Going to the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery at 1470 Highland Avenue, Melbourne really illustrates the similar motivation behind people’s paintings. The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery displays the works of different local Florida painters and sculptors. The paintings at the gallery consisted of different types of paints such as watercolors, acrylic, and oil. There were also different types of painting forms and styles ranging from regular landscapes to abstract painting. Next to every area of the works by different artists was a biography and synopsis written by the particular artist. In each of the artist’s biographies they would talk about their career, personal life, and what their own motivation is behind their paintings. What was interesting is that
When you look at art, you wouldn’t think that the artist actually put so much thought and emotion into their paintings. Last week, as I viewed some of the paintings in the Appleton Museum I just really wondered what some of the painters were trying to get across with their paintings or at least what they were thinking of as they painted onto the canvas. Some of the painting on the wall were quite interesting and intricate while other were pretty simple and straight forward. Each of painting have something that make them different and unique. Two paintings that caught my attention were: Wanted Poster #5 by Charles White (1969) and The Judgement of Solomon by Joseph Van Severdonck. Both these painting seemed to have something quite interesting.
The authors of "5th Avenue, Uptown" and "Key West" were using an effective communication. I felt that both authors were using different tones while making understand their point to the reader. The author of "5th Avenue, Uptown" was using more of a hard tone, using metaphors to make the reader understand his feeling of disgust about how much his neighborhood was changing. When Baldwin says, “We find ourselves on wide, filthy, hostile Fifth Avenue, facing that project which hangs over the avenue like a monument to the folly, and the cowardice, of good intentions” makes me think how disappointed he is from his neighborhood and how he rejects “the help” from the government. Kaida uses a different tone. It sounds more as acceptance of everything
Since the beginning of time, artists have labored extensively to find innovative ways to convey sentiment, passion, and feeling. Telling stories and trying to unlock the minds of people through different avenues of artistic labors. Art touches and affects people in unique ways; it can have special or unusual meaning on the person depending on how one views it. Artists’ rendering of their art is interpreted in numerous ways by others who view it unless it is explained by the artist on its meaning giving a clear example of what they are portraying. Two people looking at the same painting, sculpture, portrait, or photo may come to different views on the arts meaning even though they are looking
I was required to go visit at Dallas Art Museum from Art Appreciation class. I went to the Dallas Art Museum and look through the art gallery. I was assigned to identify and write about six different function of art. The six function of art was maintained in the Patrick Frank book Artforms. The six function of art were Art of Delight, Art of Worship and Ritual, Art of commemoration, Art of commentary, Art of persuasion, and Art of Self-Expression. I was told by professor to write a four-page paper base of the six function of art that I was in museum. In the museum there was variety of art from different cultures and country. The histories of art were inside Dallas Museum of Art, many artist artworks were presented and many Gods sculptures and painting were displayed. There were many
Norman Rockwell once said, “The secret to so many artists living so long is that every painting is a new adventure. So you see, they’re always looking ahead to something new and exciting. The secret is not to look back.” Norman Rockwell expressed these thirty-six words. Norman went all over the world painting and illustrating many of the images he saw. He said when he was about 60 “Traveling and going all over, kept me young” (AZ Quotes). He never looked back and always went forward. Since he could pick up and grasp a brush, Norman Rockwell, an American illustrator, made paintings come alive
Many artist when writing, drawing, sculpting or whichever art he or she is practicing, has a purpose and meaning behind the artwork. Whether the art is just to simply inspire other artist to take up an art, or to send an unseen message to the people of society. Artist such as NF who wrote the song “Remember This” also had a message behind his artwork. His message was to inform others that not everyone is who they seem to be. He informs listeners that people will betray others and that staying true to oneself is the most important thing.
Some seek for peace, some are passionate about their arts and wanted to share with the world, and some hope that their art will change the society.
However, our trip did not last countless hours as I looked over 30 paintings in about twenty five minutes. This was not due to my lack of interest, but more to my novice mindset towards art. Art is similar to most skill activities in that people that are active in said activity can better understand and articulate the small actions that lead to a great piece of art, a great football play, or a great movie. I am embarrassed to say that I did not pay close enough attention to the intricacies of my dad's art, but I accepted to write these articles in hopes I could learn more about my dad's favorite past time.
