This past Sunday, AMC graced us with the premier of Fear the Walking Dead, a spin-off of the amazing, The Walking Dead TV series. While I am not a huge fan of spin-offs in general, I must say that I was impressed.

The following may contain spoilers, so if you haven't had the chance to see the premier, I would highly recommend doing so before reading further.

So why should you watch Fear the Walking Dead? Because I said you should! And the fact that the first episode will have you hooked, well, if you are a Walking Dead fan that is.

So where does Fear the Walking Dead fit into The Walking Dead universe? Well that's easy, it takes place prior to the events of The Walking Dead, and on the west coast. More or less the beginning of zombie infection.

Instead of the completely depressing feel of TWD world, we are given a much more active, slightly less depressing feel in FTWD. Why do I say slightly less depressing? Well the fact that the first episode opens in an abandoned and run down church which is a haven for drug users, might be a good reason. Or, the fact that our opening character, Nick, a junkie, witnesses the girl he was with, eating someones face off. I could be wrong. Throughout the episode, we get to learn about Nick's somewhat dysfunctional family and hints of the zombie apocalypse starting to unfold. There are also hints that the drug that Nick has been using, is causing people to become zombies. Of course, nobody understands what is going on yet, not even Nick. Everything starts to be put in perspective when Nick's drug dealer, Calvin, attempts to kill him, only to get killed himself. After fleeing the location and then returning with his mother, Madison, and step father, Travis, Nick finds that Calvins body is missing, at least until they try to
