Failing to communicate is usually one of the major reasons for relationship issues. For example, a partner that fails to express romantic feelings for the other partner can results in less enjoyment of the relationship by the individual not receiving the romantic communication. It is reasonable to assume that only the partner that is not receiving the romantic communication would appreciate the relationship less, because the other partner is seemingly not affected by it. However, a relationship that lacks clear articulation of romantic feelings by one individual can actually result in less enjoyment for both partners (site). In fact, many reasonable explanations for less relationship appreciation by both partners due to a lack of affection exist. …show more content…
The perception of selfishness and being uninterested could cause the other partner to act in similar ways to the seemingly uninterested partner. In addition, when a partner fails to express romance to the other, “it becomes a challenge to take the other person’s perspective” (site). Obviously, failing to take the other partner’s perspective is likely to result in more arguments because one individual will not think of how the other could be affected. An increase in arguing is likely to irritate both partners greatly. Therefore, failing to communicate romance can make one partner seem uncaring which could lead to an increase in fighting; while resulting in a less satisfying relationship for each partner (site). However, this is far from the only way lacking romantic expression to a partner can degrade a
Lapses in communication are something everyone has had personal experience with. While reading, a previous relationship kept popping into my head. As Tannen wrote about some of the communication issues in her marriage, I couldn’t stop myself from drawing parallels between our former relationships. The
In the article “Close Relationships Sometimes Mask Poor Communication” reachers discuess how often times being close with someone, can have a negative impact on our communications skills with those we care for the most. According to the atricical often times we expect the person we are close to understand what we want or need without actually explaining it to them. The aritical supplied several examples in which I am personally guilty of. One example was when a wife made a statement about it getting hot in the room, she was impling that she wanted the air condiniter tempture adjusted, while her husband mistook the statement in a more sexual way.
Relationships, one of the key factors of the advancement of humanity. We all are surrounded by relationships, some may be easier to identify than others. But one relationship which stands out greater than the rest is the one between a married couple. These people are usually from completely different families and unite together to decide to spend the rest of their lives together. But sometimes the relationship does not work out. We can witness this in Sinclair Ross’s short story The Painted Door, in which Ann a farmer’s wife who has cheated on her husband John, which has brought the end of Johns life and ultimately the end of their relationship. It is arguable that the reason behind Ann cheating and bringing the end to their relationship arguably is isolation, neglection and lack of understanding, but what is the root cause of all these problems in their relationship? The answer is simple lack of communication. Thus, it is the lack of communication which has caused isolation, neglection and the lack of understanding of each other in the relationship, resulting in the failure of the relationship.
It is hard to see a person you love leave your life. It is just as hard to see that certain person go off track, or to know what they are capable of but instead of reaching that true capability, they make the same prior mistakes that caused them to run into the familiar, unavoidable obstacles. As horrible as these self-inflicted problems are, imagine this same person chooses to be part of a relationship where they are treated poorly. By treated poorly, I am not speaking about a typical argumentative relationship where both sides agree and make-up at the end of the argument. It is more like one of those, as people say, argumentative relationships where one side wins all fights, at all times, regardless of who is right and who is wrong. What if, as soon as this person realizes what they got themselves into, they hit another obstacle? But unlike any other obstacle, this one had a heartbeat, a pulse. Flash forward two years. This
What if he's your prince but you're not his Cinderella? What if's could make or break any relationship and it is quite sad that some people would really risk a relationship just to check if the grass is really greener on the other side. Some people would keep on playing with rocks when there is already a diamond right in front of them, but that is human nature we can't be contented.
Communication meets relation needs as well. Even though people need the physical need, they need to feel affection, and have relationships. But without communication, how would it be possible to maintain a relationship? Having that communication builds the relationship. As Floyd states, some scholars believe that people’s need for a relationship is so basic, they hardly get by by without them. These are how communication contributes to physical health and
Although many books have been written about communication and connection in relationships, there has been a book that addresses precisely this wonderful process as has James C. Petersen in his book: Why Don’t We Listen Better? And it is precisely the way in which the parts he divided the book that takes the reader to a better understanding of what the personal relationships connections through communications are concerned.
Communication between Individuals in a Relationship Communication is defined as the sharing or imparting of information from one person to another. In the short story The Sun, The Moon, The Stars by Junot Diaz we are privy to the relationship between a young man Yunior and his girlfriend Magda. The story starts out with Magda receiving a letter from a young woman Cassandra, stating explicit details about her sexual escapades with Yunior. Magda is heartbroken and confused, and Yunior tries to patch things up with Magda but to no avail.
Another myth about romantic is that a true soul mate ought to recognize what the partner is thinking or feeling without being told. Trust and disclosure go together in a romantic relationship progression. Specifically, the dialectical theory proposes that in the beginning of relationships, disclosure is vital as it is an indication of trust and affection in the relationship. The revelation of intimate details shows that a couple is going into a deeper relationship level (Click et al. 131). The myth that mind reading is required in love causes the assumption that partners ought not explain their rational assumptions or expectations since the other partner can read what they are thinking.
The second half of the relational model is called the “coming apart” stages, which consists of: differentiating, circumscribing, stagnating, avoiding, and lastly terminating. During the differentiating stage the relationship will start to be more individual, it will start to fade and the bond will be broken. After that comes the circumscribing stage during which the individuals won’t communicate because of the fear of starting an argument. The stage where relationships never improve or continue is called stagnating. After this point the individuals enter the avoiding stage, where the avoid any physical contact
2- While women are usually perceived as a more sensitive communicator in a given relationship, in Amato and Previti (2003), they rated “lack of communication” less far away (6.1%) than men (13%). How could this ironic situation be understood? (p. 346).
Theory explains why as relationships develop, communication moves from less intimate levels to more intimate, more personal levels.
In the following 17 summaries I describe a whole spectrum of factors which have most likely been controlling you and affecting the ways in which you react and behave in dating and relationships. Not being aware of the power these factors exert over you leads you to sabotage your attempts at developing a successful intimacy.
Lack of communication can have a domino effect of problems, starting off with partners being distant and
