I have an extreme passion for reading. In the second grade I had a teacher who also had an extreme passion for reading, and I remember her reading to me and a small group The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. After reading it she kissed all of our hands, and I will never forget how much that book meant to me. I also went to a book fair with my mom and dad in the second grade in which my dad bought me the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Why my dad bought me the second book in the series I am not sure. I read it anyways, and then read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. After that I read the second book again, and then continued to read the entire series. I was enticed. I also fell in love with the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher …show more content…
When I was super young I had atrocious earaches and toothaches, but reading would help me forget the pain. Reading also would help me pass the time. I have been given so many ideas by reading books for things such as writing my material, or getting through problems. It's absolutely amazing. I believe almost all books have morals and themes that can help people through problems and teach people new lessons, and I really love that about reading. I feel that when I read I can put myself into the story, and learn from the book as well as relate to the book. I also really enjoy reading because there are so many genres such as poetry, plays, and biographies to read. Reading different genres is like an entirely new adventure. I remember that I always struggled with reading non-fiction, and I hated it. Some non-fiction books were super interesting, but they either were too hard to read, or too hard to grasp. However in the eleventh grade I took AP U.S. History, and I had to read more nonfiction than I feel like I have had to read in my entire life. I read all sorts of things such as primary sources like newspapers and diary entries as well as secondary sources such as papers and books on historical
I have always loved reading due to the exciting stories and the interesting characters that provide a good backbone. All my early books I remember as feel good tales to make the young reader fall in love with the characters while usually having a central theme to teach. Some of the charm of these books was how it got the reader engaged and taught along the way. Just like children shows such as Sesame Street the books where entertaining and also educational so it gave children a early start for school; I would be excited whenever the teacher would teach something and you would already know the new word or
My Husband knows about my Harry Potter (almost) obsession and does not miss a chance to give me a hard time about it. I could read Harry Potter over and over again without getting bored. I also enjoy my Twilights and Hunger Games. I favor series because it allows me to make more of a connection with the characters. Knowing they have another adventure once I finish the last page gets me excited. When I was younger I read more of a variety mystery, western, and horror. As I get older I find myself going back to comfort, and that is why I reread my favorites. Going to college, working two jobs, spending time with my family, and as of recently considering being a foster parent has not left me time for pleasure reading. That is why I spend any time I do have reading novels I know I enjoy. I hope after graduating that I will have more time to expand the literature I
Growing up I was never a big fan of reading, but as I got older I noticed books are very essential. They are filled with adventures and lessons that only exist in wildest imagination. Without books many of us wouldn't know half the things we know today. Books teaches us math , science, history ,and even how to use a computer or how to play a sport. With so many different genres to choose from and millions of books to read , the task of reading can never get boring, especially when you're actively reading
I had a couple years during middle school where I didn’t read as much, but when I started Seventh Grade I remember reading The Mortal Instruments series, and I fell in love with it. I would stay up late at night just to finish the next Chapter. By the end of the semester, I had finished all six of them and I still love reading them even
When I was a younger I don’t remember if I was read to or not, but I read a lot of books. I enjoy reading books because they allow me to reach new heights in my imagination. At my age many kids say that reading is boring and is for losers. I think it’s cool to read and will continue to read throughout my life. I have read many different types of books from fiction to biographies. The longest book I ever read was a book called Dragon Rider by Cornella Funke. It was five hundred and thirty five pages! When it comes to reading I am a superstar! When I’m reading I am able to get a moral lesson from what I read, so it ends up helping me in the long run of my life
I like reading because reading a perfect book is not only for homework but also can improve myself. Ursula K. Le Guin said, “We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.” I hope during the process of reading in a higher level, I could learn something about myself from a book. An author spent much time to write a great book, and after my record the feedback, I also want to think about my story according to the
Reading has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a little child. I grew up as a normal child should grow and eventually I had to start learning for me to fit in society. My literacy started many years ago, after I knew how to talk and communicate with people. Reading my alphabet was quite stressful and I had to be given a hand by my family members. I remember my parents reading with me and it was the most meaningful and memorable way to spend time with me. This is because I liked reading a lot and I was eager to learn so that I could fit in with my older siblings. My favorite books were storybooks taking about adventures and fairytales
