It is important to study history so you can improve on your life and make better choices.
We use history every day to make choices whether we realize it or not. From something as simple as slowing down on a certain stretch of road because you know that the area is frequented by police to finding a solution to a problem by thinking back from past experiences and knowing what works and what doesn’t work. History provides context of who you are as a person. Studying your own family history is a great way to find out what part of the world the earliest members of your family are from.

Ready to colonize the island and retrieve as much gold and resources as the island would give. What he found was the native tribesmen were not as timid and weak as he had thought when he first left for Spain. A group of Taino revolted against the raping of their women and stealing of their property and killed all of the men he had left behind. Columbus and the new population of Europeans began building the new city of Isabella. Once Isabella was built, Columbus began heading to the center of the island to where the gold was. At this point the Europeans were beginning to dominate over the local tribesmen and enacted Indian slavery as well as a tribute in gold.

The Taino and the Europeans were no longer coexisting in any way or form. The Taino people were slaves, property of the explorers. The Taino now existed only to serve the needs of the Europeans. Columbus underestimated the amount of gold on the island and knowing that the resources that kept him in power were going away the Europeans moved on to find new islands and land where they could find more resources to send back to the Spanish
