So, I’ve decided to start watching films by themes every week. Forcing myself not only to put a break to the insane amount of TV shows I have been watching (I’m back on the TV binge again, I don’t know how it happens, but I always go back to it) but to also analyse patterns within the film industry. First week. Gyllenhaal week, Jake Gyllenhaal to be precise. He has always had really intriguing choices/ or been given interesting characters, trying not to be pinpointed by a single form of filmmaking. But, there are always patterns, and I can’t remember during this week any film that he didn’t have any love interest. Which comes to questions, that he always is an object of romantic desire, even when he is playing a creepy man recording late night …show more content…
the references to spiders as women come from dreamlike states. the tram lines that surround the city resembling webs in the sky, the Louise bourgeois Maman spider-like controlling the city. the film has many interpretations and many different subjects being dealt with, it being the idea of individual and maybe the lack of it in this society or the fear of the understanding of the female. it is open for interpretation. although I might say that the spiders aren’t referenced in the book. so… there’s that. it has a yellow tone, a desaturation that can characterise the lack of individuality of the being in a society like that. here’s the rundown of films I watched that week, and a bit of a review to them lol not really. (some were rewatched) (give a star system) Donnie Darko (overrated tbh) Zodiac ( a true icon ) Demolition ( can’t truly remember what happened there, but Naomi watts was in it, I think?) Jarhead (incredibly fascinating, plus the fact that the editing god, Walter Murch edited this film and in the film, they were watching apocalypse now, another film edited by him, was true meta moment The day after tomorrow ( classic !!! this film was 2012 before 2012 was 2012 ) Love and other drugs ( that was strange ) Enemy ( !!! AAAAAAAAAAAA
What were Edwin S. Porter's significant contributions to the development of early narrative film? In what sense did Porter build upon the innovations of contemporaneous filmmakers, and for what purposes?
“Insidious” is a 2010 horror movie centralizing around the lives of protagonists Renai (Rose Byrne) and her husband Josh (Patrick Wilson). The movie mainly focuses on the supernatural activity going on within the house, and it is later revealed that the cause of the hauntings is due to demons attempting to take over the body of their unconscious son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins).
The movie I chose was Sling blade. I chose this movie partly because of the story line, and partly because of the langauge. It's a story about a guy named Karl Childers (the main character), a mentally challanged fellow who has been in a mental institution since he was a child of 12 years old for the murder of his mother and her lover. This movie starts at the mental institution where Karl has lived for the past 20 years.
The three movies I decided to watch were Leave It on the Floor, New Muslim Cool, and Terrors of Tiny Town. Leave It on the Floor is a musical about a young man named Brad who gets kicked out of his home and finds refuge in the drag community. New Muslim Cool is a documentary about a man who converts to Islam and turns his life around. He once was a drug dealer and now is a man who helps others and spreads the word of Islam. Terrors of Tiny Town is a musical and a Western with a cast made up entirely of dwarfs. The film is about a feud between two families. I chose to write my film review about Leave It on the Floor because it was the most interesting and entertaining to me. It is one of those movies that you cannot stop thinking about after you watch it. We talked a lot about the LGBTQ community in another class I am taking this semester so I thought this movie was a good choice for me to dive deeper into. Paris is Burning came up a lot in our discussion of this topic and it was great to finally watch it. The documentary is incredibly enlightening with regards to the struggles of young adults who identify as LGBTQ.

Film History: An Introduction. Third ed. Boston: McGraw-Hill, 2009.
The movie I chose was, The War Of the Roses, it's a classic movie that features Danny DeVito and he's also
Director Mike Nichols, use very advanced and unique techniques to present, support and underline the main message of the movie.
The movie that I choose for my final discussion post is War Horse. It is an American-British war drama film released in 2011. (Wikipedia) It takes before and during World War I and is told from Joey’s, the horse and main protagonist’s, point of view. The director of the movie, and co-producer, was Steven Spielberg.
The movie I chose to watch is Courageous. The precipitating event in this movie is the car accident that takes the life of Emily Mitchell. Her father, Adam Mitchell, and the rest of her family are traumatized by the sudden death of their 9 year old daughter/sister. In thinking about information that would be gained in the first contact with Adam Mitchell, one thing that stands out about his previous state of mind/functioning is that he was somewhat uninvolved with his children, taking them for granted. This fact can also be a trigger for how he processes this event, causing a crisis for him as he realized his
I want to tell you about the last film watched it’s name” Running time” , I saw it last week with my family.
untouchable and we were all doomed to a lifetime of late fees and limited movie
The movie in which I chose to do my movie analysis on was not one from the list provided. However, it is one of my all-time favorite movies The Band of Brothers a miniseries by HBO. I chose to do this one over the other because not only is it very entertaining and keeps you want to watch more, just to see what happens to everyone invaded but also because of the history be hide the story. The fact that they used real life experiences to help make the film just made it that much better. I watch The Band of Brothers at least a few times a year so I was happy to do this assignment.
For the second video that I’m going to talk about is a film called safe which directed by todd Haynes. The film was release on the june 30, 1995 and was voted as the best film of the 1990s in the 1999. This film starring three main actors Julianne Moore, Peter Friedman and Xander Berkeley. Julianne moore play the role of Carol White who is a homemaker. Carol White is a wealthy L.A. housewife, she spends her days just like every normal people would do. She does aerobics, gardening, taking clothes to the dry cleaners, chatting with friends, and decorating her luxurious house. Despite of the luxuries life that she had, she also facing some difficulties with her family and friends. Her friendship with her friend are example polite and nice but somehow it is more like a distant kind of friendship. Not only that, her son for example is actually not her real son but her