When i was younger i loved to read, at my old elementary around 3 and 4th grade we had went to the library once a week and i would get at least 3 books to last me i was actually was interested in a couple series one series were the magic treehouse book i thing i read about 50 of they i was just in love and recenlty my little brother who is the the 3rd grade started to read them and when he brought the first book it just brought so many memories i really cant remember who actually introduced me to those books because i was that type of person who only liked specific books if the book didnt hook me on the first couple of pages then i wouldnt read it so thats why i liked the magic treehouse books by time the 5th grade came i had already read
Where my passion for literature started, my passion started from little things such as talking to people and reading signs to bigger things like books, newspapers and plays. My mother was the one who taught me how speak English and with her everyday encouragements to make me read books, I quickly became fascinated. At the age of five, I already had a small collection of books. My mother would always tell me “reading is your main key to knowledge.” My first year of school I remember walking into class to greet my teacher Mrs. Simon I automatically sat down and started reading my little mermaid book while other kids played with building blocks ,I always preferred sitting in my seat reading a book . When we
I like to read because you can learn stuff about the world and it can make you smarter. I like reading because it gets me out of my problem and my stress and i can go somewhere else and never have to do anything. Like for example I read the bible for church and I learn stuff about what happened back in the time of Caesar it's intriguing and I like to know what happened and who was the most important person. Well I like social studies and I like history and like to know what happened back then
Raymond Mar, a psychologist at Your University in Canada and Keith Oatley a professor An The University of Toronto, they both say that “individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathies with them and view the world from their perspectives.” I agree that reading certain types of books can help people further understand and see things from a different point of view. Reading helps to open people's eyes and to teach life lessons or to show there are other things to believe in and know other than what they have always been told to know. Getting different types of books, types that are not always the same as the books that you normally read can help you to view things differently. For example from personal experience a new book can help your imagination grow, readings helps me a lot when I need to come up with new ideas for an art class. The new places a book takes you the new images you see while you are reading the new stores you hear and the happy ending your book might have can change the way you are feeling it can brighten up your day.
At this point in my life, reading would definitely not make a list of my favorite things to do, but this wasn’t always the case. Some of my youngest memories involve reading, and many of these memories are enjoyable. Every night before bed my mom would read to me, and I remember begging to read just one more before she tucked me in almost every night. This is when my love for reading sparked. Throughout grade school, I continued to read frequently and never found it to be a chore; however, once middle school hit I no longer included reading as a past time or found it pleasurable. Looking back now I realize this was when English class included more forced literature, and school consisted of reading extensive pages in textbooks. Reading
Growing up reading and writing has always been a strength for me. I loved to read and I have always been intrigued by writing poems, short stories, and even my own songs. I remember being the only one in my neighborhood inside because I wanted to read instead of playing outside all day. Reading has opened my mind and imagination to see things in a more creative light. Regardless of your situation in life, reading can give you an escape from the realities we face every day. I remember coming home from having a bad day and opening a book; I would forget everything else around me. It was like I was drowned in another world when I was reading, that’s how real it felt to me. When I got in my teenage years I started to read less. This was detrimental for me because my love for reading had many positive impacts on me. Reading gave me a reason to teach others, kept me out of trouble, and gave me a special meaning to my life.
I fell in love with books when I was probably about two. No matter where I would go, I would always bring a book along with me to read. I remember sitting at hockey games with my mom and my dad, not even glancing at the game because I was too busy trying to read my books. My favorite book as a young child was called 'Commotion in the Ocean'. I most likely was drawn to the book because of the vibrant illustrations, but the short stories in the book were what made me love it. I would ask my mom or my dad to read it to me on a nightly basis, and even though I'm sure they eventually got sick of it, but they would continue to read it to me. To this day, I still own the book.
As a child, my interests were more focused on reading than writing. In elementary school I fell in love with books. Initially I read simple children’s books, much like everybody else in my class, but it did not take long for my passion to drive me to read more difficult writings. Fiction books quickly became a replacement for any childhood toys. Instead of blocks or stuffed animals I would ask my parents for books. Since they were aimed at young readers, they tended to be short. I found myself going through them within days, and then soon several hours. Towards the end of elementary school I was reading series like Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. I was captivated, and reading truly opened up a whole new world for me.
