FIU Personal Statement

Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in different professional societies such as the National Society of High School Scholars, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honors society), and Business Professionals of America. My involvement in these societies has made me knowledgeable in the logistics of how to run the society, and have taught me valuable skills such as leadership and collaboration. For logistics, I can help organize events such as fundraising activities or philanthropic events as I am currently on the social committee for Business Professionals of America, which is in charge of organizing social events for my chapter. As an elected member for the social committee, my chapter has shown faith in me for my leadership skills and collaboration skills. Overall, I feel like I can contribute a lot of my skills and knowledge to UIC honors college.

The National FFA Organization is an organization that I have been devoted to full heartedly, as a student, I grew hooked to every opportunity that FFA could offer and fell in love FFA goal, which has been consistent for every generation. Their goal is to develop leadership, personal growth, and future success, as an officer, I have promoted my responsibility to lead in my own unorthodox way of being gentle and graceless.

As of today I have had many involvements at FIU but without one special event I wouldn’t have been were I am today. Panther camp on August 17th through the 19th had been first involvement at FIU .It was a retreat-like experience that helped me find other ways of making friends that I had not known of. For example, having the availability to speak to whomever throughout the camp and not be shy or worried of judgment. I was able to leave knowing that my experience in Panther Camp about making friends could be around campus as well and in other places that I wish to create friends.

The transition from being a child, dependent upon parents for everything, to an independent adult is one of the most stressful times a person will endure. Legally speaking, 18 is the age when you become an adult but the number doesn’t describe the responsibilities and independence you must take on. College is seen as the “big step” into the real world and many people struggle in choosing where to make their transition. I would like to take my “big step” by attending Florida Atlantic University.

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at Cornell.

I chose my pharmacy program at OSU because of its well-known reputation in the field that has a long history of more than 100 years in preparing world-class educational opportunity, and educating pharmacists to serve with the best medical care in health communities, which is what my career focuses on. By attending OSU, students in pharmacy program will have a chance to work closely with exceptional faculty who care about interests and professional development, where the staff are willing to support and help their students with any issues, from classes to finances to personal. It is the open doors for any of it students interested in the career to advance along with the renowned Oregon State name. The curriculum at OSU is diverse. OSU offers a wide range of electives and countless opportunities for community outreach, leadership development, hands-on training, research and collaborations at Oregon State and Oregon Health & Science University to help achieve specific goals and gain

Coming from a small town on the east coast, I would have never expected to fall in love with such a large and diverse college like the University of Michigan. The upbeat atmosphere of Ann Arbor alone was enticing enough before I even saw the actual campus. Upon visiting, I quickly realized the University of Michigan was a place I would not mind spending my next couple of years. From the countless students all around to the wide variety of shops in town, Ann Arbor seemed like a lively and exciting place to spend my college experience. While walking through the campus, I was continuously amazed by the large intricate buildings surrounding me. Some of my favorites included the Law Library, the College of LSA and the Michigan Union. While I do not plan on attending it, the Ross School of Business was also an incredible

As a student at California Baptist University I will strive to be the best student I can be. I count on this university to prepare me for the real world and build towards my future and career. I hope CBU provides me with a lot of experience and hands on training, so that when I graduate I will be prepared. I’m determined to expand my knowledge and become a well rounded individual. I wish to broaden my learning skills overall and become a better student. Learning in a college environment will be different compared to high school, however I am looking forward to obtaining new information from the teachers at CBU.

