Probation officers who are infrequently alluded to as group supervision officers, regulate individuals who have been set on post trial supervision rather than sent to jail. They work to guarantee that the probationer isn't a risk to the group and to help in their recovery through continuous visits with the probationer. Post trial agents compose reports that detail every probationer's treatment design and their advance since being put on post trial supervision. Most work solely with either grown-ups or adolescents. A four year college education in social work, criminal equity, behavioral sciences, or a related field is typically required. Prerequisites differ by places. Most probation officers have to complete a bachelor’s program as well. I plan to continue through college with my criminal justice major and eventually begin to work on getting my degree.

Probation officers serve as supervisors and mentors for offenders who are trying to get back on their feet. When a convicted offender is released on probation, the officers have to help set up counseling appointments, educational programs, employment opportunities, and housing. The duty as a probation officer is to make sure an offender attends any counseling, job training, and work to get them involved in social activities needed with their rehabilitation. An interesting fact about a probation officer is that they spend most of their time doing paperwork. Although probation officers visit their clients, and do regular drug test on them, they spend most of the time doing paper work and documenting their client’s progress. You would have to have a big passion for helping others because the job can seem boring to people who do not have a desire to help people. The officers monitor offenders to prevent them from committing new crimes. This helps to try and make the world a better place.

Probation serves as the most frequently used sentence for those convicted. This is evident when you consider that the United States justice system oversees nearly 7 million people. Over half of those, a staggering 3.7 million people, are on probation with another 840,000 on parole (Rabuy, 2017). With those individuals representing the largest percentage of the American corrections system, it is important that we learn as much as possible about probation in order to improve the success of these programs. Probation involves a set of conditions that the probationer agrees to adhere to in exchange for remaining in the community. Typical conditions include a waiver of the offenders fourth amendment rights, maintaining employment or school
Before we explore the roles and responsibilities of a Juvenile Probation Officer we first must explore the juvenile justice system itself as well as to why it was set in place. In the United States, juveniles that fell into trouble with the law were automatically treated different from adults. Before the juvenile courts were established, children under the age of 7 were never really held responsible for their criminal acts. The law considered them unable to commit any criminal intent, however this could be disproved if the child knew that the act he or she was committing was a crime or that it would cause harm to another

The number of conditions that a judge can impose upon a person on probation is amazing and there are some that make some of us wonder how they can actually make a person live a life that is not theirs. There are many conditions of probation that a judge or a probation officer can impose upon the probationer. Some of the conditions that can be imposed include: supporting his dependents and meeting any other family needs, paying a fine or making restitution to the victim of the crime that was committed, keeping a job if they have a suitable one and if not training for or getting one that is suitable.
Juvenile probation officers also handle caseloads as well as the coordination of sentences carried out by the juvenile offender. Lastly, the probation officer’s primary role is to supervise the charges brought forward by the judge and to ensure that the juvenile offender is complying with the terms of probation. Probation officers may have the offender seek employment (if applicable); attend various forms of counseling/rehabilitative meetings, random drug testing and making
Topic: Ethical dilemmas of a probation officer Thesis: Due to the need of personal interaction with the offender, probation officers often violate the code of ethics. A probation officer represents the court and has an obligation to obey all the laws. In Units 1-4 of this class, we discussed the supervision of individuals on probation and parole, as well as, the roles of probation and parole officers. Probation is a form of sentencing for a criminal offense (Alarid & Del Carmen, 2012). Probation mandates the convicted individual to remain in the community under red in lieu of serving time in jail or prison (Alarid & Del Carmen, 2012). Probationers are required to adhere to the conditions outlined in the probation (Alarid & Del Carmen, 2012). Parole is the release of an inmate back to the community under supervision, after he or she has completed a portion of his or her prison sentence (Alarid & Del Carmen, 2012).
The explanation of the roles of probation and parole officers were also informative to me as a reader. The reason I found it informative was because I had never thought of the probation officers’ job duties and roles are quite as varied as they actually are. Sometimes they act as dual roles, meaning parole and probation officer but this is not the case in all jurisdictions. Probation officers job duties are varied and demanding upon the person who dares to take on
When working in Law enforcement as a police officer, a probation officer, and or a correctional officer, no matter the position of the criminal justice branch each still has to communicate down the branches of criminal justice. Together, these branches need to agree in order for this organization to work as though it is a well-oiled machine. Working in partnership with each other has to work steadily to make sure we are in agreement through every process. Law enforcement is a beginning phase of the system if it were corrupted evidence would be falsified, police brutality would be overlooked, and innocent individuals would receive charges for a crime they didn’t commit. The case of the individual would receive a harder sentence from a judge
In addition to the challenges probation and parole officers experience when supervising offenders in the community. Probationers and parolees are liable to an assortment of conditions, including reporting regularly to their supervising officers, finding and maintaining