I had the opportunity to visit the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). It is placed in a wonderful scenario called the City Park, in which the three-story building is surrounded by oak trees and artificial lakes. At the desk, a lady welcomed you in a large hall dominated by a central stair. On each side of the hall, there are rooms with European paintings, in particular Dutch, Flemish, and Italian; in front, instead, there is a large room with photographs. As I finish my visit of the first floor and I moved up towards the second, right in front of me I see a bronze statue by Rodin, who I knew for his famous The Thinker. At the second floor, I can admire American, Spanish, and French painters; in particular, I recognize names such as Picasso,
The New York Metropolitan Museum offers a vast variety of virtual tours which includes artistic exhibits from historic Europe. In addition to the multitude of current exhibits, the museum offers to the public for free, access to previous exhibits. The exhibit chosen for the tour, “Drawings and Prints: Selections from the Permanent Collection”, was presented from April 12 through July 18, 2016. The collection highlights not only American but also European prints, drawings, and books containing illustrations. Most of the art was available for viewing, and were displayed in the Robert Wood Johnson Jr. Gallery, ranging from the Renaissance to the present. While some pieces were not on view during the exhibit,
“Painting today is pure intuition and luck and taking advantage of what happens when you splash the stuff down. “- Francis Bacon. However when I learnt more about history of art and the way each movement and happenings in the world inspired artist to make new works, I was able to see much more than just a canvas with random paints and sketches. The interesting part about this concept is that each piece of art could be interpreted in many different ways. In contemporary art there isn’t right and wrong, each of us view and find different meanings and connections with artworks.
Artists often paint as a way to make money on the side or as an enjoyable activity on a rainy day. However, artists like Kendra Baird use it for a much more powerful purpose. Baird states, ¨Each painting has a personal meaning to me. Sometimes it's obvious; sometimes it's buried within what simple elements represent to me. My subjects can be as simple as a few birds perched on a tree branch, or as complex as a woman losing her identity in the struggles of life.¨ Many of us, throughout our lives, blindly follow those in front of us--never stopping to think about those around or behind us, or experiences that have led us to the point in our lives where we stand now. This painting entitled, “Offering Truth”, by Kendra Baird illustrates the feeling
“The purpose of art is to bring people into presence” Jim Carrey .The particular artist that I chose is an artist in many different realms though he is an accomplished actor he also is a painter and has painted for most of his life it was not until recently that his art work has been showcased. That artist that I am talking about is Jim Carrey. I feel that his artwork shows emotional depth has an interesting color schemes and really lets us go into his mind through the use of his art.
The piece of art that I chose is called Seascape created by Elizabeth Meyer. She became a resident of the Monterey Peninsula which made her passionate to paint, due to the beautiful scenery she was surrounded by everyday. She has many peaceful and majestic paintings that make you feel so relaxed. She said that she has taught herself how to paint and that she paints straight from her heart. Her artwork is abled to be viewed in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel. When I viewed the art gallery I saw many fascinating pieces of artwork that all contained the compositional elements. The gallery was in a small house made of wood. In the gallery there were a variety of different paintings, but what made Elizabeth Meyer’s stand out was that all of her artwork was framed in a beautiful and eye catching shimmering gold frame. The way her art was displayed made me drawn to her art individual. All of her art made me feel a sense of peace and ease. Elizabeth Meyers art was altogether astonishing. While all her artwork was unique and original, her work that stood out to me the most was her painting “Seascape”.
The history of art dates back to ancient times. Artwork can be, and was, found around the world. What makes art interesting is that it can be created in any way, shape or form with any materials. It seems that the artwork can also tell us a lot about the artist. Art seems to be simply, a direct, visual reflection of the artist’s life. Therefore, one can assume that an artist’s life experiences and beliefs directly influence their art. If we look at examples from different periods of art we will be able to see the connection between the artist and the art.
