do outside of school.
