The song “F**kin’ Perfect,” by P!nk, can be interpreted in various ways. Personally, the song talks about someone who is tired of being judged because she acts and dresses different than society’s idea of how a woman should carry herself. This is evident in the bridge of the song, “Done lookin’ for the critics, cause they’re everywhere / They don’t like my jeans, they don’t get my hair.” In this example, the artist has given up on trying to change her appearance because everywhere she goes, someone criticizes her—including her style. In addition, when a person has to deal with this constantly, it can have a negative impact on the way they think about themselves. For instance, verse two states, “You're so mean when you talk about yourself, you

Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment.
If you ever wanted to get revenge on people who have wronged you, then you may be able to relate to Mr. Chiu, the main character in the short story “Saboteur” by Ha Jin. Mr. Chiu’s revenge is ironic as the conflicts he finds himself in throughout the story.
In her undertaking of a novel with an unusual topic, Mary Roach balances her book, Stiff, with the perfect amount of sarcasm and sincerity. Due to the overall themes of the book being death and cadavers, it would be hard to consider completely digesting the book without a little bit of satirical dialogue. After all, the entire book would seem kind of morbid without it. Her tongue-in-cheek writing style kept me constantly engaged in the reading and wanting more. She was blunt at times and also knew when it was necessary to be subtle. It is a fairly informal and easy-going style of writing.
It is said that we internalise information we gain from the world and then we build it into our sense of self. In other words, when we human are praised and shown love and respect we gain high self-esteem and we forget about it and it doesn’t bother us. However, when we are cussed and something bad is said about us, we tend to think about it not forgetting it and those who experience this would have a low self-esteem. It is also said that those with low self-esteem others can increase it.
A common theme among many scholars is modern poetry lacks poetic merit. The modern version of poetry is more often than not, found as music and more specifically as lyrics opposed to stanzas. “Traditional” poetry is known for its poetic merit; however, modern poetry, music, also has elements that can be found in traditional poetry. Poetic merit usually refers to the use of numerous poetic elements: figurative language, imagery, symbolism, allusions, etc. Though scholars may regard music as lacking in poetic merit, the song “Glory” by John Legend and Common proves otherwise through its use of symbolism, alliteration, and allusions to put forth its emotional lyrics that depict the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement.
This is shown extremely well in To a Louse when the lady walks into the room and he spots a little louse jumping around on her hat but he decides not to tell her because he knew if he did it would make her feel like less of a person. “Now hard ye there yere out o' sight” ( Line 19 from To a Louse) When he says this, he is talking to the louse hiding under the woman's hat because he didn't want anyone else to see it otherwise they might judge this woman who believed that she was perfect. Often times we as people judge the person next to us or say something that might hurt their feelings or be detrimental to someone's self esteem. We only care about ourselves and things that will help us individually. Frequently self esteem can lead to multiple different consequences one of them being stress. “Among the individual differences that can explain capacities and risk factors in terms of suffering from stress in the individual's self-esteem”(Dolan) I believe this is important to understand because people commonly don't understand that what they say can hurt people in ways that might not be imaginable by
Success and happiness is something everyone should want in their life. I’m sure most people are familiar with the songs “My wish” by Rascal Flatts and “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. Both of these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. “I Hope You Dance” and “My Wish” are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize.
In my timed writing Essay I tried my best to write five paragraphs. I also tried to focus on the topic, write clear examples, and quote the paragraphs. I was trying to finish the essay and not stress because it was a timed essay . I took my time to make it as clear as I can. In my timed essay I talk about how does Rayna Grande the author of the book “The Distance between Us” was impacted by having family relationship problems. Rayna Grande does not have good connection with her parents. Her mother chooses boyfriend over her children. In the book her mother said “I’m leaving now. If she isn’t going to welcome Rey into this house, then I won’t stay” Page (139). And also her father was an abusive father who always beat her up.
In the song Kitchen Sink by Twenty One Pilots it says, “I’m a kitchen sink, you don't know what that means, because a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me, okay friend?” High school students are often thinking that no one gets me. Or in other words, “a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me.” High school students all have their “kitchen sinks” and everyone’s kitchen sinks are different. They’re thinking what’s the point? No one understands. They have no motivation to keep going. One of the biggest problems plaguing high school students today is depression and
Today many people feel compelled to buy anything or everything with an expensive price tag. This includes Expensive designer clothes, latest gadgets, expensive vehicles and many other similar things. This form of consumerism has embedded itself in today’s society; where it's encouraged to invest in such materialistic possessions. Kanye West is an African-American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur, who articulates his struggle with consumerism and the struggle for those around him in his song “All Falls Down.” West, utilizes puns, rhyme, and juxtaposition to highlight the issues surrounding materialism that can be interpreted differently by different listeners such as African Americans and White Americans.
My song of choice is Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) by Marvin Gaye. The song was written about inflation, financial, and tax troubles by most people within the inner cities. The song was written in the early 1970’s but it is still true to see people struggle with the same problems. He references how money is made but before it’s seen it’s taken, this is referring to how a person’s pay check is mostly consumed by taxes.
If I stay, which is an outstanding novel written by Gayle Forman, was published in 2009 and is an emotionally gripping story. The most interesting part of the novel starts with Mia’s life after the accident. The readers also learn about her life before the tragedy with the help of plentiful flashbacks. She recalls her colorful and vibrant family members so vividly that they could easily step off the page and break the hearts of the readers. Furthermore, her remembrances also highlight her passion for music and romance with her boyfriend. Moreover, the readers will find the entire novel very interesting and inspiring and will also find the climax of the novel very satisfying. The story revolves around seventeen year old Mia, who finds herself dealing with the aftermath of a terrible car accident which killed her entire family. During the coma, Mia goes through an out-of-the-body experience and observes all her friends and family that gather at the hospital. The memory of Mia flashes before her and she debates about whether or not she should wake up and face the grief of losing her family or, if she should die. Before summarizing the story, it is pertinent that the main characters of the story should be discussed briefly.
“The Blacker the Berry” by Kendrick Lamar was released February 9th, 2015. This incredibly racially motivated song has created controversy throughout America because it tackles racism, hypocrisy, and hatred head on. Although Stephen Best argues that the past defines the present without question, and Hartman believes that many important African American stories have been silenced due to lack of evidence, Kendrick Lamar’s song “The Blacker the Berry” complicates and adds to their arguments by introducing a certain level of hypocrisy that forces the listener to understand a much more complicated moral position than is generally allowed, perhaps an inevitable one.
Briefly, the song Red, by Taylor Swift, is about her relationships in her love life. The song uses many colors of words that explains Swift’s feelings, but red symbolizes the strongest feeling of all, as it is embedded in the title. In the song, it follows a specific format, comparing the her action to him, to a similar feeling of another thing. This builds up the foundation of the song and it is easy to understand the meaning of the lyrics in terms of the literal meaning of how it sounds. The lyrics of Red is rich in simile as well in imagery, that describes her love for the guy while reminiscing those memories of him.
