The three movies I decided to watch were Leave It on the Floor, New Muslim Cool, and Terrors of Tiny Town. Leave It on the Floor is a musical about a young man named Brad who gets kicked out of his home and finds refuge in the drag community. New Muslim Cool is a documentary about a man who converts to Islam and turns his life around. He once was a drug dealer and now is a man who helps others and spreads the word of Islam. Terrors of Tiny Town is a musical and a Western with a cast made up entirely of dwarfs. The film is about a feud between two families. I chose to write my film review about Leave It on the Floor because it was the most interesting and entertaining to me. It is one of those movies that you cannot stop thinking about after you watch it. We talked a lot about the LGBTQ community in another class I am taking this semester so I thought this movie was a good choice for me to dive deeper into. Paris is Burning came up a lot in our discussion of this topic and it was great to finally watch it. The documentary is incredibly enlightening with regards to the struggles of young adults who identify as LGBTQ. There are many examples of performance in the contact zone in Leave It on the Floor. One dramatic situation in the film was the opening scene. In this scene, Brad, the protagonist of the musical, is kicked out of his home by his mother after she catches him watching homosexual pornography and discovers that he is gay. She says “I won’t have none of this gay sh*t
The movie I chose was Easy A because there are many psychological concepts this movie that relate to real-life events and it covers many theories we learned about in this class. Easy A was released in 2010 and directed by Will Gluck. It’s about a teenage girl named Olive who accidentally admits to her friend Rhi that she was having sexual relations with boys. She felt pressured into lying since her friend had already engaged in sexual acts with her boyfriend. A rumor then spread and many people in the school then ignored Olive because they thought what she did was an immoral act, but the guys started giving her more attention. I feel that this applies to many
My movie is Mean Girls. I have probably watched this movie more times than I would like to admit. This is a great movies because any high school girl can relate to it. Mean Girls is about a teenaged girl names Cady that movies from Africa after being homeschooled for all theses years, and she goes to a public school and eventually ends up part of “the plastics” and completely changes from who she was. (Waters 2004) This movie really hits close to home being a teenage girl at one point. Mean girls has a lot to do with adolescence development such as: peer pressure, self-esteem, moral identity and observational learning.
2. I picked this film because of the strong message it is meant to put across, considering that Lee wanted the world to acknowledge that while society had experienced significant progress up to the turn of the century, people still had a long way to go in order for the world to be a morally acceptable place. Reading more information about the girls killed during the 1963 Baptist Church bombing really shocked me and made me want to discuss this film.
For my movie analysis, I chose the 1984 satirical documentary, This Is Spinal Tap. The movie is written to be viewed as if it were a real documentary about a heavy metal band going through the stages of being on top to hitting rock bottom, only to come back in the end. The movie pokes fun and real rock documentaries, by showing you that rock stars are, still in the end, people too.
Everyone has own right to determine their life direction. We might have done something wrong during the step, or experience some hardships; but the new hope is always there. The person, Hamza Perez in the documentary New Muslim Cool chooses his own life from a gangbanger to Moslem. He describes his life at age 21 “dies” and “rebirth” after he met his new religion, Islam. The film New Muslim Cool is main talking about his daily life and his works on spreading Islamic spirit to people in the jail and street. He changed his name Jason to his Muslim name, Hamza. The family didn’t really know what Muslim is and had argument before, but they support his conversion eventually because this new religion made him stay away from drug and smoke. However, he struggled with many problems in the reality that he had to handle as a Muslim.
The movie I choose to review was Jaws, which is one of my favorites and a timeless classic. A traditional story about man against beast takes place on an island that depends on its summer tourist business. When the summer season in threatened by a series of shark attacks three men are sent out to track down a great white shark.
These actors were given great reviews about how well they displaced not only their feelings but their actions. Some people said that the movie reminded them of their own childhood past of when they use to be a teen and act that way. For example, one lady said it reminded her of her coming of age from a child to a women. This review can show that this movie had a great impact on some people and their memories of their
The movie was like a culture shock for me because I have Bi friends and it doesn’t bother me because I tell them I’m straight and ask them not to hit on me. We have boundaries and we have no issues on the matter even though I am a Christian and they may not be. I try not to judge people because first off it’s not my job and second I am different and I’m pretty sure I’m judged for it. Thank you for showing that movie it reminded me that all people deserve a chance no matter who they are or who they
First movie is was stupid and I didn’t like it there was too much screaming. The people were acting dumb in the story over something that was little. I hate how people in the story were yelling at the girls the whole time because the girls were dancing with the devil. The thing that made me mad the most out of the whole movie was all the little white girls blamed it on the black girl because she was different. The men in the story treat the women like they are babies and towards the end they hang people that did something that isn’t even that badly.
Lorene (mother) allows Jerry to have his girlfriend Haliyah at the home. Lorene allows them to be in the home alone while she goes to the club. Lorene goes to the club every weekend, and leave all of the children in the home alone. Haliyah is pregnant by Jerry and she is due to birth the baby in September. Haliyah’s unknown mother is aware of Haliyah’s pregnancy and she is mad about it. Haliyah’s mother knows Haliyah goes to Jerry’s home. Haliyah has spent the night at Jerry’s home before, but Haliyah’s mother doesn’t know she has spent the night. Jerry has beat Haliyah up before, and he has given her black eyes. Haliyah’s mother knows Jerry has beat Haliyah up before, and she got mad and pressed charges on Jerry. Haliyah’s mother is believed
“Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think”, is a documentary that provides an explanation on Islam which the population of them is growing in the United States. The purpose of existence for Muslims is to praise God; Muslims got more of an insight by Muhammad who is the last prophet. The presentation had an opinion poll of the stereotype that they had lived especially after 9/11 has occur which is not just. Islam is a very religious religion, they pray at least 5 times a day; they have five pillars. There religious practices are to remember God through out the whole day, there prayers are physical and spiritual. Muslims do branch out into two: the two denominations are Sunni and Shia. Sunni takes part of most Muslim religion. Islam
Moreover his last name being Sovereign is representative of his motivations and ideological beliefs, it’s to show he is upper class, a man concerned with money and driven by power. LorAnne Yaun believes that films can “influence” an audience (Yaun, 2016, P.g.1), that it can essentially “serve as your sources of information and knowledge” (Yaun, 2016, P.g.1). This as a Muslim to me was a major driving force behind why I felt it a strong idea conceptually to explore the notion of a Muslim becoming a superhero, as I wanted to attempt to transform the mainstream representation of Muslims today.
After I am done viewing these films numerous times, I would take time to contemplate what I wanted to say about this film. I would write down bullet points about what I wanted to say for my review. I would then take these bullet points and attempt to write a rough draft of a cohesive review. I would read over the draft, and skim past the film to see if there’s anything I missed. I would then
The first movie I will be talking about is Matewan. Matewan is a movie about the mines in Mingo County, WV. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I would end up liking the video or not. The further it got into the movie, I really enjoyed it. I loved learning about what the “miner’s 3life” was like. It showed what they went through as they worked in the mines and it
An animated Disney movie called "Mulan," was directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook in 1998. The moral of the story is that women can be just the same as men can. I support the general meaning of the movie. I believe men that and women should be treated equally and that women should not be seen as weak or frail. Women are more than just wives or slaves and can-do jobs that have traditionally been set-aside for men. They can be successful and bring honor to their families in other ways.