During recruitment, one of the first questions that I asked in each house was how soon I could start getting involved. I was pleased to hear that new members can become involved very easily and quickly. And I have most definitely found this to be true. Within the first few weeks of joining my sorority, my email was flooded with opportunities to sign up and serve even as a new member. Already, I have signed up to be on some committees for next year and plan to become more involved with our philanthropy events very soon such as Golf on Grounds coming up in a few weeks. Currently, I looking at joining the Scholarship Committee and Wings on Wishes Committee for Chi Omega. I decided to pick these two because both are incredibly important to me. Scholarship has and will always be a top priority for me. Therefore, it is something that I believe should also be a priority of Chi Omega as I believe that academics should come before social events. Because this is difficult to do sometimes, I would love help others who, like me, sometimes struggle with this. Additionally, I hope to join the Wings for Wish Committee because of my passion and joy for serving others. In fact, taking part in philanthropy events was one of the main reasons why I joined a sorority. By joining the Wings for Wishes Committee, I would be able to do just this as well as do something with Make a Wish that is very close to my heart. Beyond next year, I will most definitely consider becoming a part of the board for the ISC and plan to find other leadership positions within YoungLife or InterVarsity next

I have grown up on my family farm outside of Albert Lea MN for my whole life. I have always taken a special interest in the beef cattle on our farm. I currently manage all of the herd records, and own part of the business. Throughout my SAE project through FFA, I started my own herd as well. I work extremely hard on our farm with the beef chores. I also help out with the crop farming on my farm by running tractors and watching bins. Because I have such an interest in cattle, I started working on a dairy farm two years ago. I currently milk 150 cows before, and after school everyday. I take a lot of time with my school studies as well. I maintain a 4.0 even while taking numerous college classes, and working. I chose NDSU because I feel like I was pretty well acquainted with the campus during my time in high school. Each summer, for FFA, my chapter, along with others from across the state, spent a week here competing in different agricultural competitions. Also, I talked with alumni from this nursing program, and they all said it was set up very well, and also put them on a track to getting a good job afterwards. When I came for a tour earlier this spring, I got to hear a speech from the Dean of nursing, and I just sort of felt like this was the right place. On a side note, I like being here because of the agricultural side of NDSU as well, even if I’m not necessarily going into a field pertaining to it. It seems more like home to me, when the person next to me, going into Vet Tech, rides horse as much as I did.

Touring Dallas Baptist University for the first time in November, I felt part of the culture. The location of DBU is essential in my life because it allows me to continue with my services that already established. The short commute from my house to DBU is convenient because allows me to save money not to live on campus and stay in close contact with my family. As well, this will also give me a chance to continue my community service with St. James Parish in Oak cliff and in West Dallas. Additionally, DBU is prominent because it is in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which allows for a wider range of jobs, and networking opportunities. I am in the National Guard and my monthly drills are in Lewisville; this will allow me to continue with my current unit.

Though I haven’t had the most involvement in extracurricular activities, I have been trying to turn that around. I joined FCCLA at the start of freshman year. FCCLA was an excellent experience to improve my leadership skills, as well as getting engaged with the school and community. This ranged from helping out with school activities, to collecting and organizing books to be donated to children, and crafting dog beds to donate to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I ended up not resigning up for FCCLA the following year due to my dealing with a difficult death in my family. However, since then I have gotten stronger and want to expand my community involvement. For that reason, I joined Student Council after the end of my junior year. As a representative, I help in school activities and decision-making. Though I’m a newer member, I’m excited to be a part of the Student Council. I have also recently joined the Science National Honor Society. I was able to join this club because of my accomplishments in science. I doubled up biology and chemistry my sophomore year, challenged myself by taking AP Chemistry my junior year, and am currently enrolled in the Pharmacology Technician program at Kirkwood as a senior. I am eager to see guest speakers and have already signed up for a couple of community service activities in this

I am interested in becoming a member of FLOC because I know I have the potential to succeed as a leader at University of Texas at Arlington. My skills as a speaker and a guide make leadership something I can utilize to inspire those who follow me.

This spring, I will be completing my first year of graduate school in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico. I graduated with a B.S. Degree in Environmental Science from UNM last year and was the first in my family to earn a college degree. I transferred to UNM in the fall of 2012 and have had the opportunity to interact with many professors, which I feel helped to influence my decision for graduate school.
