Factors affecting Ethical Behavior

Ethics is the moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity. It is the moral values that a person believes in. The way that a person interacts with others. The golden rule of treating others how you would like to be treated. Having good ethics is a basis for having a successful business.

Ethics is defined as moral principles that administer a person’s behaviour. It is the basic perception and essential principle of decent human conduct. Issues concerning unethical approach are known as ethical issues.

Ethics are defined as rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad. Ethics is also an area of study that involves ideas about what is good and bad behavior and what is morally right or wrong. Ethics can vary from person to person. Ethics deals with making moral judgments about what is right or wrong, good or bad. Right and wrong are qualities or moral judgments we give to actions and conduct. Ethics provides us with a way to make moral choices when we are uncertain about what to do in a situation involving moral issues. In everyday life we make moral choices and judgements.

According to Merriam-Webster, ethics is defined as an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior. Some would argue that definition is rather vague. A more complete understanding of ethics would suggest that it is more than just an area of study but rather a way of life; moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior. If one is ethical and has good moral standards, it is usually seen in that person. Simply put, ethics could be considered the standards of behavior as to which society accepts.

I would like to define workplace ethics. According to wiseGeek (2003-2012), “workplace ethics are codes of conduct that influence the development of an ethical culture within the workplace (para.1). Workplace Ethic is where the organization ethics sits between the law and business operations. It inspires communication between employees and allows respect to each person within the organization, which promotes customer relationships that are based on honesty and integrity. Ethics is the process of doing right or wrong. It assists a person in the deciding if something is moral or immoral or if it is socially desirable (Dess, McNamara, & Eisner, 2016, p. 368). A person can get his or her ethics from religious beliefs, heritage, family, the community, education and friends. Organizational ethics is the values, attitudes and behavioral patterns defined by the organizations culture. Organizational ethics determine what is acceptable behavior.

People face ethical decisions; however, People working in business frequently face ethical decisions. “Ethics”, in general, is nothing but a principle of conduct. Ethics can also be defined as moral philosophy which is used to answer questions related to morality. According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary 2017, the term “ethics” is defined as the moral duty and obligation; the discipline of dealing with the good and bad as well as a set of moral principles such as righteousness. Everyone has a code of ethics that they go by. It sets a standard as far as who they are as a person. Just like employers have a code of ethics that they go by within their line of employment to the employees.

In the workplace as well as one’s personal life is essential for ethics to be maintained; often taking the right action is not always the most popular choice. It is important for maintaining an upstanding ethical code of conduct to be a productive individual as well as function as an employee in the workplace.

Ethical behavior is behavior that a person considers to be appropriate. A person’s moral principals are shaped from birth, and developed overtime throughout the person’s life. There are many factors that can influence what a person believes whats is right, or what is wrong. Some factors are a person’s family, religious beliefs, culture, and experiences. In business it is of great importance for an employee to understand how to act ethically to prevent a company from being sued, and receiving criticism from the public while bringing in profits for the company. When working in an organization, it is usually important to establish professional ethics while following consistent ethical principles. Professional ethics are personal and corporate standards of behavior that are set by businesses, associations, and organization. It creates an institution that reflects our own values and make us feel more confident about what is an acceptable behavior and what is not. This type of ethic could vary depending on the various types of situations, professions, and personal values. Many professionals that are trusted by the public like doctors, accountants, engineers and even an information technologist all have a Code of Ethics, which sets out expectations of the member’s behavior and how they operate internally and externally.

Ethics is defined as moral principles of conduct, which people usually agree with. Unlike in law there is no punishment involved in ethical values, if you don't follow according with the standards. There are many things that influence ethical behaviour. These can be personal reflection, religious beliefs, culture, experiences and family influences. If broadly speaking, ethics is the science or study of the morality of how humans act through the medium of natural reason.
