3.1 Introduction
This chapter discusses the methodology that was used in population sampling, techniques that were used to gather, process, and analyse data. In addition this chapter discusses the procedure that was used to carry out the research and for handling the findings.
3.2 Research design
This study adopted a descriptive and correlational research design which yielded both qualitative and quantitative data in order to interpret factors influencing performance of start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom. According to Cooper and Schindler (2003), a descriptive study is concerned with finding out what, where and how of a phenomenon. This method is concerned with the intense investigation of problem solving situations in which problems are relevant to the research problem. This design was used to understand underlying factors of each variable in being researched. A correlational research design aims at establishing relationships among variables. This design was adopted because the researcher seeks to explain the factors influencing the performance of start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom. The correlation design sought to determine the relationship between performance of a start-up business and the factors influencing them.
3.3 Target Population
The study Population included all start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom. A Target population in statistics refers to the specific population about which information is desired. According to Ngechu

The methodology was described with the data collection method. Quantitative and qualitative questionnaire which consisted of closed questions with a choice of fixed answers and free text to enhance qualitative data were sent out in the form of mailshot, followed by telephone call to non-respondents and it was repeated for more wider sample results to gain more evidence to reduce bias (Parahoo, 2006).
In this essay, I will appraise the sampling methods used in the following two case studies:
The type of data the author collected were questionnaires that were given to the participants of the study to obtain demographic data on each participant’s age, race, marital status, education, and their knowledge of the
This section will provide the rationale of the methods employed and highlight how the study will be performed. The study will examine the population with the sample size identified, data collection method and its analysis will be offered.
In regards to sampling, the number of participants and associated demographic information was detailed in the analysis. The specific techniques and methods used were provided to include, for example, thematic analysis to determine the four major themes as well as minor themes at both time periods. From the use of thematic analysis it can be inferred that the researched used a data analytic strategy to find patterns in the data and develop themes by developing “codes, words or phrases that serve as labels for sections of data” (Boyatzis, 1998, p.
This section of the paper seeks to explain the steps that were taken to gather the data, the participants and sampling that were employed, the location where the data was collected, the instruments used to gather the data, ethical considerations that were thought of and the limitations and delimitation of this research.
Chapter 3: Methodology ............................................................... page(s) 52-68 • Introduction • Approach to the Research • Research Methodology • Sample and Population • Statistical Analysis • Limitations and Assumptions
The given article uses a rather complex method in order to obtain crude data in the given counties regarding the demographics of the population and to locate the target specimens required to conduct the research. According to Quandt (2009), “the method involves
Describe the data collection method you are using and the frequency with which you collect the data for your research project. Include a description of your assessments and your guidelines for analyzing the collected data.
